We picked up many new snakes after an owner unfortunately had to rehome their entire collection. Thankfully, we were within driving distance to help them out with their Colombian rainbow boas, hognose snakes and ball pythons.

Hey Alex, super as always. Just thinking... ya know how jewels r always displayed on dark brite colors, if u paint the walls one of those it would really set off ur tanks. It's a bitch to paint over again but it sure can look stunning.
Thanx Again Hun 😘
The temptation over those boas is...so real. They’re gorgeous and I live so close to NC (northeast TN border) 😫 I am moving up there some time next year, though, and would love to be able to pick up a new scaley buddy from y’all when I have the room
GoHerping I’m going to school in NC as a Wildlife Biology Major with a focus in Herpetology so I’d also love to do some kind of volunteering when I move up there if I have the time, if you guys would ever need it ☺️
Such beautiful snakes! Love your videos. You're a wonderful person for offering your time to animals in need.
I actually sent an email to Emerald Scales the other day. :)
So are you allergic to hognose venom?
“Hognoses are a burrowing animal” can you tell mine that please? All she bloody does is climb her logs and then stare out of her vivarium doors as if she is waiting for her husband to come back from the war.
She'll never let go.
ohhhh the drama of it all!
I just thought of something. Next time she does it, play "My Heart Will Go On" recorder version for all of the feels.
If you use an under tank heater check that its not too hot :)

