I decided to use The Gazette's "Best Of" results so as to not show impartiality/bias on my part. That said, I often question how many of their winners always seem to come out on top, year after year when I know personally there are better restaurant choices here locally to pick from...Popularity contest?
Ted's has great salsa.......that's about the extent of my love for Ted's. And to add they opened up a spot directly across from BTT on 23rd. I thought that was rude.
Agreed. The Garage was rubbish. I've been meaning to get to Bad Daddy's in Norman. I went to one of their locations in NC and loved it. Talk about great burgers. Just don't go there if you care about your figure 🙂
@@HOMEINOKLAHOMACITY that shouldn't be a consideration for 'the best burger' that should just be the best burger. The Garage isn't even a close second.
My wife and I have fallen in love with OKC! Our Son lives close by in the Medicine park area. Just a beautiful area as I’m sure you know. I’m a chef here in Maine but considering coming to OKC as we are about to become grandparents.
Sounds great! Congratulations on the soon-to-be new addition to the family. If you decide to move here, I know a good realtor : ) When the time is right, call me! I'd love to help you find a new home here...
Love it! I moved here in February 2024 from SoCal (don't judge) and was a little worried about the food but I have been so pleasantly surprised! I agree with many of these, especially Clark Crew BBQ which is right by my house. The only miss here is Ted's. It wasn't bad, but there is way better. Try Abel's in Warr Acres on 50th and McArthur or El Labor de la Baja on May and 10th. Both are excellent! Other great spots are Cal's Chicago Eatery, Providence and Rendezvous Pizza, Redrock Canyon Grill, Whiskey Cake, Iron Star Urban BBQ, Hawaiian Bros BBQ.
Outside of the sushi and seafood recommendations, this is the worst list of OKC restaurants I’ve ever seen. People who voted for these places are the same people who crowned Taco Bell “America’s best Mexican food”.Anybody who voted on this still thinks Red Lobster is fine dining.
Yes, in some ways I tend to think that, unfortunately, these annual "Reader's Poll" results are nothing more than a popularity contest and a lot of the best places to dine are left off the list as a result...
That's a great list. I can't argue with any selection except one. Cattleman's is the most overrated steakhouse in OKC. I've tried it multiple times, and have been underwhelmed each time. I can think of 5 steakhouses off the top of my head that I would choose before I would resort to them.
That's true. Texas Roadhouse or Logan's Roadhouse matches or surpasses Cattlemans Steakhouse. Even Santa Fe Cattle House is good for the money. Personally I think Cattlemen's is living on their reputation that in my opinion is no longer applicable.
There's no shortage of good to great Mexican restaurants and hamburger joints but Howard's burgers in Nichols Hills was king of burgers in the 80s. If you're hungry for a consistently good European style sub sandwich Napoleon's in Midwest City is a must try. The original founder retired about 13 years ago and under their (husband and wife) management they were at another level but they're still darn good. Try the #1 Emporor and you won't be disappointed. I warned the new management to never mess up that sandwich or they'd go out of business. Napoleon's Deli has survived moving from near Reno and Meridian to Midwest City and then two more moves within Midwest City. Most places couldn't survive changing locations that drastically.
Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion. There's a lot of great restaurants out there that do not win the Gazette's annual "popularity contest", i,.e "Best of" list that people should know about. Thanks for the head's up!
As an OKC native and someone who loves good food and has had some of the best cuisine across the US and world, this list is laughable. Cattlemens being best steak might be the biggest joke on this list
I actually agree. For some reason (colorful history?), it won the Gazette's annual "Best of" popularity contest. Personally, I like Boulevard Steakhouse in Edmond! One of the best steaks I've ever had...
I’ve been to Clark Crew about 5 times. First two times were unreal. Best burnt ends I’ve ever had inside a restaurant. However after that it has fallen off a cliff! It pains me to say this but I hope the man himself can get the magic back before he opens the Tulsa location. When it was good, it could compete with the Texas restaurants. Please Travis, get this right!!!!!
I agree! I am a HUGE fan of Nic's. Not sure why they didn't win any awards. I agree that Cattlemen's is just meh....but visitors seem to like it a lot due to its location and colorful history I suppose...Thanks for the comment...
How did Cattleman's beat Ranch, Mahogany, or Red prime? It was THE worst restaurant steak I've ever had. The only time I've sent a steak back and didn't ask for a replacement. It was gray and looked microwaved.
Simple. The Oklahoma Gazette Reader's Poll has basically turned into a popularity contest. That and Cattlemen's colorful history...But I agree with you. The best steak I ever had in my life was at the Boulevard Steakhouse in Edmond...NOT...at Cattlemen's...
Just a reminder to everyone. The restaurants listed in the video are the winners of the Oklahoma Gazette's "Best of" annual poll. These are their restaurant winners by category, DEFINITELY not mine. and I agree with you on Ted's...I don't get what all the hype is about. I find it pretty mediocre as well as expensive...
Clark Crew is so overrated, there are much better BBQ joints just down NW Expressway. Smoked Out is memorable, Iron Star is good, but Joe Bawbs is a clear standout for BBQ in OKC.
I've had friends that were shocked at the quality of food here in OKC metro. Any cuisine from anywhere in the world is offered here and in good form. Great food everywhere.
edge craft bbq is by far the best and one of the best in the state. You have to go to Tulsa for bbq on the level of edge craft like 1907 bbq and oakhart bbq
I agree. Boulevard is my personal favorite. The Oklahoma Gazette Reader's Poll is now more of a popularity contest than anything else and not a true indication of the top restaurants in their various categories in OKC. Probably has to do more with the location and history of the place I suppose...Thanks for the comment!
The Garage? Really? I went to one and it was mediocre at best. Service was nothing to write home about and the burgers were very ordinary. The fries were cold too. Never went back. If that made the list, we are in bad shape.
I hear you...It helps to remember that the Reader's Gazette poll is really just a popularity contest when it comes right down to it. Lots of folks (myself included) think that Nic's probably has one of the best burgers in town...Thanks for the comment!
Ted's is not Mexican and is definitely NOT the best. Thank you for mentioning it's Tex-Mex. There are way better Mexican options like Taqueria Durango or Tacos San Pedro
A&T Garcias Mexican Restaurant was the best for many years located in the old Oklahoma City fire department training building off of California but sadly they sold and moved somewhere over by Borden's milk plant off of Broadway but I didn't even get to visit that location before they went broke I assume. It's a shame because no other Mexican Restaurant has even come close in my opinion.
Stay in OKC and you'll find 20 Mexican restaurants and food trucks better than Ted's. Any of the Chelino's locations. Casa Perico. El Fogon Del Edgar (Columbian). Trompudo's Taco's. Taquiera del Rey. The list goes on and on.
Oklahoma is the thrift store version of every other place you've ever been to. Everything is the penniless version of what you're expecting. Nothing in Oklahoma is worth the money you'll pay for it. The cost of living in Oklahoma is as bad as anywhere else now with a garbage economy, government, and infrastructure. One of the worst states ever.

Tacos don Nacho in South OKC is the best restaurant I've ever been to. Ted's is watered-down Mexican food for people who can't handle spicy foods.

At 11:40 he's talking about the Garage but showing the grill at Nic's. Nic's is by far the best burger in OKC.
