Gold finches are one of my favorite birds. I grow zinnias every year. The gold finches love eating the seeds. There so fun to watch! keep up the good work. thanks for sharing
These little guys are surprisingly easy to attract. We live in an established townhome community. I hung a finch feeder with a Nyjer seed blend from our front tree and within about a week and a half, once the tree fully bloomed, had two mated pairs of goldies that would come in.
I feed them shell sunflower seeds in the “song birds essential, clingers only feeders.” They are so sweet and cute. They keep their feeding area clean. You are right, the Jays are predators and I have chase the Jays away.
I just saw one across my neighbours sunflower lawn and wondered what kind of bird it is. I was curious and looked up the name, what a beautiful golden finch!
I live in Southeastern Pa and for years have had goldfinches at my feeder, sometimes as many as 20 or more. One day in early summer there were about 8 of them and the next day none. The nijer is fresh and and there is also black oil sunflower available. In addition they are always on my red salvia and I grow branched sunflowers which they love. What Happened??
Sad to hear Blue Jays attack these little cuties. Last time i saw them was by my Barbaur Shop 2 years ago. it was a tree with flowers and berries, I walked by it 16 of them flew by me so fast i fall back looking in amazement saying what a wonder way to start my morning.
Did you know that the Eastern Goldfinch poops over the side of it's nest? We just did a presentation in class about the New Jersey State Bird and we all found that highly fascinating. 🤌
I love Gold finches so much. They are my favorite birds. They used to come to my bird feeder.
