    I bought myself a Shimano Calcutta 51 as a HS graduation present in 92’,, I’ve still got it, it’s got the same braking system and as much as I’ve done to it with modifications, etc. it is still my favorite reel to fish. Those drag washers are difficult to replace though.

      You can cut carbon fiber sheet to any size you need. There are a lot of precut washes you can buy for more common sizes. I add a ptfe lube (innox mx6) to the washer you want to smear it on with your finger so it looks wet, not add a thick layer.

    I recently referbished my shimano bantam magcast sx10. It made it out for a fish. Whats pretty crazy to think the technology in that reel from 1982 is the exact same in modern reels today. One thing for sure is the modern reels are a LOT easier to work on and have been simplified way more.

    Hi Viktor, one question out of context! Ever had an old Vanquish FA?
    Do you think is it still a valuable reel? Cannot find the FB in shops and I don’t particularly like the new one, so I thought bout the FA!
    What you think about it?

    Im pretty sure theres a little bearing on the line guide worm drive but its probably fine. I done the same thing to a couple reels like that i got from my father an he was a salt water guide so some of the bearings were worse than yours. The one u have there is the super free or SF an i think they do cast better than the regular model. I still use mine all the time. I need to order your bearings for my legalis. Want get some of your gram an a half jigs also last i looked they were out. Love your videos

      @ifishcatfish you make a good point, and for panfish it's really hard to beat a jig type bait.
      I've been dabbling with some small jdm plugs for stocked trout, it is interesting for sure, hate the crowds and closeness shore angling but there is something hypnotic about interacting with a stressed low active fish visibly in clear calm water mid day, as it has seen hundreds of different things in the water
      I sound crazy I'm sure but I tell you it is the most technical fishing I have ever encountered, tenfold of even bass fishing.

    They don’t have them on replacement parts,,, some EBay and a few obscure parts places have some ( I’ve got a good supply), ,, also, the carbontex replacements that people sell don’t work, they’re too thick! Tolerance for these reels are tight and measurements can’t be too thick! FYI, there is a guy that sells “Ice Washers” from the UK and they are thinner and work great especially if you’re installing a drag clicker and need thin washers to accommodate it.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Рік тому

      carbontex washers are definitely thinner than the drag that was in this reel. Carbontex washers come in many different thicknesses. Also, there is a washer on the other side of the main shaft specifically for that purpose - if u put a very thick carbon disk, you can remove that washer to make space. But carbontex washers in my opinion are too THIN, not too THICK

    • @davidcloyd1296
      @davidcloyd1296 Рік тому

      @@ifishcatfish I did buy the thinnest carbontex washers available, maybe they’re making some even thinner these days, but I’ve found these “Ice washers” to be good and available for my Calcutta 51’s. Maybe worth a try on an ultralight spinning reel that you like, but that has a subpar drag.

      @@davidcloyd1296 It didn't make this video, but i actually put one carbontex in this reel. But it was 0.3mm and the original was 1.3mm and i didn't want to fill the whole thing with washers and put original back.
