  • Step-by-step installation of a BakFlip MX4 tonneau on a 2014 Toyota Tundra. I installed the BakFlip deck rails with adapters to accommodate the OEM accessory rails. The matte black, trifold aluminum cover holds up to 400 pounds. Okay, that's impressive but I don't plan on hosting any disco marathons on top of the cover or stacking a bunch of stuff a la Beverly Hillbillies. I'm more concerned about how it holds up in rain...a bunch of Florida apocalyptic rain. A review follows.

This was by far the best instruction video on installing the tonneau cover. All the parts lined up with the ones that came with our cover. Great job!

If you want to make it more waterproof, lay a bead of black RTV down under the rails on both sides before installing. This will keep anything out of the sides. The seal isn't the greatest as the plastic cap on the bed is not even - there are some contours that allow water in if you don't do this. Also, there are a few areas at the front where you can also put some RTV and keep the water out of the front. The rear will drip if you don't have a little rake in your vehicle, or if you're parked on an angle. Not much to do about that. I also add some weather strip around the tailgate. Few things that will really keep stuff dry for the most part.

Good suggestions. Thanks! I thought about running some RTV. May have to add that to the project list. In the meantime, I've been putting down an old, deflated air mattress on the bed if I'm hauling stuff I really want to keep dry like firearms and luggage. (I can't throw much stuff away, including punctured air mattresses.) It keeps the guns and stuff from shifting around too. A little bit of water has gotten under the liner when it rains. Nothing that worries me. Looks a little wonkey, but it works.

Just bought it on Amazon for my 2021 Tundra Limited. I live in Boynton Beach and I’m a UA-camr. 😎
    Your video was great!

Thanks Tim! Love your videos! I'm now writing for Cummins and doing freelance on the side. Two years later and I'm still really happy with the MX4. Wouldn't have a pickup without one.

Nice review and install tips! I installed mine one year ago. Was cleaning up my garage and found the 3 seals I never installed that serve as a barrier for tonneau when opened all the way. Opened this video to see where they go. Still happy with my cover if anyone out there is on the fence!

Glad you found those seals! Impressive cover for sure. You can lock stuff up in the bed and not have to worry about theft.

Good video! My kit did not include the brackets to drop the bed rails (yes it was supposed to)…Realtruck acts like they don’t exist!

Sorry for the late response. Been dealing with Covid. Yes, the brackets and everything else required for installation comes in the kit. Still very satisfied with this tonneau. No big issues with leaks and I love the security factor. Easy to remove too. A one-person job.
