Check out the results for the Sony MEX-XB100BT Stereo Dyno test! This isn't your usual Dyno test, this stereo comes with a built-in 4-channel amplifier that we tested on the SMD D'Amore AD-1 to see it's real wattage output.
Your average car stereo will put out 15-20W to your speakers, this one boldly claims to deliver 40W. We ran the amp on the Dyno, and we were not disappointed!
We test this amplified car stereo on our SMD D'Amore AD-1 at 14.4V to see if it matches the manufacturer's output ratings
40W @ 4Ω
(Not rated at 2Ω, but we still tested it anyways!)

I had same one. Zero complaints. the sound and adjustment for ideal sound was better then I haf expected. Noticeable in sound.
Have both of mine for 6 yrs now. Both still sound great
Bought one of these yesterday..... very pleased with it. Loud enough to get the job done and the options are great.
Are you useing a amp ?or just aftermarket speakers
The one Im getting tomorrow, yes, in 2023 is a 55x4 & very much looking forward to it.
love these dyno videos
Cool test! I know Alpine made head units with "V-Drive" amplifiers a few years ago and some actually required a 20A fuse and 10GA wire directly to the battery. I may try one of those on my Amp Dyno and see how it does...
Dereck BigDWiz I actually have an Alpine CDA-9833 (V-Drive, 26Wx4 rms). May sell if your interested.
I was thinking of those when I saw this video in my subscription box BigDWiz!
+John Clark I think it's too late but however. I'm interested!
I want to install this single din stereo over the one that I have because this one puts out more power to each Speaker
I was reading the instructions
And it says something about connecting the black and yellow directly to the battery but the wires aren't long enough for me to run them to the the battery so I'm confused on how to do it 😕
Did you ever dyno the V Drive Alpine head unit...?
Wait, so will my XB100BT be ok with JBL GTO608C 2-Ohm speakers?
I saw this video 2016 I bought this Sony and fast forward to today its still running great, I have infinity kappa components front and rear no amps, and I run a Alpine 8inch sub in the boot/trunk, the sound is amazing, money well spent.
Ya'll need to test the new version, which is the GS80, which can do 2ohm loads (actually in the owners manual) as well as turning the rear channel to subwoofer out at 2ohm as well.
Looking to install this unit soon. Want to replace the 6x9s and 5.25s factory stock speakers that came with my truck. Any suggestions??
YO SONIC! Good Job man!
This head unit is very good, very happy with mine, nice power and sound quality too.

Unit rocks. Just trying to find out what the db levels are on the slope 1,2,&3 in the subwoofer adjustments.
Thats really good power for the casual driver. Its comparable to having a manufacturer installed amp in some cases. Tuned properly with some good install techniques, it might really shine.
Is there a lot of difference between this and the sony mex-n4100bt in power?
I have this system and I was wondering what speakers would go well with this I have a 2011 mitsu lancer
Make a video on the JL Audio Slash series like the 500/1 or the 1000/1. It would be nice to see really how much power they produce. Thanks.
I'm going to buy this for my rockford fosgate punch p1683, but I'm wondering how would I install the "little black box" with the fuse? The wire is too short to get it to the battery ?
Were all 4 channels loaded and being measured at the same time?
I have the Kicker CS 4-way speakers with two 4x6 front and two 6.5 rear. The 4x6 has a 3.3 ohm resistance with a peak of 150 watts with an RMS of 50 watts. The 6.5 has a 3.3 ohm resistance with a peak of 300 watts with an RMS of 100 watts.
Is this Sony receiver powerful enough to run and make loud distortion free music without clipping? I'm no expert but videos like these informed me enough to ask this question. I'm deciding between running this head unit alone or having a traditional amp installed.
Can the front and rear output be combined for more power ?? + - + -
Got this unit for 90 bucks used.. what a steal!!! Lol had it in my honda accord and it pushed my kicker 6x9s good. About to put it in my mini cooper as we speak. Thanks for the video!
Awesome, I would like to hear it on 4 Tang Band 6x9's.
