    Jerry Douglas also has an on-line streaming instructional course, The Resophonic Guitar with Jerry Douglas. This video is a part of that course where Jerry discuses the "role of the Dobro".
    In the course itself, Jerry covers the fundamentals of learning to play: Left Hand, Right Hand, Picking, Blocking as well as performance tips, gear preferences, and a tour of the mechanics of the resonator guitar with luthier Paul Beard. For more advanced players, Jerry also explores the nuances like the role of the Dobro in bands, classic Dobro licks you must know, jamming the Blues, backing a singer or soloist, and a performance/analysis section on how to play songs such as "The Cincinnati Rag" and "Fireball Mail". One of my favorite musicians, not just for ear and touch and the music itself, but for how well your playing always fits with others. Thanks for the licks rundown.

    Wow! Thanks, Jerry. I have enough guitars to use one in Dobro tuning and try out these riffs for the first time - ever. I discovered your Slide Rule album years ago and that's when i learned about you.

    Jerry: Thanks for sharing this pure gold. Between your crystal clear how-to and some recent encouragement from Tommy E, I detect a new purpose coming on here. Gotta Dobro up and git twangin'. 😎

    Complete novice Weissenborn player here, thoroughly enjoying the playing and the narrative, and looking forward to practicing these licks for myself. Cheers from the UK!

    Not just a great musician but what a historian of the instrument, these comparisons of style are great.

    El mejor músico profesional de Guitar Dobro, un día espero poder verle tocar en vivo... Disfruto verle tocar junto a Sam Bush, Bela Fleck y la leyenda Tony Rice. God bless you.
    Un saludo desde El Salvador

    I don't know how I got this far without seeing your channel but I'm on board now. I'm enjoying your JD Aura Imaging pedal (I love it - every reso player I talked to recommended it) and looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks, TW

    "throwing the bar" right? I learned using a peddle steel bar, I think weighed 2 lbs 🤔

    Interesting looking whammy bar. Does that raise and lower all strings like a Bigsby, or individual strings.?

      It's called a doubleshot tuning changer by hipshot to change between 2 tunings quickly without retuning old school method

    Hi my name is Dennis Fain. I am trying to learn how to play that steel no bro no bro anyway are they any? I know their books and some books of Bluegrass and country music using that but what I want to know I know you’re breaking it down to 4 foot threats and white strings to play. Thank you videos I would like to have a note, chart and white strings to play if there’s one out there somewhere or if someone can make one I would appreciate it very much to send it to me

    Is that a bending mechanism on the tailpiece of your dobro?

    • @josberentsen7374
      @josberentsen7374 2 роки тому +1

      It is a hipshot double piece, to flip to an other tuning.
