You can remove the antenna by moving the rubber on the bottom of the antenna and using a hex wrench. So many people are saying it cannot be removed without looking at the antenna really good.

Antenna is removable at the bottom of the antenna. That's a rubber band With a set screw.

The antenna IS removable... the appx 3/8" rubber sleeve at the base rolls/flips up or down and there's a small hex screw that needs to be loosened. Some models seem to have something like locktite on the sma male... but it does come off

Very nice budget friendly radio with good bells and whistles and being water resistant is an added plus.

How thick/deep is the base of the radio? Looks to me like you are carefully setting it on the table, similarly to how one would have to do with a UV5R to keep it from falling over.

Not any different than the UV5R but see my table top plastic there is ridged so you have to set them kind of carefully on the table or any radio will tip over its just a cheap plastic mat i use on top of the table

If it is no different than the UV5R, then that is what I am concerned about. The UV5R is hilariously teeter tottery, even without the taller battery. I finally found the TYT UV88 paired with their 3200mAh battery to make it thicker. Same with the UV390 with its thicker battery. And the Yaesu FT65R - also has a thick aftermarket battery. Those thicker batteries really help keep that toppling problem from happening all the time. I don't know what it is about these radio companies and making these things so thin that they topple over when you place them on a table. I guess I'll hold out for a while and see if Retevis makes a thicker battery before I get one. Obviously don't "need" a radio, but we all like new toys... Thanks for the review! @@Iridium242