I just got this stereo and found out that phonecalls Bluetooth go only to front speakers but all my speakers are connected thru an AMP. is there any walk around for this?
I can connect two kit hertz esk on a channel with the cross-over and two more on the other ? in other to have much power for the kit hertz esk 165?
How come the specifications says it only consumes 10 amps like most stereos? Shouldn't the amp consumption be higher if it puts out more power?
Having trouble connecting the amp up should I go straight to the battery or can I wire it to like cigarette lighter since I don't use it ?!? Please help!
Crazy numbers !
Question: what if i am using my old amplifier (1500 watts )to build my sound system at my house but im using power brick instead of batteries.
1.do i have to use 12 to 14Volts power supply?
2.how much ampere i need for the power supply? is it 12Volts 5amp is enough to supply the amplifier?
Thanks for the great review. Does the wiring harness include the regular thin power cable also?
what kind of Mid Speakers 6.5'' can i use with this stereo ??
and i thinking put one sub Rockford Fosgate P300-12 punch
Thanks for the video. I'm about to pick this up on your website and some (6.5")speakers. What speakers would you recommend to pair with this HU? I'm not going to get crazy with my setup. No amps or anything.
hi.can this head unit support fully 2 pair of helix e62c(60 rms) and helix e42c(45 rms) in 4 ohms ?? thanks
Can I run the front and rear outputs in parallel???? To make a 3 way component setup have more wattage? That would be a 2ohm load on 4ohm speakers that rate up to 80w rms is my understanding that it should work according to this video if the amp is running 2ohm load...
I 've replaced an Alpine INE-S900R with this Sony head unit but, after the replacement, the door woofers have lost almost all the mid-bass. When I 've installed it, the Mega Bass function was activated, so they have played a distorted sound for some seconds. The tweeters and the subwoofer are still working fine, though. May I have blown the door woofers?
Awesome vid. Thanks for covering this unit. Sony needs to market more/better. They are falling behind in name branding and still have a lot of exceptional products... customer support is lacking these days though unfortunatly.
by any chance did you guys seen at what volume it starts to distort. I currently have a radio the does a full volume of 35 I also have a SMD dd1 when I set the gain on my amplifier I have no Distortion at all full volume out of my RCA I was curious enough to know if I was distortion-free in my mids and highs off the deck as well so I tested the dd1 off one of the channels one day for some reason I distort at volume 29 out of 35. so I was wondering if by any chance you guys tested DD1 on this radio and saw if it was distortion-free at full volume or at what volume it starts to distort
For 55w x 4 sony stereo can i connect 2 4channel amplifiers and 1 mono amplifier?
with a high sensitivity sub/correct box, this headunit powered setup would pound nicely.
im thinking of getting this or the alpine cde-hd149bt which is best sound i also have a kicker l7 with a old school rockfort amp. im with a oldschool alpine faceout now but want the Bluetooth and want to update. any help will will be greatly appreciated.
This thing is gorgeous
Need your help with my MEX-XB100B Bluetooth audio please..
Guys, My bluetooth is paired and is recognizing my device and the song being playing..I actually see the song playing in my Sonys display but I have no sound..
When I plug in my device to the front input then I can hear the stream fine from google Play but not in bluetooth
It all worked fine including the bluetooth last week...I tried resetting the system and parring again..Same problem no sound
there is several icons visible including a "lock" icon when in "BT AUDIO"
best head unit i ever bought
Can you connect opel astra g's stearing wheel controls to this model?
Just ordered this deck for my wife's 2004 Wrangler. It has a Sony deck in it now but its only 17 watts RMS X 4. And that's just not cutting it. Don't want to run an external amp as I really don't have the room for it. So this looks like it will be a great option!
I have 4 new Infinity speakers coming for it as well. Two 5.25s fro the dash and two 6.5s for the sound bar. There 3.3 ohm speakers so It should rock!
