Fight on!!!!! ✌️also first minute gang 👇
I want whoever is over at Iowa… they win games 10-7 routinely year after year. Could you imagine having that much of a stout defense to go along with our offense. Would be like the early 2000’s
This is USC, and we need to buy the best DC we can as soon as possible. The Portal appraproches as well as HS commitments. Add Muschamp to your list. He’s a CO-DC for Georgia, as well as a former HC. He’s only 52, with good ball ahead of him. He can recruit and bring some Georgia Bulldog with him. Instant credibility. ✌️
Sounds like Texas.
you guys just dont get it. Any reputable DC will not want to work for Riley. Soft practices, soft culture, no tackling and just weak.
This is one of my lower tier choices; I question his lack of experience at a top D1 program. USC needs a proven DC from a top D1 program. Good review though. Fight On!
AGREED ‼️
Top choices for dc
1. Jim leonhard
2. Jim leonhard
3. Jim leonhard
Fight on ✌🏻
They need to offer him a pile of money already and get his yes or no so that we can move on with the search. As an analyst he could accept the job offer immediately and get to work without much disruption. The other candidates are already gainfully employed.
@@jayrod1980 Leonhard's ego demands he be a head coach, we just fired someone whose Ego wouldn't let him SIMPLIFY.
Kris Richard checks all the Boxes. Look him up
Homegrown SC guy, played for and coached with Pete Carroll as DC for Seahawks - solid choice.
Trent Bray the Oregon St. defensive coordinator, he recruits the West Coast
Oregon buys these players!
So my concern with getting a DC from some of these lower tier schools is the fact that they don’t have to scheme against top notch OC’s in their conference. So when they get over to a Big10 slate they may get exposed. Similar to Graham Harrell coming from North Texas and having tons of success to the PAC-12 and having a couple successful games until DC’s figured him out and turned his offense into trash.
I say target only guys who have been scheming against top notch OC’s on a regular with success.
Many Diaz , probably a long shot… but was a head coach knows how to recruit & has the #2 defense in the nation…
Appreciate the research. Sounds promising for sure. Manny Diaz would be a nice get. Has big 10 experience.
Thanks fornl your input. Fight on!
Horrible choice. No more coaches from small schools.
The DC from Oregon state would even be a better choice.
My 5 DC list for USC:
Aranda Baylor
Minter Michigan
Manny Diaz Penn St
Jim Leonard
Parker Iowa
Fight on ✌
Back to basics…what a unique approach…😎
Thanks for the video
Great analysis Blade! I'm in!
Right now, no ln leadership on defense, basic tackling is horrible, confusion on defense, out of place, over persue etc, all reflections of this present defensive staff.
USC needs to overhaul the whole defensive staff.
It starts with the USC AD hiring the right DC and that DC bring in his own defensive staff/coaches that way the staff and players are all on the same page on defense. ✌️✌️
Well done! Fight on✌🏿✌🏿
LR and AD Jen must think of a defense that is top 4 not top 30. Pete and Norm model produces that! Trojan Glory days means being elite on both sides of the ball. 5* SC recruits need NIL deals and developmental elite coaches preparing them for NFL.
Scott Schrader is hearing that USC is potentially going after Pete Kwiatkowski. The obvious to this is his connection with Jen Cohen at Washington. He would be a solid hire. He improves the teams scoring defense every year. I just don't know if USC can steal him. If he was still at Washington, I could see it but going from Texas to USC is imo hard. He is getting paid well and Texas has more money than USC.
Love this✌🏼
Excellent review. My preference is still Jim Leonard.
Scott Symons looks like a great choice not sure a Texan wants to work in L.A.
@@paulvon2378 terrible choice
@@paulvon2378 well that would be a lot of Texans… Riley is a Texan too. Texas and Florida currently turn out more talent where we need it than SoCal at the moment… huge, fast trench players
Jim Lenard
Two hurdles to Leonhard:
1) does he get hired as an HC after other schools for theirs?
2) would he actually WANT to come to L.A. with Lincoln?
He sounds like a viable candidate but it’s clear that the defensive roster needs overhauling. The guys we have don’t strike fear into our opponents. I’m sure he could do wonders with our existing roster but sometimes you need a talent infusion as well. Truth be told, I prefer a DC that’s capable of running either 4-3-3, 3-4-4 defensive schemes. He sounds like a good recruiter with a more proven track record than our former DC. That’s important to the players. The question is: does he have a strong enough voice to challenge coach Riley’s power puff girls practice habits. All those former quarterbacks turned head coaches tend to be soft. Coach Harbaugh is an outlier. You gotta convince coach Riley to tackle often at practice. And stop worrying about injuries. They’re going to happen regardless. Keep the list coming.
Sounds like a promising candidate, only concern is he has not done it at the Power 5 level and he is not a known name which could positively impact recruiting
yea, name brand is important, that's what recruits understand.
Nope, No Time for next step guys. We Need a Proven Tough DC PERIOD!
I really feel SC could do better( No more 3.3.5 or variants of it).