Hognoses are such stupid adorable little snakes mine was trying to be intimidating but it didnt work because his name is Spork
this 10/10 made my day
this makes me want a hognose more.
HIS MOTHER WAS A FORK AND HIS FATHER WAS A SPOON
S P O O R K
Hahaha no lie. I have a male albino western hognose, named Squirt. 😂
I wish I could have one, they are illegal where I live but they are legal in a province that’s 2 hours away lol so silly
That hognose was legit just straight up trying to eat you. I've never seen a hognose try to eat a person before. That hognose is like the chihuahua of the snake world. Lmao
I have legit never encountered a hognose that either tried to bite me or someone else or actually bit me or someone else (really tried to, not just bluff strike). What was the owner doing? Jebus.
Maybe the gloves smell like mice? Watching the male chew, that was a full on feeding response.
I think they've just developed an association between cage being opened and food. Like they haven't been handled at all. If there are toads in the room, the smell of that might also make them think there's food.
Could be that the owner didn't handle them much and only interacted with them during feeding time. They then associate hands with food. The musking and playing dead also deters others who don't realize that handling can be beneficial. It can be fixed with consistent handling though
Yeah I was wondering the same thing...like damn, what's up with that feeding response???
@@CowInAKeyhole Alex does in fact have toads
"Don't worry, the car is driving itself"
Oh yeah, that makes me feel better
ikr, what is this witchery? 🤨
I mean, it probably drives better than most people. So yeah, I wouldnt worry
It's the Tesla autopilot feature
It’s fine. My dad has a Tesla (from what I can tell, the same exact model, color, and even interior as his) auto drive is not as scary as it sounds. It only works on high ways right now, it can change lanes, slow down and speed up but not by much. It’s fine :)
Fr I came to the comments to find a comment like this
My last boyfriend broke up with me because "three geckos is to many" sorry but if someone says they love you but will break up because they think your hobby is "too weird" they don't deserve you.
unless your hobby is like mutilating small animals or something but your point definitely stands
That is the shittiest excuse to break up with somebody. Good riddance.
I have 7 animals 3 are reptiles and I still find it too little I need more! If my ex bf ever said that he’d be gone in a minute. But he loved my animals 😔
I was going to comment that if you want to be with me, you better not be scared of reptiles or tarantulas because you might be sharing a home with them... luckily I have a husband that tolerates my slight obsession with exotics, but if I was on the market that would be up there with life goals and morals....
Zie SpiralOut I have an older sister and her friends come over and they’re always intrigued in my animals, I always tell them they might feel a little squeeze from my snakes and how to properly handle it. I also tell them not to panic or freak out because it’s stressful for the person and the animal. If I find them being extra and freaking out for no reason they’re gone and they’ll never be able to handle them just watch them from a distance. I don’t tolerate that nonsense in any of my animals.
You are the worst salesman ever 🤣🤣
"This snake is ok, I don't like them though."
"This snake is nuts, I don't know why anyone would want one"
"Are these snakes for sale? Yes. But you're weird if you buy one" lmao I died
That just makes me want them more.. talking about a couch or something? Meh. A derpy snake? Hell yeah
“Don’t worry, the car is driving itself”
Wow just flexing on us
Is he old enough to have a license???
Jerry Boics Idk if you’re joking or not but he graduated from high school.
Can people even buy a self driving car now? How did he get one? Or can ppl rent them now or something.?
ᎷᏗᏒᏦᎥᏋᎷᏗᏒᏦᏉᎥᎥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ It's not 100% self driving. In those type of cars, the auto drive mode is used on highways since it doesn't requires much maneuvering apart from speeding up and slowing down.
@@IntergalacticSpaceKitten he gets money from UA-cam for his videos (subscribers, viewers, likes etc) and $5 per member.
kind of unusual actually that the hognoses are biting, and it looks like feeding response bites. They were probably underfed.
Yeah it sure looks like it but I think its more to try and bite with thoes back fangs, or both.
@@kagehikari4281 right, but hognoses typically only "chew" on things they think are food. Neither of the snakes are showing defensive behavior (very obvious in hognoses) so I'm pretty sure this is a feeding response.
I thought the same exact thing
erintheunready Agreed; feeding response. They are just so darn cute you almost don’t care if they’re munching on you. I love mine! To avoid being munched, I feed him a pinky every 4 days (he’s not quite 4 months old), and handle him every day.
@@jesusbeloved3953 mine usues his mouse as a pillow for a while before he decides to eat.. it is cute
"Don't worry, the car is driving itself" The.. the fact this is a thing that can be said in all seriousness nowadays makes me feel very hopeful and very amused for the future
I have driving, So I'm just hoping self driving cars become the norm in the near future haha
Isn't that a 'conda morph hognose?? :D the black belly and bigger saddles I think are the tells, emily @ snake discovery has been breeding a bunch of them lately! Awh all of them are just so dang adorable!
That's what I thought! Glad I'm not the only one who thought it might be a conda :D
It's a conda. I have one as well. Black belly & spots =conda :)
snake discovery!
i saw the spots too.
I thought they were condas too, I'm a big fan of snake discovery
The hognose isn't biting in an aggressive way. It's a feeding response. The boy is just hungry af! If it was aggressive and trying to defend itself, it would hiss and fake strike.
Sheytopia
Yeah hognose just come up and start swallowing! They don’t wanna chew on you. It brings them closer!
My first thought was a feeding response more than aggression/defensiveness too.
Like pissy the "cobra"
i am in no way an expert (never owned a reptile i just think they’re really cool) but based on what i’ve seen on snake discovery’s channel that hognose didn’t seem aggressive to me and more like he thought you were food. from what i can tell they tend to be very hissy and flatten themselves out when angry and usually only bluff strike so i’m pretty sure that one was just trying to eat you because it thought you were food. (most people probably know more than me so please correct me if i’m wrong)
Haven’t gotten to that point in the video yet (browsing comments) but my python struck the other day and I think she thought I was food as well. She did not seem stressed after or before.
I thought it was goin "om nom nom new hooman I taste om nom taste good I keep nom my finger now" and was like aaaawwwwwweeeeeeeeee
Yup the chewing is feeding thing. My boy hisses and flatens and has not bitten so far. He is a chill eater too. He will sit in my hand and eat the mouse off the floor of his viv..
I’ve had a hognose for 19 years and I’ve only been bitten 3 times. 2 of the times because he thought I was food and he was hungry. I would say they tend to be pretty mild if you hold them consistently. My little dude still gets angry when i open up my cage, flattens out hisses exc but i just pick him up and hes totally fine like he wasnt throwing a fit a second ago
You're right. That was a very hungry baby. Mine was like that as a hatchling too but he grew out of it after a few months of learning what his food would always smell like. When they're defensive they're sass queens, not biters. As for burrowers, doesn't matter, he is constantly on the move as it is so I almost always see him busy doing something in his enclosure.
"columbian boas are just okay I guess"
proceeds to get 7 more of them.....
"Are they for sale? Yes they are, but you're weird if you buy them."
The salepitch of the century right here. ^
I died 😂
R.I.P
I hate it when people justify feeding live food to snakes by saying that they do that in the wild. Like, so do wolves and yet we don't make our dogs chase down their food and kill it. Snakes live longer in captivity for a reason.
some snakes, especially hatchlings, need to eat live especially ball pythons.. it's very different than our dogs being sent out to hunt down rabbits on the what, urban street we make them live on lol? i know feeding live is sad but it is usually fairly humane and has to be done sometimes. it's not that bad if you're just feeding pinky mice to lets say hatchling balls
@@BoglimWrangler666 Maybe the hatchlings then, if they absolutely have to, but I think it's unnecessarily cruel to feed live just cause or just in case. It can also be harmful for your snake as an adult prey can defend themselves, which is enough big reason to not do it imo. It's not a better option than feeding pre-killed prey.
Some people think live feeding is better because it's "natural". Well so would it technically be for dogs chasing large prey in the woods. That's why I compared them. Dogs living in urban surroundings is no different to snakes living in glass tanks.
@@BoglimWrangler666 There is a difference between "having to feed live because your snake is such a picky eater, it won't take frozen for now, it has lost weight, it is sick, whatever, you have to get it to eat or it will die, so you have to pick live food" or "I feed live because it is more natural and the snake/I enjoy(s) it more".
Second is the most often told "reason" why people choose to feed live. And this is unnecessary.
@@zeryfcollection Well, u dumb so I guess we're even.
Its not cruel, its natural, can't handle it don't own them, some people like feeding live (like myself) there's no wrong way
The dedication in this man. Literal snake fangs in his finger and he keeps talking
Emma if you like that look up the footage of a snake munching on Steve Irwins neck while he just continues like nothing is wrong.
I THINK
He needs more subs
He found out right after that bite that he’s seriously allergic to hognose venom and went to a hospital 😂
And the fact that we now know he is allergic. Dedication
@@tonyflamingosucks6590 oh this was the one!