Jarret Cloutier How did you like the Sony head unit? I'm looking at 1 myself.
allyn from amplified! sweet. very nice stereo however i had a client get one of these and the stereo would keep prompting him to open sony's app on his phone. the stereo wouldnt take any instructions from the faceplate (volume, track adv, display, etc) until you hit source and went through all the sources and stopped on bt audio. then it would behave normally. that power output is nice. perhaps a market of 2ohm speakers will come around again. nice vid
I just installed an mex xb 100 be and I'm getting the output error message, any suggestions?
Sonic Electronix do you have a video that shows how to check a head unit for max volume with an oscilloscope?
Do you know the maximum un clipped volume for this unit? I'm trying to set my gain on sub amps. Thanks a bunch!
Been running my speakers at 2ohms just fine front doors tied into tweeters and rear doors tied into rear 6x9s even pushing a 750.1 d kx kicker to a dvc4 sa v3 12 at 2 ohms all sounds great loud loud
Yup
What are the best components with this head unit? also are the xs xb160 coaxials any good with the head unit?
what kind of dac is it running? some low quality one or a 16 or 24bit high quality one? and will it play flac?
Loving it!!
any idea where I can get a replacement speaker wire harness?
can you run it at 2ohm for long time or does it overheat and shutdown?
si pongo un woofer en la salida trasera. cuantos RMS me esta dando?
Impressive!
can you do a review on the pioneer Pioneer DEH-4800FD
Hi I have a radio touch screen 6.5" is out 60warrs x4 and I by a amplifier alpine is two channels e 30wattas can you please let me know a Maine watts I can put in my car speakers front and rear to have a best sound thank you very much regards
Love that unit, I got one
There is a damn electronic control of the total absorption that would make you turn off the car radio. In some songs with strong bass tones isn't possible turn the Volume at max level (50). How can I resolve it?
anyone here knows where can i buy the wire harness for this car stereo online?
What output in rms do you think a pioneer sph da 250 dab wlll give .l know it say 4x50 mosfet but what do you think its real world rms would be . Thanks .
I just bought a boss 200watts ...and a boss 400watts door speaker's and a 500watts back speakers and I have a Sony CD car stereo I'm just wondering what stereo will have the most power to run the speakers it's not in my car yet
Bought this head unit when it first came out I have an 1600watt amp and 15’ sub 1000rms in the trunk of my Cadillac massive bass
I got this head unit after watching a few videos on it, it is bloody awesome and keeps up with my 2 12" subs nicly (not running off the head unit of course) The best money I have spent, the hands free is great. The only let down is the songpal app is shit, it wont change from landscape to portrait screen and I dont want it in portrait so I deleted it. Great head unit though, good amount of controllability
at what volume did the head unit start clipping?
can anyone tell me if this player let's you play FLAC files?
At what volume does this headunit disort at?
think brooo....i m biginner in car radios ....so i want to choose one.... i love listen a good sounds....how to choose a car radio ... and how to choose or what speakers choose .. think u
Does it has stereo sound with left & right channel sound or is it a mono sound ?
thats very impressive
I bought this radio as soon as it was available online which was I think 2 months ago and I love it. It powers everything perfect and is super clean sounding too. The only thing I've seen is that you shouldn't go much past 45 on the volume. Sometimes it will cut out and say output error if you have at max volume which is 50.
***** Yep, you're right. It distorts at 46. I have this headunit as well.
+sam cardinal I am having a problem with mine, it just started saying output error when I turn the volume up to about 35 and what happens is the speakers stop playing anything, but the subs will still play. Do you know what could be causing the problem?
+AHB33192 mine stopped working because I think I was pushing the "amp" to hard at 50 and it wouldn't play anything after that. not subs or anything. and as far as clarity I spent alot of tuning mine
Cool unit.
What is the SQ of this unit compared to a Pioneer 80prs ?
This is an awesome review that sets a standard for others to replicate.I would love a review on the MEX-XB120BT, that I just purchased from the Sonic Electronix website.
