Your Dad's a Legend Wes, certainly in British boxing terms. So unsung and under appreciated back when he was World champion at this time prior to the Hearns fight, but not by true British boxing fans, who recognised his great achievements somewhat against the odds, always rooted for him after the Blanchard fight. Hope he is well.
Dennis’ story after this fight, him showing up at the Kronk, asking to come under Steward’s tutelage, eventually gaining the respect of his Kronk peers, the last man standing, and his journey to regaining the WBC crown, is surely one of the greatest stories in British boxing history. I ve never understood why Dennis’ story hasn’t been made into a film , surely as compelling as Rocky , and why he was never embraced by the British boxing public. I always tell my kids about 4 great British boxers from when I was a kid, and the lessons for life- Honeyghan (fearlessly taking Curry the invincible apart), Benn (where to start) Johnny Owen (the great Welsh boy legend who went all the way to LA to fight for a world title and never came back) and Andries. For me, the greatest and most inspirational come back story was that of Dennis.
@@MrLukedangerbecause they were true working class Englishmen. Black, white doesn't matter its about character. Eubank was quite unpopular at the time. But he earned his respect and is now highly regarded

One of the best and most underrated trilogies in boxing that. Both men as tough as, neither a skillful boxer but they just traded heavy duty power shots.
Dennis was a bonafide warrior. One of the hardest man to ever step into a square ring anywhere on earth, a true throw back. If I could have a fraction of Andries’ heart I should be fine.
That has to be one of the most iconic intro themes ever, brings back so many memories when every fighting legend was free to watch!! Hearns was sheer class with a lovely technique but my god Dennis was a tough man with a granite jaw. I'm astonished Tommy never broke his hand on it!!
I had that nostalgic tingle too when i heard the opening music.it took me back to my childhood, before bills, mortgages and life's stresses.watching these fights free to air during the fabulous four's time was the best period in boxing.

SPIDERM0OSE don’t be such a knob head, I’ve spent a fortune these past twenty five years or so on PPV boxing and Sky Sports and you know what, it’s no better than when it was free to air. Dennis Andries is one of the bravest men I have ever seen in a boxing ring. He walked into the Kronk gym soon after this beating, and told Emanuel Steward he wanted to learn how to become a World Champion again. I take my hat off to him.
If there was a proposed rematch Hearns's trainer would be saying, "he's all wrong for us baby, I saw you beat that man like I've never seen a man get beat before, and he just kept coming for you...". "We don't need that kind of man in our life's". "He's all wrong for us baby".
I watched this fight back in the day. I loved watching Dennis fight, he never took a backward step, no matter how hurt he was. He threw punches even when he was falling to the canvas. One of the great not only of British boxing but in world boxing. A true true fighter.
Andres threw wild shots…but if they connected… and Thomas for all his great skill and power, and he was one of the four greats of the era.l, had a suspect chin. So I can see Andries camp thinking they had a great chance to shock the world.

I love this era of boxing! It's not the same now. Back then great champs fought for pride , to prove they are the best. No Mayweather picking ur fights. Also back then it was more entertaining as fighters would engage the other fighter. Hagler vs Hearns will always be my favorite, 2 champs just going toe to toe , putting it all on the line. No running, no pitter patter punches at the end of the round to try to steal rounds. If we had this kind of fights MMA wouldn't have overtaken boxing!
What most people do not know is Dennis went to Daneford school in Bethnal Green and this school for some strange reason produced some of th greats of British boxing. John H Stracey, John L Gardner, Michael Watson and Francis Ampofo went there so did Lenny Mclean and the Kray Twins. I went there and also ended up boxing in the pros.
That stoppage was a joke, Hearns gets put down late in the fight and no count, 10 seconds later, Andries gets pushed over, there a count and then the ref stops the fight. Ridiculous.
Andries had the heart of a lion, he went down some 6 times and Tommy couldn't Knock him out. I felt sorry for Andries he never got the praise the British media should have given him. He was a great Boxer . And Tommy had to go up from light middle to light heavy ,that's quite a jump when it comes to weight.
What I really love about Andries is that he came back. He took himself off to the Kronk reinvented himself under Manny Stewart and came back more skilled. That took massive character and it is hard to imagine one of these millionaire novice boxers doing it today.
@@terrynicholson9273 That's right I remember reading about Dennis going to join the Kronk and Tommy Hearns was with Kronk and Manny Stuart . Tremendous heart from Dennis Andries, what a warrior. Unfortunately he wasn't really landing anything on Hearns, those massive overhand rights were wasting his energy, but he was never one to hold back.
