Sorry to hear you lost some of the chic's I do hope you don't lose any more this season, your birds look nice and healthy so like you I am keeping my fingers crossed, thank you for the updates I look forward to seeing how your birds progress, thanks for sharing and stay safe and keep well.
Wow ollie those canaries are stars this breeding season, such a shame with the redpolls but you did all you could mate so hopefully they will go again, fingers crossed for goldfinches, those siskins chicks are beautiful, see you tonight
Nowt ever straight forward with the British Oliver,I'm one of the lucky ones with redpolls,I've got quite a few on sticks and more in the nests.fingers crossed yours come good 👍
Hi, thanks I will try it! On average probably 30mins to an hour, which involves changing drinkers, giving eggs food, checking nests etc. I try to not disturb them too much this time of year so won’t spend excessively long period of time in there
🙏We always appreciate the help and I lost my favorite hen as well from egg binding..love your hey that's bird keeping attitude, hearing you helped me keep pushing on
Love watching your videos mate, you’ve inspired me to start keeping birds again after quite some years. Bird room is now complete and I have 8 new double breeder cages all empty. Heard there’s a sell on at Stafford this month? If so is there likely to be any British or canaries for sale this early in the year. Thanks, Shane
Hi Shane, great to hear you’re starting up again. There’s a sale next Sunday at Stafford, however to my understanding it’s a more parrot based sale than finches etc with parrot display aviaries. I’d recommend coming to the show in October, you will be able to pick up young bird bred this season there!
Hello. Roughly how many days old does the hen start potentially plucking feathers from the chicks? I want to get ahead of it in case it happens in my own bird room
Hi I’m wondering if it’s because the bramling lost its leg why the eggs are clear, I’ve got a male zebra finch that lost half his leg and he always has clear eggs too. Maybe they cannot get a good tread.
Yes I believe so, I’ve seen him trying to mate with her but wasn’t sure if it was successful. However I’ve also got a mate redpoll with a missing foot who’s fillers numerous eggs this season, so who knows
Love watching your videos! Out of interest, do you have or need to heat your bird room? I keep trying with the idea of making an aviary/bird room to keep a handfull of cockatiels and budgies but i dont want them to get too cold in winter time as its not always kind in rural Derbyshire countryside!
After watching this, I have to ask if you have any night lights in your bird rooms, I seem to think this is the second time you've had night fright due to adverse weather, this season?
I’ve not got any in at the moment, this is the first time this season that they’ve been scared off the nest, last season I had a redpoll hen come off the nest leaving some hybrid chicks cold. I’m unsure whether I might light would be the correct thing to do, as I think there’s a larger risk causing birds to moult in breeding than the long term benefits. I’m going to give it a trial run and do some research
@OCAVIARY I only had a single low watt pygmy bulb in a 10 x 6ft shed, just enough light for a bird to find a perch or nest, rather than spend the night on the floor
Hi could you please tell me how to treat canary have air sac mite . They breathing heavily. Using medicine and without using medicine please. Thank you very much.
disasters like you are experiencing are common with natives. Anyone can breed canaries but natives need seclusion and need to feel secure. Birds of all type rarely lay less than full clutch and/or hatch just 1/2 chicks if the preparation is correct. importantly, the birds must be 100% fit to start or you will never catch up.
You've got to show the Twite hen, she's a stunning bird. I think you would do really well with her on the show bench. Hope you show them 2 Siskin mule chicks.

I have looked for the cages that you have and there is nowhere to sell them here in the USA🙁
What do you feed the Goldfinches daily? Diet has a key role in breeding Goldfinches.
I’m giving them a basic British mix, a deli nature Health seed, egg food, Germinated seed and a small amount of live food

Hi, it’s something you would need to treat with a source of medication. Theres a few options like S76 and Tylan
Thanks
