He was up on time. Technically he had a far better option after her Qxg8+ (instead of Rxg8, Rxg8+) of just Qf8, losing the queen but opening a path for the king.
@@Mr12Relic That's your perspective, looking on it in retrospective and spotting this idea (I haven't looked at whether it works or not since it's irrelevant to the point I was making). His perspective during the game is very clearly "oh damn I've lost".
I like these videos where you talk about your thought process during the game, because a lot of people who review chess games just talk more about moves and variations, rather than talking about how they actually think during a game.
He was trying to see if she had follow through. Masters know they can force you into a mistake, he wanted to see if she would follow through, as one mistake would have set her in a very nasty position.
Very well played, felt solid, never in trouble. He took it well, and gave the checkmate pleasure- easier to do with such a likeable and popular opponent, but good to see !
Congrats! That was an amazing sequence of moves you made for the checkmate! Glad to see you happy! Very nice of him to let you play it out for the actual mate. He seems so chill!
For anybody wondering about Qf8, I put this position in 3200 max rated robot (above super grandmaster level) and I still won. It would be 2 bishops and a knight against 2 bishops, a knight, AND 2 rooks. Victory in about 10 moves.
Thanks, I noticed the analysis engine saw some daylight instead of a forced mate, but it's nice to know that it requires you to defeat your opponent in a drinking game to win.
That was an outstanding performance by you Anna. You looked incredibly poised in this match, very well done. I have to say this was the best performance from you I've ever seen. This is how you need to play, poised and focused. You are very dangerous on the chess board when you play like that. It's how your mom plays so well, I've noticed.
I beat my mentor (my older cousin.. knows all my tricks ) with a forced check after losing hundreds of games to him. We sacrificed queens and I will never forget that win!
as far as i've seen, this is Anna's best game. it reminds me of Ding's win at the world championship against Nepo. it's thoroughly a victory. Anna has her mom's smile; she's very humble...i really appreciate both of them.
I beat the 2000 bot with an opening I haven't studied with some inaccuracies, feeling my way through multiple positions where only 1 move worked, setting up a powerful checkmate threat while they stole my rook, then I forked their queen and their necessary knight with a defended bishop, then they threw every possible piece into the grinding gears, but nothing stops this train. Review estimate 2350. I'm 1200 but high in puzzles.
I am so happy you posted a good game in which you win. It is interesting to watch all the games you post. Your defeats are always interesting and educational, but after a while they become disheartening. I'm glad to see you did so well here and won. Thank you for sharing.
This is a very special video. Thank you for sharing! Congratulations on the wins! It is so good to see 3 women win. I agree, if you have the same number of points, you are equal, but it is nice to have clear positions too. I am happy you did so well ❤❤❤.
As a complete amateur who’s actually bad at chess but enjoys watching, it’s great when the final sequence is played out. It makes chess more of a spectator game. All these endings where they resign 10 moves away from checkmate are like: well, you clearly see it play out, but I’d have to be 1000 elo better than I am to figure out why you think you’ve lost.
He seems like a pretty cool guy & took the loss in stride. To me, that’s the way it should be … opposed to tossing the board with all the pieces into the air

I think it always shows great character when people realise they've fallen for a tactic but still let you play out the checkmate :)

That's because he understands that playing it out is better content for youtube.

Late to this video and very new to chess. Why did he not take your knight with his rook when you put him in check. Instead he moved his king.
I've been trying to figure this out as well. I think it's because then she can take the rook at g8 with her queen, which is check mate.