I adore the subtle rainbow sheen on the rainbow boas! They’re lil holo sneks!

Should call him Nibbler or something (From Futurama)
"...they don't lay eggs but they just shoot the babies right out..." Thanks for making snort my drink lol
Omg those little hog faces with a mouthful of glove 😂😍 stinking adorable.
You had me when you said, "Then they're all ready to jump into life. Whew yeah." 🤣🤣🤣
Isn't the female hognose a conda morph? I could be wrong but it seemed like it to me.
The male is as well. Less spots and a black belly.
My normal het albino has a pitch black belly
@@charlielovessara Well that's pretty neat. It's just most of the time, condas have a cleaner black belly than normals, which tend to have more speckling in the black. But you can also tell the male's a conda by the clean white line on the sides of its belly.
That’s what I was thinking. I was just looking through the comments to see if anyone else noticed it.
Sam Hope I thought so too because of the black bellies and big spots
That looks like a feeding response. He’s hungry!
"Jump into life, oh yeah". You're hilarious
"youre werd if you buy them" *snake discovery has joined the chat*
"it's a hognose."
*zoom in on hognose ALREADY biting him*
I went dumpster diving because of you and found a pretty nice hide :)
Cool
“don’t worry the car drives its self” such a flex 😂
O can assure you hognoses are not normally like that I have two hogs and with regular handling I have not seen that behavior this is most likely from feeding the snake but not handling now it thinks things are food
Michael bonj usually hogs are like that lol, they usually don’t bite but they are fussy af
I’d like an axolotl update please and thank you
The only pet snake I've ever had was the sweetest Columbian Rainbow Boa ever, Sugar. I was always terrified of snakes, but my dad being the reptile lover he was, surprised me with a baby boa when I was 8 years old. I had never even held one until that day, after he told me to close my eyes and hold out my hands. The initial shock was quickly overshadowed by the instant connection I had with her, and could somehow feel the affection she had for me. I quickly became a fan of snakes and she never once bit anyone that held her. I had her for almost 7 years before my parents divorced and dad took her with him (my mom hated reptiles,so Sugar and my Savannah monitor had to go). That snake was 1 of my best friends, and if I ever get the chance to have another, it will more than likely be another Columbian Rainbow Boa. It's so awesome what you do by helping these animals find new homes! ❤

