I'm developing a presentation for my retirement community and after seeing this, think I'll just show it rather than spend 45 minutes talking! It is concise, accurate, and complete. Thanks!
I’m in Indiana and spent my summer battling Leukemia, so I’m late getting my feeders out. Within the first day a female RTH showed up and now days later it’s become very territorial shooing off two others constantly. It’s hilarious. It stays perched on a tiny branch all day, with almost bloodshot eyes, waiting for another bird to come near it’s feeder! I’m going to put another feeder in the front yard.
I don't see Colorado on the map. I lived in Bailey, Colorado at 9,500 feet above sea level, and I got the ruby red-throated hummingbirds every year, also had the rufus (orange) hummingbird come around at the end of the season. They used to have fights at the feeders everyday. Probably had about 20-30 of them. They are so much fun to watch. A wonderful creation of God. Their flight capabilities are truly amazing. I have seen them do the dive that is around 60mph, and I've seen them out in a middle of a hail storm and severe lightening and it didn't even faze them. I have watched them fly even upside down. Such an amazing bird.
It appears I have a Ruby throated one, that's trying to run the rest of the others off!! An aggressive bunghole!! He lands ALL the time, apparently looking for other ones trying to come in for a drink.
Haha! That sounds about right! Your description gave me quite the chuckle. These little ones are pretty dang territorial and defend a good feeding spot. You have a feisty one on your hands!
@@AnimalFactFiles Yeah we do!! We doesn't play around...the white and green ones are the other ones trying to get drinks, and he comes in and terrorizes them!! Is that females? He's got a black head, and red throat...and he IS tiny...I guess he has little man complex.
Migratory information would be more helpful. What night time temperatures can humming birds tolerate? I am kind of thinking that when night time temperatures seem to stable, around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it may be time to put out the feeder.
There’s hummingbirds that look just like this all around my house in Oregon! We refill our hummingbird feeder constantly because they stop by so often haha. They’re so sweet and beautiful🥺
Aww, thank you so much! If you need more information there are plenty of links in the description. Best of luck to you and please let us know how it goes! We believe in you!!
Hey there !! New subscriber… your video caught my attention because as a bird photographer I just saw my first humming bird up close !!!! They were extremely tame and allowed to get some Beautiful shops… no males though!?!? Would u know when the males are around the Berkshires MA, or upstate NY area!? They’re are sooooo cool and bad ass territorial lol!
They can be super territorial it's amazing to see them flitting about! Here's a map that might help you know when they're in your area: www.hummingbirds.net/map.html Thanks for watching!
I live in California. I have hummingbird feeders out and several have 3 throats. They are very aggressive and chase off others. Any tips on how to prevent this? We have several trees that they perch in. Cannot remove their stake outs.
Hummingbirds are just going to be this way naturally, however some tips I've heard are to add more feeders (especially during months of higher activity) and to space feeders out more (sometimes even making certain feeders out of the line of sight of other feeders). Sounds like a lively yard! Best of luck! 😊
I live is Southern Idaho at the moment, and I have the hummingbirds with the black heads at my feeder every year. I have also had the pleasure of seeing the hummingbird moth, very cool!
What did you learn about the ruby-throated humming bird in today's episode? We've discussed the hummingbird moth which looks like a hummingbird but is actually an insect! You can check that out here 👉 ua-cam.com/video/puTy8flcQMY/v-deo.html

I have three feeders out, and around 1/4 acre of wild flowers.
I love watching them. I’m convinced that all they do is eat and chase each other.
Hummingbirds are so cool!
Agreed! I think they're some of my favorite birds to watch.

The females usually don't have the bright red throat, so that's how you can tell them apart. He might be chasing away everyone in that case!

0:36 bread 👍🏻
🍞
The video is cool but the feeder was disgusting. The fungus around the feeder will kill hummingbirds.
Yes unfortunately people don't seem to know all the best ways to keep hummingbird feeders - they're a lot more work than they would seem!
I wonder what they taste like
The souls of unicorns probably

Never use a wire close hanger to make a perch on your feeders that don't have a perch!!!!!!!!! Ask me why....