I want to install this single din stereo over the one that I have because this one puts out more power to each Speaker
I was reading the instructions
And it says something about connecting the black and yellow directly to the battery but the wires aren't long enough for me to run them to the the battery so I'm confused on how to do it 😕
120bt is incredible if you tune in the settings right! 12" kicker in the back of my truck sounds like it has a 600w amp pushing it
@jdfinepainting4460 , I have the mexxb120bt , im trying to figure out how to run the wires on 1 10inch massive audio pw10 dual voice coil , of course it has 2 different terminals that each have a negative and positive connections. What do I connect , the Sony wiring diagram says to connect to just 1 of the rear channels of the head unit , but the speaker has 4 connections ?
so I have two speakers, one is 4 ohm midwoofer (100 RMS), and a 4 ohm dual coil subwoofer (100 RMS). if I connect both them in parallel, would they both be running at 2 ohms? I plan on doing this to both rear speakers, the left and right.
I know I can use jumpers on the dual coil subwoofer to make it 2 ohms, but I'm wondering of I use just 1 set of those terminals and run it parallel with the the midwoofer if it would work. I don't wanna blow up the midwoofer
Great video bro as always, love this channel. i wonder if you could help me choose a single din, I'm based in London England and i have just fabricated an iPad mini4 dash kit in my car. could you please advise me on what the best single din radio is with all the latest features.
Sony MEX-XB100BT 4x100 is packed with features but i thought ill ask the professionals if there is something better out there now
What do you think of sony stereos as comparison to the pioneer ones as i am aware that pioneer is big in the game
thank you
how come I have problems with my radio succeeds every 2 minutes other colors that flicker, really difficult
then he automatically goes to BT and I can do nothing more louder quieter sound I have to pull him completely out of the contact and plug it back in, 1 minute after that I have that show
how do I turn this off I do not use BT in my car I just want to listen to my music thank you if you want to help I am backed by stationary car due to these problems otherwise I will buy new radio. If I do not get help from someone, that to turn that BT
can someone help me find atleast a 30,40, or 50 x 4 rms stereo (single din)
What are omhs???
Are there any other stereos with a built in amp that aren't crazy expensive?
So has anybody figured out the max undistorted volume?? An has anybody set their sub amp gain with this?? Would u turn the clear audio off when setting amp gain?? Notice theirs a huge difference in sound. Also bluetooth volume. Would turning that up maybe +2 ( cause I've never gone past that lol ) cause distortion? Been listening to this radio an it sounds damn near clean all the way up. Lol but I never go past 42 anyway
Have you tested the new 120bt version?
How do you set up sub direct?
I just got one. picked it over pioneer deh80prs for price and power. the SQ is amazing all the way up to 50 but the power from the deck is barely enough to power 6.5 components in the front and 5.25 midranges in the back. maybe enough for stock or low end speakers but if your running subs you will want an amp for the mids/highs or it will get drowned in bass. hope that helps anyone buying one. features are amazing and sub and RCA outputs are strong AF.
Mike Bennett I have both one for each of my cars and I thought the same. I haven't noticed any distortion but with the windows down I feel like it needs more juice in my 2 door coupe. but it does have the USB quick charge feature over the pioneer unit, but the pioneer unit is superior IMO for the features and cost vs this one.
@smash how’s the Sony holding up I’ve read a lot of units stop working I am between this and the prs but trying to stay within budget
tretolanolan24 it finally burned up. Circuit board died. Melted a solder point and no power. On to pioneer lmao.
tretolanolan24
I have one since two year with 4X xs-xb130 5.25in speakers without problem
The sound quality is very good but not too loud as well the bass level not high even when use mega bass option
@@mikebennett6263 Are you sure the circuit board died? Sony released an update that fixed a power issue where in some cases the stereo wouldn't turn back on when you turn the keys on unless you disconnect the battery for 10 seconds and re-connected it. Haven't had an issue since! Also you can get more juice out of it if you turn on HPF and turn the Bluetooth volume "BTA Level" up to +4.
Just order this unit. Going to run 4 tweeters off the amp headunit power.