My hog nose is out and about all the time and is very friendly. He was a rescue as well
YAY SNAKEYS!!! I just got a new ball python from former owners and she is seven years old and it’s only been a few days but I love her bunches!!
On the way back via the store for clippers haha love the story telling in your videos . Truly keep us captivated. I'm going to take some story telling times for my content
Omg that blue eyed Lucy is beautiful I’m saving up for one rn for when I move out so I can get my first snake 😁
That rainbow boa has iridescent scales, that is so awesome!
You should really upload like 2 videos a week it doesn't have to be super interesting videos just like how the animals are doing or setting up an enclosure for a new animal or your quarantining process, I just love your vids and your love for animals
That poor hognose has a messed up food response. It thinks it can eat your finger.
Can we just acknowledge how great Alex looks? :) He looks so grown up now!
I love hognoses even when they are pissy. They're just so adorable.
This snake isn't "pissy", it has a feeding response. It was probably only interacted with for feeding. And now thinks that every interaction means food is coming.
Pissy is a term used to describe hissy, spunky, and defensive hognoses, regardless of the reason, the trend was started by exotic layer, I wasn't referring to this specific hognose as pissy, nowhere did I say this specific hognose is pissy. I was just saying that I love them even when they are pissy, due to the snake being adorable.
I'm getting a Rainbow boa this year! I'm really excited, boas and rainbow boas are my favorite snakes!
I’m only a teenager but I would love to do what you do. Like rescue and rehome reptiles. Love it :)
I love how u were like 😐...its a hognose...and it was just constantly chewing and biting ur hand😂🤩its so cute

that hognose was the most anticlimactic thing ever. I couldn't stop laughing.
The babies just shoot right out! I knew that even harmless snakes had SOME kind of weapon.....
No the *mOvE lIkE a SnEk* out
Hognoses are my all time favorite reptile breed. I've wanted one for 3 years now and I just got one for Christmas. A 6 month old male Het Axanthic Purple Line. His name is Gilligan and he's a very dramatic and feisty little boy but he's finally grown comfortable with me and he's the most adorable Lil guy I've ever seen. He has such a big personality, I love him v much
Seeing Alex try to explain live birth is not something I expected to see today, but it is exactly what I needed for a laugh 😁
We got a hognose from LLL, which we were nervous about because their reviews used to not be great but we had a wonderful experience with them. We wanted a grumpy one, he is never grumpy and he actually comes out very frequently on most days.
My hognose is the exact opposite of those. She's never, NEVER shown any of the hognose attitude. Never hissed, never bluff stuck, never bitten, and never played dead. I was really lucky to get my little angel ❤️
Those hognoses are trying to eat you.
Also at least you know they're good eaters since they are willing to eat any thing including your fingers.
GoHerping: Hognoses are really cute *is currently being eaten by one*
Nice :')
My hognose only burrows at night
It's quite cute in the morning when the heat kicks on and wakes him up, then a few minutes later you see his little face poke out of the ground
Why must you post when I have to be asleep by now lol now I have something to watch while I'm supposed to be working woohoo