If SC could pry Coach Link away from Oklahoma, then SC should aim for the best. I really hope SC goes after:
1. Dave Aranda(if available)
2. Manny Diaz( he's definitely more suited for LA than PA)
3. Tosh Lupoi
4. Ron English
5. Tom Allen
Out of this list only English or possibly Allen are feasible… maybe Diaz. Aranda is being paid HC money and unlikely to be fired this year. Diaz is already making a lot of money at PSU and Tosh is reportedly being paid $2 million a year by Oregon. Are we willing to offer the guy $3 million? I don’t think Tosh is proven enough yet for that but maybe he is when you count his SoCal recruiting prowess.
They have to get big on the lines
Let’s go!
Ok, I'm sold. Go get him!
Trying to figure out who we’re going to hire as DC is agonizing as a fan, whoever it is I hope they bring long time experience and proven top level production on the field not a dude who has the “ability” to do something great at USC. 🔥✌️
Physicality. Thanks Gabe.
Great info. This would be a great choice. Keep the videos of the choices coming. This is much needed to educate the fanbase on our search.
We should have hired this guy. Now it looks like he is going to Texas A&M
Great choice!!!! Also Shiel Wood from Tulane and before that Troy. Would be worth a look.
Sounds like a logical fit. For SC and him.
Jom Leonhard is the obvious choice but if not him. Mike Tressel Wisconsin/Cincinnati is my next choice. He brings the Luke Fickell system. Right now two teams are in the top 25 defensively using it. Wisconsin and ND.
Nothing line firing a coach during the season to blow things all to hell.
I like this candidate but what is his ability to recruit because I feel we need a really good recruiter in our next DC as well. ✌🏾
So true!
Gary Patterson would be a great fit he knows what type of defense you need to win big games
Video on Pete Kowunski, DC TX and D'Anthon Lynn, DC UCLA
I would like to see somebody like a Manny Diaz. He can recruit Florida and he's very successful every where he goes
Agreed with you, his proven track record as recruiter, developer, and DC makes him a great option in my mind. Success in two conferences as well
Except Miami 😂
I guess I don’t follow, as a DC at Miami he was great, head coach is a completely different story, his tenure was horrible. His defense at PSU is also great. Can you clarify where I’m misunderstanding?
@@FrontierTravels25 yes exactly for one we will probably never have to worry about him leaving to take a head coaching job ever again his specialty is defensive coordinator he is great at defensive coordinator yes he sucks at a head coach that benefits us for the simple fact again that he's probably not ever going to get another head coaching job again! This guy knows EVERYONE in Florida he can recruit
@anthonyjames4319 Manny Diaz wasn't a good Head Coach. But as DC under Mark Richt he had Miamis defense buzzing.
If we finish strong and get a new years 6 bowl I consider it a successful year. Can’t wait to see who we hire
Ted Tollner is available. Why not him? Or Larry Smith? Both top quality football minds.
There has to be a way that someone can slide coach some ideas to look in to
Gabe, does your Patreon have more long form content? When can we see some long stuff? 😎
As an Oregon fan I think you should hire Grinch back!
Love the idea
Not looking for a top tier defense says who ? I want them to field the best defense they possibly can.
You sound so happy in this video... I wonder why? 🤔✌🏾
How about Coach Bray Oregon state or Kansaw state DC Klanderman?
Sounds like a winner. Tireless recruiter is huge. Does he have a strength and conditioning coach to go with him? Gobna' need a physical defense to make any noise in the Big 10.Is he on Lincoln R's radar? If not he needs to be.....
Fight on! I can’t wait to see who Riley hires
I’d like to pick up an experienced coach who’s proven to be consistently successful in the power 5 conferences, against solid competition.
Is it possible to still make the pac12 championship, and if so what else has to happen?
Usc needs new strength coach and nutritionist. None of the returning lineman gained weight.
I like The Defensive coordinator from Wisconsin!!❤
Please bring us him!
He looks a good fit. A lot are pushing Leonard but the type of player he gets is very then USC. I like Leonard because despite leaving less elite talent, He's very good defenses consistently. I do like the fact that Symons structures his D around the players he has.
The other thing is there seems to be this popular narrative all USC needs is a decent not necessarily elite defense. But why shouldn't we want and strive for an absolute top defense? I think an elite D should be the goal always. Mama, Georgia, Clemson when they were at the top all had really great Ds. As well as all of SC's great teams from J. McKay throughPete Carroll.
I like him for our next DC.
Great videos, keep up the good work! Would like to see a Glenn Schumann video personally
Look into Phil Parker might be a Longshot but definitely a homeowner candidate
Seems like a great young man and if he was willing to play in the middle of nowhere Lynchburg, VA at Liberty and the below $1 Mil pay in Dallas, I’m sure we could lock him up for a lot of years.
I’d like them to hire a NFL experienced coach. Donald D’Alesio a defensive assistant under Andy Reid could be a good fit. He has experience as a college DC and coaches DB for the Chiefs. He’s young and should understand how to recruit.
I thought Lucus Black in Friday night lights would be perfect for the roll
I want someone with proven power 5 experience and success
Leonard is still the best option
Make Leonhard say no. If he does, I'm sold on this guy. Double or triple his salary. Let's goooo!!!!!!!!