Awesome, I am looking forward to trying this thing out. Going to run 4 5x7 components @4ohms off HU power and a separate sub/amp. I've only used Sony headunits over the past 5 years and haven't had a single issue. My only complaint, which seems to be the same that I'm reading from other customers, is that their headunits are becoming progressively uglier. I wish the MEX-XB100BT had a more refined look to it, instead of looking like some raver on ecstasy designed it on a bad trip. Oh well, maybe I'm just getting old...
doriftosan4ag I thought the same about the look before buying it. However, it's a look you kind of grow to love. Looks great in the dash once you match the color of the unit to the rest of the car's dash.
Yea, I agree....ugly cosmetics.... Need to get the designer from the 2000s lol
doriftosan4ag So I bought it and I've been playing around with it for the past week. Overall impressions, lots of clear/clean power, lots of adjustments, but I feel like even after messing with the 10 band eq, I am missing some frequencies that I used to hear with my older Sony decks. I've played with every single option and listened to songs I know well and I can hear so much missing. I installed some inexpensive Pioneer 6x8's with NVX OFC 16 gauge wire, also sound deadened most of the car including the front doors. I have a feeling the speakers I chose are not able to accurately reproduce the signal coming out of the headunit. I am going to switch to some better speakers next month and see if that fixes it. If not, I am gonna have to ditch the headunit and just go back to an older headunit with an external amp :/
Timothy yes and no yes the head unit plays every fq in a song the doors should be picking them up but if you mess with the eq settings to mess with fs its will play
I'm confused. I have a head unit that has 55 × 4 rms. When you hook it up in the car is the amp power already being used by the speakers or do you use those rcas somehow on the back?
That 55×4 is a fake number. It's more like 18w x4 for 99.99% of head units on the market.as you saw sony does real 45w
Do you definitely need to connect this stereo directly to the car battery under the car bonnet? It seems a bit crazy having to drill a hole from the sealed interior out to the bonnet. Is there no chance of splicing the existing wires (used for the old stock stereo) and taking the power from there?
If your cigarette lighter port drives 15A (Check the fuse for it), then you can splice from there, no need to drill through the firewall. You can splice to it from anywhere that has 15A & up in your interior.
I've seen amps not push 75 watts loathes is a good radio
I have one more question, it might seem like a stupid question, when connecting directly to the battery dose the unit stay on all the time? Will power down when you shut car off, or will it stay on and drain the battery? It's point of debate between my friends and I. Thanx
Slim Goody no it will not the red wire is still hooked to ignition
So I bought this deck and paired it with Alpine sps-610 coaxial speakers. it replaced the factory stereo on a 2007 Subaru Impreza. I got the installation done at visions where we purchased. Was pretty excited to hear the difference unfortunately when we played the system it wasn't even an upgrade from the factory system. Can somebody help me I don't know what's wrong. To me those pieces should sound much better than the factory unit. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that the installers did not add the fuse wire to the battery. I questioned them on it and they said that it doesn't need to be done. Could this be causing my poor sound quality issue. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks
You need to run a cable to the batt..
plain and simple.
Av output wire kaha se nikalna he
When are the forums gonna be back up?
Wtf cant believe BEAST!
Power consuption @2ohm?
Since you guys spoke to Sony and they said that it runs fine at 2 ohms what I be okay if I were to get a 4 ohm tweeter and a 4-ohm six-and-a-half mid with no tweeter and run them and parallel to drop it down to 2 ohms for all four channels on the stereo. I'm thinking about running the head unit like that and been wanting to ask if it would be okay with me taking my own risk of course but like you said you guys spoke to Sony and they said it runs good at 2 ohms
Cisco Thumps if you have the speakers crossed over, I believe the amp still sees it as 4 ohm.
Is it dangerous to use a Sony mex-xb100bt with car stock speakers?
is there any double dins like this
How about a update and do a Dyno on the Mex xb120bt?
It's the same deck, same output, few more features and the amp is the same. Apparently slightly more reliable.
@@Thatonepersonz I think the output is 5 watts greater, bro. This one at 40x4 and the xb120bt at 45x4
