My biggest complaint about the old bantam was the levelwind was too close to the spool. At least judging from pictures, they seem to have pushed the levelwind out from the spool more with this one, so I might give bantam another try.
I thought it was going to be a problem in the first Gen but I never had a problem with it or even noticed any difference than like my Met mgl 2016 models
Man I absolutely love the old bantam. It feels so sturdy and built to last. I’m definitely going to have to pick this one eventually, just don’t know whether to go 7.1:1 or 8.1:1. My old one feels amazing on my 7’2” Jig rod but 6.2:1 is just way too slow for them
Absolutely! If you like a heavier reel, there is no better one to flip and pitch with in the line up. Some prefer lighter weight reels and they chose the newer Curado 70 MGL or 150 MGL. Go with the XG model, whichever you choose and get that 8 gear ratio
Man I keep watching your videos gonna make me keep buying every reel lol. Question I going to get the curado mgl 6.2 ratio would you think that will be a good square bill reel sir and mid crank bait reel
I do not understand Infinity Drive. I have a Conquest 100HG, amazing smooth and powerful reel. I just don't get how they say it still has dual support but doesn't at the same time. The Bantam should be: 2 main shaft bearings, 1 anti-reverse, 2 spool bearings, 2 pinion bearings, and 2 knob bearings for 9 total.
Infinity drive is basically a hinged drive that offers better transmission of power under load according to the engineers. In spinning it has the spool shaft run through the pinion gear rather than be supported by it. Hopefully this link works. www.google.com/search?q=shimano+baitcasting+infinity+drive&rlz=1CDGOYI_enCA1014CA1014&hl=en-US&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=ALiCzsbq51fMj67-DR8tBOsE3pJw9PMnzQ:1659393733014&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiqwv6v26b5AhUrq4kEHYT1AzQQ_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=414&bih=716&dpr=3#imgrc=MJ6InWvq_PouEM
Bantam is special because of the Coresolid frame but you can’t argue with the performance of the 150 MGL. Don’t think you will go wrong with either but for solid feel and build the Bantam is superior
Not really anything major but the new spool being the MGL 3 is lighter and according to the numbers 15% lower start up inertia so casting light baits should be even easier.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I was really hoping for better casting distance since the line guide is supposed to be farther away from the spool plus the spool is actually bigger diameter but more narrow then the old model. I had to use the yumeya shallow spool for the 18 bantam to get any real distance
@@jeffreylenz7314 I honestly never had issues with casting distance with the previous generation. I used it primarily for reaction baits and light Texas rigs using 18lb FC Sniper and could dump the spool pretty consistently so I wasn't honestly looking for more distance. You may find it completely different however. Hopefully you can test one out!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors same here. Ive heard the complaints, but ive never had issues getting distance with my bantams. Get the brake settings tuned in right and no distance issues and no backlashing
Could this reel be used in saltwater with the mgl spool? I’ve heard from some that it’s fine and others say no the spool is very susceptible to corrosion. Only reason I’m loot at this reel instead of the Tranx is the availability of a 8.1 in left hand.
The MGL spool is fine in the salt. Typically Magnesium reacts poorly to saltwater but the MGL spool stands for Magnumlite not magnesium. The Tranx has improved saltwater resistance than any of the freshwater reels and also doesn’t have X Ship which can be a susceptible area for corrosion but with proper maintenance this reel will be a workhorse just like Curado K has been in the salt.
I actually have never slipped 11 lbs and have a fairly stout hook set. You only get about 4-5lbs of pressure on the hook end even with braid. On a spinning rod only 2lbs! Obviously depends on rod power
Not only technologically enhanced but it looks fantastic as well!!!

Moving that line guide forward has now peaked my interest in this reel. Looks awesome, now just waiting for them to be in stock!!

Always excellent description of reels JP. Great job
Glad you like them!

I love my Bantam HG Reel paired with my Gloomis NRX ...I can't wait to get my hands on the new Bantam and pair it with an NRX + ... 😀😀🎣
Me too, but not with a NRX but on a kistler Helium 😀
Would you recommend this reel for flipping and pitching here in Florida? Love these videos!!!!

I would go with the 7 for square bills I like lower gear for bigger deeper cranks but the 6 is a workable reel for both!

Thanks fot the video!! Do you think the price difference between 22 bantam and curado 150 mgl is worth it?

When are these going to be available? It’s been almost a year now and no one has them!
They have been in stores for quite a while now but they can't keep up to demand
Im lookig for a long casting Shimano reel for my 8 ft cranking rod .for large crankbaits, which one do you recomend.
I would go with either the Curado DC 200 or Curado M 200.

Where can I pick up that sweet Jackall t-shirt ?
That's a oldie bud. Probably 6 years old. 😂
What the difference between this reel and metanium mgl 2020?
Metanium is lighter. My only conclusion
Hi Sir, What this version 2022 of Bantam reel is have drag clicker like Daiwa Zillion TW HD 1000 2022..?
Don't recall offhand but I will take a look for you when I'm back home.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Oke Sir, Thanks for your attention..
Like to wait for an update from you..! 🙂
Shimano and Daiwa need to up their game on drag lbs for actuall heavy cover flipping though. Everything else is on point.
True mostly 5-6kg max compare to Abu and other made in korea reel with 12kg max

How will this new bantam do for inshore saltwater use?
I will do very well as long as you are diligent on cleaning properly at days end.
Thanks. That’s always been the case. Good to hear. I like what i see so far.
My Calcutta 200gtb is maid like that the gold ones
@JP. Has X-ship just been renamed to Infinity drive or is there a difference between the two?
Essentially an improved, more efficient version of X Ship
Hi JP
What about Metanium Shallow Edition?
Haven’t heard anything about it for the North American market
@JP DeRose Does the Shimano company hate Daiwa? Or are they friends?
Send me that one so I can understand what you was talking about lol
Release Jackall apparel in the US shimano’s is boring
