I am a newbie having just found Dr. Lori, but I planned to watch everything that she has produced! Still, bottom line about something’s worth is what one can get for it which entails location, customer, interest, economy, etc.
Don, the underlying subtext of your comment is that you have to concede and take a low amount when you sell something... when you say that it's "worth what one can get for it".. and that's just not true. If you know the market, you'll know what it's worth and where to sell it for top dollar. If you don't put in the work to learn the market and do the marketing to a broad audience, you won't get much for it. That's not what I teach people to do. Look at these comments, read the comments from so many who are saying how this channel is increasing their income, "raising my selling game", selling better than I have in years, learning so much, etc. Sorry to brag but this is a cop out. Of course, many factors matter but in the long run when I hear this kind of statement, it means the seller doesn't want to put in the hard work. And reselling art, antiques and collectibles is hard work... I can help. Thanks, Don.

I think you are wonderful. I have a collection of rhinestone clasps that used to be used on the corners of collars on dresess. Some are quite beautful. I also have a collection of Lladro statues and other I think valuable japaneses dolls and other things that belonged to my sister who passed away. I also have some eisenburg rhin estone pieces. I have no idea how to get these things evaluated. I am a senior citizen who does not know how to use Vroom. Any suggestions. Where do you go to get top dollar for your costume jewelry
People use my online appraisal reports to help them sell. The reports include a location where a similar piece sold and for how much. This helps answer your question for a specific item. One person used my report to help them sell a plate for over $1,000. They bought the plate at a yard sale for $1.

Dr. Lori, I have a large collection of a veteran that was in the military in wwll... Tons of honorary medals 🏅.. cuff links and pins from Jimmy Carter also letters from j. Edgar hoover when he was head of FBI... lots of stuff...he was a dentist in the war... I have all his paperwork from the military his yearbook and also his hat...there are lots of coins as well. Your appraisals seem very high to me, where are you selling to get the prices your quoting?
My appraisals are based on a market analysis where I have seen similar pieces actually sell for that amount. You need to know the entire market, not just one site or location. My online appraisal reports include that sales location. Had a client use my report to sell a plate for over $1,000. They bought it at a yard sale for $1.
@@DrLoriV Thank you, I appreciate you getting back to me. I guess the issue I'm having is I'm selling similar items to what you appraised in this video on eBay and getting people who are reluctant to pay 10% of your appraisal estimate. The Sterling bracelet with synthetic sapphire would never sell anywhere close to $400 on eBay, the guy probably bought it from eBay and he paid $42, and even that seems like an outlier to me, I think you'd probably get between $25 and $35 realistically. You appraised it for $400, a factor of 10 plus over my guesstimate. I don't see how the distribution of pricing could be that far off....what am I missing?
