    The emergence above the cloud layer at 11:40 is just beautiful, this is what I love about flying. BOO to those who sit by the window, close the blinds and miss out on this type of wonder.

      I am freaking scared of heights, so I will not be looking out the window whenever I fly.

      +noel stoehr guess what. im a student pilot and I fly planes. but the catch? I'm afraid of heights :)

      noel stoehr I think it's cause we are in like a closed platform and not anything open.

      I've been flying for decades. I can't even watch a movie scene of guys fighting on a roof. I think our fear is of falling, not heights.

    At 13:14 You know you are passing 10000ft because the pilot gave two attendant attention pings and you can see the wing landing lights retract. Awesome video.

    I was worried about the right aileron until it finally laid down well into the takeoff roll.

    Will be booking a flight from Boston to Fort Myers In a month or so and will absolutely pay extra to get a connection through Atlanta to fly on the MD88. Won't be around for more than another year or so. The last real "golden age" aircraft still in service.

    • @MD88Pilot
      @MD88Pilot 8 років тому

      that's what makes me cry in my head sometimes. the MD88 was the first plane I flew on besides a 172. It's my dream to pilot one. but my dream will never come true. I really hope there will be people who still seel them in the future. I really hope I can get money to buy my own, but it won't happen. she is a beautiful bird.

      I'm pretty sure you will be able to in some of those airlines that simply love the bird and will keep them for more years.. there are MD-80's from the 1999's so plenty of airframe life.

    • @justinmiller5280
      @justinmiller5280 7 років тому +2

      Juan Gil Both Delta and American plan to have them retired by the end of next year if I'm remembering correctly. Those are the last carriers in America to fly them.

      Justin Miller In north america you mean. I live in Venezuela, we have around 5-8 regional airlines. Laser Airlines, Aserca Airlines, Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela Airlines, SBA airlines, Conviasa Airlines. Guess what ? they all have MD-83's hahah, only exception it's Conviasa.

    I once flew MidEx from MKE-ATW in an empty(there were 7 Pax) DC-9. I watched a college basketball game with the F/O in the lounge while we waited for the Capt to arrive on a deadhead. Anyhow...I did the pre-flight with him and was sitting in cockpit when the he finally arrived(obviously pre-9/11). We talked flying for a minute and he simply said "This will be a quick flight". It was 11:30Pm when we rocketed out and up to 12k in about 2 min. Wheels up to wheels down was 19 min. Pilots will often want to "punch" through known icing at lower levels as quick as possible, so will conduct a max thrust take-off so they can get above the freezing clouds.

    Nice video! Is it just me, or did it seem like an awfully long engine run-up once they took the active (8:20)?

    Look at the repair on that inlet. It looks like crap. Retire this plane

    • @Tigerwarhawk
      @Tigerwarhawk 6 років тому +5

      Why? Because of the look of a repair? This old, reliable MD-88 still makes money for Delta. If I had the choice of taking the 320, 737, or MD narrowbody, I'll choose the MD anyday.

    • @adventures8977
      @adventures8977 6 років тому +4

      Tigerwarhawk I like that the MD has a 2X3 seating arrangement.

    • @HEDGE1011
      @HEDGE1011 6 років тому +6

      murdamechanik Unless you hold an A&P license, your opinions about the cosmetics of an airplane repair are irrelevant.

    • @gerardmoran9560

      Retire a well maintained jet because a bird or rock hit the inlet lip? No.

    • @thecaynuck4694
      @thecaynuck4694 3 роки тому +1

      That's not a reason to retire a plane.
