Troy, just want to say thanks for this lesson. Just bought it off of your site earlier today and it really has helped a lot! I'm playing a lap steel, but have it tuned to open G like a dobro. I will definitely be buying more of your lessons in the future. Thanks!
I’ve been playing guitar for about 6 years and I’m very interested in the dobro. I know there will be a learning curve but how similar/different is the guitar vs the dobro?
It's very different imho since it's open tuning, and using the steel is not left hand chord shapes but articulating each note with rocking and sliding in as new techniques. Maybe try a round neck with a pinkie slide and standard tuning, then you get a 'hybrid' - standard tuning and a slide. dobro sound mostly
You're using lap steel strings on the Dobro? That's cool. Now. Can you still tune to Open G and D? I like to play in open D a lot. Check out Mattbradford music on Instagram. Man he is crazy good. Plays only open D though.
Way to much explaining...wish you would make a short video showing chords. Make the chord and call it out. I think that would be great thanks!!! Opps wrong video...lol still I watched your chord video... slow and kinda boring. Come on. Make a kind of quick pace chord video! 😀
Music lessons, particularly in the learning stages of a new instrument, can seem horribly slow and silly. You're building a foundation for later, more complex skills. I like how he approaches this.
I really liked this whole video, but especially the banjo part.
Thanks for these great lessons.
Troy I would like to say this lesson opens up allot from the shapes n patterns chart {which i dissed at first} to the time taking up on vibrato A+++++
Got that ol' Ry Cooder sound !
GREAT Lesson! Really helps in my understanding of the fret board.

Great lesson, 7 minutes to learn how to go or down 2 frets from a chord. WOW!!!!
Thanks Mark! Glad you liked it!

I reminisce about a pork tenderloin sandwich from the sale barn...
Noob question. Few videos tell us what tuning the guitar is in. What is this tuning? This kind of music is what makes me want to play!
maccatele The tuning is 'Dobro' tuning= GBDGBD. He talks about it @ 6:50.
I got it...thanks ..I see what's going on now.
Nice lesson! What kind of tone bar are you using?

What string gauges are you using to hit that C tuning? My 16-56 won't go that low or high without flopping out or breaking
Hi Bobby, here are the strings I use: amzn.to/2qQyM0I

Oh, no. I'm not. But you mentioned C tuning. I thought you meant C6 tuning. I use these strings for Dobro in Open G tuning: amzn.to/2qQvpb0
Yeah, I should've read that closer. Sorry about that. :-)
Ah ok. My bad. I misunderstood you in the video. I thought you were tuned in C. But you said we are playing in the key of C. As in 5th fret. Hahaha.
What's the pad for under your hand over the resonator?
So you can see what he is doing. Taking the glare off the resonator, helps show the strings more clearly.
The link gives a 404 so was it removed?
