My name is Mark Zauner. That was my dad‘s daily driver I remember helping him put that bike together and then I started riding it off and onto great bike
My '86 Heritage is the best bike I've ever owned, I never knew they made one in '85. This is an under appreciated gem that deserves to be preserved. About as cool as it gets for an evo.
In the beginning after you had already warmed it up, it had the best sounding idle I've ever heard. "Potato potato potato".... and the V-Twin Angels sang!!! 🇺🇸🦅
Beautiful rare bike and a great walk around. I noticed the left muffler is adjusted about 5/8" lower than the other side. I'm only telling you that cuz I know you're a perfectionist !
I am saving for my fist harley right now aiming for a 92 to 98 heritage. Ride a 950 vstar right now its a little small for my 5' 10" injured fat butt. I hope i can get it to sound almost like this. I want simple reliable and metrics our pain in my side. I want a heritage cause with my injuries a heavy bike is a curse so roadkings etc is out of the question.
@ThePeavey23 vstar will be kept as a back up. Though it's a bit small for my frame. Nothing wrong with age my Connie was 87 put almost 10k in one summer on her how I learned not my konda riding position. So if taken care of reliability is easy if not super taken care of just general. Well it's a harley parts our 10x easier to get than metric.
It's amazing it only has 27,000 MI that's amazing that behind the windshield is the name it's amazing that out in California the gentleman kept that bike amazing what a find play Kaplan Cycles God Bless America❤
Looks like he took an 85 fxst and put on the fl fenders and front end. The first year for the heritage was 86. They all were red with cream sides on the tank. In 87 they offered a black and cream color and a limited edition metallic blue and cream with windshield and bags. I bought one.
First year Heritage Softail was 1985 I have the brochure for one google it, there's a brochure for one available for sale on eBay 1985 it is the red and cream
@@KaplanCycles That one brochure add on ebay search comes up as both 1985 and 1986. only place in the brochure it states any date is on the back cover. At the bottom at time of printing it's copywrited 1985 all rights reserved but in the upper right hand corner it says the 1986 FLST has a 12 month warranty. I also looked on the 1985 full model brochure and it doesn't show any Heritage.
Ken, can you explain something for me? The old Evos like this one tend to have that awesome "galloping horse" sound from the exhaust, but I don't notice it on later Evos. What's the reason for that?
If it has the stock carburetor and intake and cam it's a much milder sound most of the older ones have a different carburetor or at least exhaust but the cam plays a big part of it
Potato potato potato, I love it as well. Ken, do you have a Harley in your museum with about every motor made, it's hard to imagine that you could possibly let one go. If I could just make it there one time, I'm sure it would take me a few hours being mesmerized!!

Idk about a 35 year old bike being reliable.. good luck an keep the vstar as a nice back up

That's what I thought too, but I'd be happy to be wrong on this one.