He’s making well under a million a year and I think we need to offer a guy in the $2 million plus range for the home run hires to make it work. LA is a very expensive place to live and anyone established isn’t going to take a low ball offer to play here.
I mean it’s been reported we still owe Grinch multiple years at $1.8 million and he was awful!
@@jayrod1980 really?? RILEY TRULY TOOK CARE OF HIS BUDY.
SIZE MATTERS
Dave Aranda should be the top choice. Or any Coach in the NFL with a defensive background like Ron Rivera.
Nice video.
Similar to how Manny Diaz rebounded, I would love to welcome back Todd Orlando. I know he can get it done, make the right call Lincoln
Sure, while we are at it, let's bring back Clancy Pendergast, Justin Wilcox, Tee Martin, and Graham Harrell. Sound good to you?
I love SC, but as an SMU Grad... Leave our DC alone, we need him more than you do.
The Michigan DC. Harbaugh might bolt soon. And the Michigan DC would keep Nua.
Do Zach Arnett next. Just fired as HC at Miss St.
Hands off! Go after Van Malone or Phil Bennett or Bradley Dale Peveto. Maybe Ed Orgeron wants to return to SC as a coordinator.
Great vid, I’m really enjoying your content especially since I’m already looking forward to next season. Would you ever do a vid on Phil Parker? I think he’s been one of the nation’s most elite DCs for years now and I have to imagine he’s getting frustrated with Iowa’s lack of offense. I feel like with Riley’s offense and Parker’s defense, we’d be unstoppable.
Trojan Blade #1
I understand the point that he improved the defenses he took over, but giving up 28 or even 21 points a game doesn't sound all that impressive.
Let's get penn state d-coordinator
hell no too inexperienced and DC from small school dont do well in the big ten
Id prefer Manny Diaz or Dave Aranda. Aranda will probably get fired.
Word is Jen Cohen is going after the Texas DC first
I heard about that. The connection she has with Pete over there
@@greg7964 Hasn't she learned from the riley and Grinch situation?
Be careful with "Connections" lady.
Great choice. He's a recruiter too. They were pulling everyone they wanted in the TP over the last 2 years but there were rumors they were NIL bought guys. Not sure it was all him. SMU is in the spending mode So he won't come cheap.
And he’s making peanuts! He would have half the staff from Texas most likely so even though the culture is much different, he already did a stint in Lynchburg VA with my wife’s Alma Mater, so I don’t think the move would bother him too much.
Would like to see this hire. Please stay away from big name profile coaches like from the SEC or Big 10. Let’s think outside the box, try something new. Sometimes these young coaches have a lot to prove.
That DC sounds good.
Disagree about just needing a top20 or top 30 defense.
All current playoff teams are in the top ten in total defense
Next year the playoffs expand but I understand your sentiment. None of those playoff teams are a top 5 offense like Riley teams consistently are. Still, top 20-30 defense would give us a 20 point margin almost every game. It’s not a huge point spread 1-30.
hmmmm good take...
From what I have heard from you Trojan blade I think he would be a very great dc for the Trojans
✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
I think Kris Richard would be a good choice.. Thoughts?
✌️✌️
Do Schumann next
Jim Leonhard or Scott Symons are the top two candidates I would love having especially with being young and having physical defenses. Lincoln Riley wants a national championship to hire a strong defensive mind and pay them top dollar to shows he cares to win. Also, I would hope whoever the DC is can recruit well.
I love the idea of getting Scott. Love the vids man
Wiley and his DWTS strength & conditioning needs to go with Grinch
This is the guy???? He is struggling again North Texas. We need Dave Aranda period. But the Strength and Condition coach needs to be changed.
Nah, I think we need a big time big name DC who can recruit all regions of the country. The minute you said “fly around” pertaining to SMU I was out on this guy. We need tough physical type of defense and a D coach who believes in that mentality. 👎🏽
Kurt Mattix
I like Will Muschamp or Manny Diaz
USC lol, heading in the wrong direction
I live in Dallas and just don’t see this. SMU give gives up tons of points per game??? Nope, your wrong on this one.
They literally allow 15 per game but okay
They gave up 31 to Rice bruh…hard pass
I want a DC who has had success in more than one conference.
I am wary of the push for Big10 DC's because these Big10 defense doesn't show up out of conference. I suspect the Big10 defensive stats are as much a result of weak offenses as they are of good defenses. Utah put up 45 on Ohio State in the '22 Rose Bowl. The Big10 has 1 national championship in the last 20 years.
Washington, Oregon and USC are going to run wild on these Big 10 defenses, and I suspect the current Big10 DCs are going to have to adapt to as opposed to the other way around.
the offense has been bad in the big10 lol. The big10 has had the best defenses outside of bama and Georgia. They’ve been like that for a long time
@@shameless1047 For all the talk of defense winning championships, the Big10 doesn't have anything to show for it. TCU dropped 51 on Michigan last year but could only manage 7 against Georgia...
Big10 defenses are overrated.