God I love hog nose snakes. Tiny little jerks!
You can actually use your shoe laces to break zip ties. First insert a shoelace under the zip tie and pull both ends tight and start rubbing. The friction of rubbing the shoelace back and forth breaks it.
The only time I wish I lived in the US, I adore that white ball python. Would adopt it in a heartbeat if I could
The little nom nom hog nose is soooo cute😍

Lol, if it makes you feel better, I was born in New Zealand and you can’t own any snake there!...I live in Scotland lol
I want a hognose soooo bad. The cute little upturned nose, the puffy cheeks, the huffiness all bundled up into a squishie noodle aaaah but Australia is like "No exotic reptiles!"
Apparently there was a boa constrictor shed somewhere in Camden I kind I want to go looking for in and just keep it and hide it from the cops lol
same iwant a leachie
I just got a baby hognose and he's so sweet. Even though he's only 3mo, he didn't get huffy or anything the first time I picked him up. The breeder handled him a lot and everything so I got lucky :)
I just moved to your general area and once I get my own place and car I’m absolutely adopting an animal from you guys!
That hog nose that was just munching was so cute.
My baby corn snake shed for the first time yesterday !!
I like the conda morphs with the hognoses. I think I prefer those to the normals. They're both so tiny.
I have 3 Western Hognoses. An albino, albino superconda, and superconda. All males. They are super sweet and don't strike or bite. Lucky me. The less you handle them the more wild they get if they had a spicy attitude to begin with.
I am one of those weirdos who likes the hognose lol. My boy is always on the move and takes great pleasure in climbing his branches or sleeping on the side of the enclosure. Much like the hognose in this video my boy was always biting things, mostly me. But this is due to just really liking food, as most hognoses seem to, particularly the younger ones. They try to eat all the things. He has definitely calmed down and now really only gets mad when I try to remove him from his space, but once he is out everything is okay again. For a burrowing species the hognose is very active, the younger ones especially. With enough repetition however they can become very docile and easy to handle.
I’ve been dreaming of getting a blue eyed leucistic python for years now. They’re so gorgeous
Victoria Strickland
I’m getting one as soon as hubby will agree. He wants fish; not much different! (I need to add to my snake collection.)
I want the blue eyed Lucy!!!!! Can’t wait until she’s available!!!!!
Oh I forgot. You have a conda-morph western hognose! That's what the black belly and more spaced out pattern is. If anyone wants these, they're fantastic. If you breed two condas together, you get a superconda. They're gorgeous!
Ok I love Hognoses they are my favorite not all of them are grumpy it really depends on how much you handle them and how they have been treated in the past like most animals.
I love your sense of humor. I actually laughed out loud at this one..."You just stick your finger in and see which one bites you." 😂😂😂
Out of this world for the clippers this evokes the unex planetary in my laboratory of chillllllll what a smooth ride. Im into it
the male hognose baby was a conda (anaconda) morph it gives them less spots on top and an all black belly

Omg I love hog nose snakes! I can’t afford a snake (thanks student loan debt) but maybe in the future!
8:53 your new hognose is hungry. Some are picky eaters, may not eat frozen/thawed but will likely love a live pinky mouse.
Those hognoses aren't being defensive, that is a feeding response and most of them don't have that issue though your pair is not the first i have heard of that happening, especially in animals that are rarely held. They start to assume all interactions with people mean food and try to eat everything. They also don't exactly burrow underground. They dig out toads from small holes but they aren't subterraneum themselves. You will also find that when tame, they don't play dead, they don't false strike, they don't hood up and they don't musk. But they do sometimes try to uh... flirt with people by snuggling. Hopefully you get to work with a handled hognose soon so you can experience the joys of them, which is most of them. Thank you for pointing out that there is still debate on if they even count as having real venom or just vestigial features resembling it with an irritating saliva because I see way too many people state they have venom when the scientific literature with the exception of a single retracted paper says otherwise... at most the conclusion is "no way to know when the line is this blurry, but definitely not a danger to humans"
