    Small tip from someone who's run applied survival courses for over 20years. SOL bivvies GREAT bit of kit. Are prone to easily snag and tear though so adding a small length (1mt) of duct tape rolled on itself serves as a brilliant repair kit if needed. Also useful for other field expedient kit repairs in a pinch!

    Really enjoying the vids John. Keep me sane in between my own trips to the fells. For those on a budget, I use Harrier running vest (online sales) - works well for me. Also Alpkit headtorch (Qark) is a good budget buy. Keep the vids coming! Cheers

    Nice one John… IKEA! Noooooo, Aldi!!!! 😂😂 Pretty much same gear/brand. I don’t use boxes, I prefer bags, squashie, foldable, cheap as chips. Ran the Trigger (8th Jan)… Cold, soooo, cold. Fell Runners Association, no poles allowed. A hard race that requires a fair bit of planning even before you hit the start line, as it’s a linear route. I had Sealskinz Gloves… didn’t live up to their claims, hands were wet, and very cold. Ran in VJ iRocks, good tread, fitted well, excellent tread etc, etc, but not suited to everyone, as they’re a narrow fit. Carried Water Bottle (Empty at the start, then filled at one of the clean stream crossings). Food, Aldi Chilli Peanuts. Aldi Spicy Cheddar and Chorizo, Cheese n Pickle Wraps, Jelly-babies and a block of Kendal Mint Cake as my Emergency Food. Long day, 5 hours 40 something which considering it’s from Marsden to Edale, just happy to have survived/completed. Next race, Yorkshire Three Peaks (29th Apr), looking forward to your next vid. Be happy, stay safe. Nedders

      Sounds like it was a blast mate. I hear ya about the bags but I like the convenience of just throwing all in 😉 I’m planning on filming the 3 peaks by the end of the month (weather dependent) so keep an eye out for that 🤘🏻

    Some super vids there, John. I like your informal style, entertaining & interesting with some awesome locations/views. Keep up the good work. In fact, if you could up production a bit coz I'm running out of your stuff to watch 😆 Best wishes 👍🏼

      Ha cheers Tom I appreciate that. It’s averaging 1 every week (ish) at the mo isn’t it? Weather’s a bit pants and the days it’s good I find myself working 😩
      I’m optimistic next week will be better 👌🏻

    Loved this John. I’ve spent so much time and money investing in hiking a camping gear, this is new world. But I really fancy it. I’ll need to train though - my exercise has always been weight lifting so I’m going to spend this year improving cardio. Important at 46. I love the idea of moving light and fast through the fells. Im sold on your footwear (Scott’s), running pack, quiver, and poles. You should set up affiliate links for commission! 1 comment, 1 Q - I love the Garmin InReach. Really helped me, particularly on the overnighters when there’s no reception and family wondering if I’m okay. The subscription is a pain, but worth it ultimately. Q - why’s your thoughts on less expensive versions of kit? I nipped to Decathlon yesterday and they have running vests (that look the biz to the naive and inexperienced eye) but coming in at £35. I suppose you only get what you pay for… but I’ve had some relatively decent cheaper stuff there in the past. Love your channel mate, hopefully this crappy weather passes by soon. Take care, Simon 👍

      Hi Simon thanks for the msg. I was in the same situation as you. Almost all of my exercise was powerlifting, felt I needed to up my cardio and got back into running. Did my first half marathon (road) and wondered why I’d stopped running. However, I found all the strength work I’d been doing really helped with my running performance.
      My thoughts on cheaper gear. I feel when it comes to outdoor gear you get what you pay for. That being said there’s lots of good cheaper stuff out there if you know what you’re looking for, but you don’t want something failing in you when you need it the most. Decathlon are great for consumables like leggings and shorts etc but I wouldn’t buy equipment like a tent from them. But that’s my opinion. As for their running vests.. I’ve not looked at them so couldn’t say. But my Salomon has lasted me 2 years of heavy use and it’s still going strong. 🤘🏻

      @@lakelandtrailrunner brilliant, thanks so much for taking the time to reply in detail John. That’s great to know re powerlifting - that’s exactly my background, although recently I have expanded to HIIT. I’ve never really been a road runner, but definitely going to get into it to ready myself. The attraction of the fells is obvious, but the thing that’s making me think I could do it is the pace. There’s no need to be legging it and gassing out - which has been my downfall with road running. Thanks for your thoughts on cheaper gear… I understand and agree. You definitely shouldn’t apologise for “going on” in your vids - seen you do this a couple of times now! The attraction to these kind of channels is, for me, part footage and information, and part vlogger - you have a very nice way about yourself that is easy to listen to. Continue to keep the word bloopers in, enjoy the natural feel! Thanks mate and have a good week, look forward to the next one ⛰️

    Hi John , I have a Salomon agile think it's 10 litres. Do you have any issues with it bouncing around ? Mine does a lot , we especially with stuff in the front

    • @lakelandtrailrunner
      @lakelandtrailrunner  8 місяців тому +1

      Hey thanks for the question. To be honest no my vests don’t really bounce too much.. I cinch the front quite tight when I’m on the move that helps..

    Hi John. Very much enjoying the Vlogs/Vids. Always a concern of mine is keeping the map dry. The Ortlieb case looks just the ticket. Does a standaedd explorer OS map fit? Cheers bud. Happy running.

      @lakelandtrailrunner  Рік тому

      Cheers Pat I’m glad you’re enjoying them 🙂 It does. However, I remove the card cover and refold my maps. You also get larger cases than the one I show in my vid so you can have more area displayed. 🤘🏻

    Have you done any navkit/ watch reviews yet?

    • @lakelandtrailrunner
      @lakelandtrailrunner  Рік тому +1

      No mate I haven’t. I don’t use my watch to nav with it’s not that good. OS app on my phone and occasionally a map and compass. However, it’s an idea for the future 🙂
