Incredible how things change over time. It's rare to still find a physical record shop these days, let alone one stocked with sick shirts like this one. Those Death shirts hanging on the wall and selling for 10 bucks now sell online for hundreds, sweat stains and holes and all!
2:49 I can't believe there are Death shirts just hanging on the wall back in the day. Those 3 shirts are extremely rare on the market nowadays! Especially the Leprosy as I am pretty sure that is a original and not the 1990 Blue grape reprint.
Wow look at all the vinyls and death shirts. I wish I could've grown up in the 90s. Surprised he didn't mention Sodom at a they were right behind slayer
Yeah, the late 80s and begining of the 90s were so great. Death Metal was fresh and when it became a little stale, Black Metal showed up. Sorry, didn't want to make you jealous :)
sodom was for me into old school band, like kreator second, old school bands are bests, helloween, savatage, pantera, rage, testament, nuclear assault, anthrax, slayer, Death Angel, obituary and many More..
Awesome. Great and interesting titles from one who is a bass god himself. The morbid bass god, the almighty David Vincent working at the original metal retail fortress or metal fortress maximus, the legendary Ace's Records. Hail David Vincent and Ace's Records.
I went in there loads of times back in the day and spoke to David. They also used to have giant German shepherds that walked around the store . Ace record's was a great place to bad it closed now.
@@assasinator1980 I see the merits in that opinion. It's the most cohesive album when listened to in a single sitting, it's faster and has better production. For me however, the song writing on Hell Awaits puts it above Reign In Blood. There's nothing on the latter album that can compete with Hell Awaits, At Dawn They Sleep or Crypts of Eternity.
I know reign in blood gets all the credit, but I think hell awaits is slayers best album. And possessed is a classic. And I also agree, that metal started with black sabbath, then motor head took it to another level. Also, venom, bathory, and Celtic frost, hellhammer were all very important to extreme metal. Good shit.
Absolutely agreed with “Hell Awaits” being Slayer’s best album, the combination of the production, the writing and arrangements make it just pound for pound the best Slayer output of all time for me.
Nice selection Dave! Two thumbs up for the Hell Awaits and Seven Churches selection. I’ve been recently listening to old school and newer Death, Thrash and Black Metal channel’s on Pandora and Spotify and I still think SLAYER’s Hell Awaits is the most brutal as I compare all of those albums. These old record stores were fun as hell to go into and collect from. We had Vintage Vinyl in St. Louis that I frequented all the time and in the mid to late 90’s they were unloading all of their record and tape selections for $1.00 I assume to free up space for CD’s. So I bought a horde of SLAYER, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Motörhead, Possesed, Metallica, Judas Priest, Blue Oyster Cult, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and more all on record and tape. And I still have all of them stashed away. The records were great because they basically doubled as a poster.
Ugghhhhh I want to time travel and get some vintage Massacre and Death shirts shown in the end and a lot of OG pressings of legendary display they have here!!! David has a great musik taste too my personal favorite Black Flag singer is Keith Morris but indeed Rollins was the more aggressive intense performers, Blacky was a pummeling bassist I’d have to agree especially in Killing Technology like in Ravenous Medicine love that tempo change interlude, it was killer the shoutout to Possessed- Seven Churchces rekord and of corpse Venom personally nothing tops Welcome To Hell and Black Metal as well as the shoutout to Sabbath is essential!!!
Saw the fatty at the last second of this video and recognised him, haha. It's Götz Kühnemund, former writer for german Rock Hard mag so this one was taken from one of the Rock Hard video mags they've putted out in the first half of the ninetees.
venom i like it very much but morbid Angel i love, soooooooooooooo kickass band, that i dont know other same, not even death in that case, morbid Angel forever!
The store David is doing this interview in is actually "ace's Records" if I'm not mistaken?... as he worked their for some time... I used to buy a lot of PLPs from them back in the day... and I got all slayer plps; early mercyful fate & king diamond...some Rare Morbid Angel stuff, etc,.etc... anyhow, though I like the early MA with Vincent( especially his bass playing skills) after covenant - I came to the conclusion MA died along time ago.
IMO, musically, the true MA died way back after mike browning left....that's not to say "Altars...up to Covenant" were not Amazing Albums...I just prefer Mike had been in the Band during those moments. I guess most can agree they should've stopped after "Covenant"?
No man, formulas and gateways are awesome records, after that i believe they should take off some time, but death metal bands do not have that luxury so Trey started to get tired of the whole death metal thing, they needed a brake
my influence was, this guy into Death metal, it can be album, blessed are the sick or covenant or domination, but blessed can real hard working in my Player, not Else album, maybe Death was second big influence, legendary band like morbid Angel..
Its cliche and dated but I'm born in the wrong generation i wish i was alive in the 90s and 80s to see the scene the current scene is depressing atleast we have bands like blood incantation reaching the charts and being popular and experimenting in a sea of copycat death metal bands
yeah, i think the same, actually i won't even be able to see my favorite bands live because they broke up or just the lineup changed so much that i don't like them anymore, that sucksss, basically all i like is from 80's and 90's
I don't know but i did stop listen death metal, i don't know but death metal wasn't ever even my genres, so i went back in my roots almost completely, so i don't listen anymore none gloomy bands, i listen anymore thrash metal and NWOBHM and glam metal and blues, my roots is blues, like Led Zeppelin and black sabbath, especially paranoid, paranoid is landmark a whole heavy metal, fuck possessed.
That looks like the best place on the planet. Anyone have a time machine?
I know dude, I'm practically drooling
Not yet :(
That was the Oldsmar flea market in Oldsmar, FL at Aces Records. I used to go there every weekend as a teenager.
Dude I wish
seems like every thing was great in the early 90s,
we need a record store like that one again.
I would kill to have one near my place It get's really annoying to order stuff online now a days
We have two like that near where I live. One focuses more on used stuff, the other on new stuff. Both great.
I'm old enough to have visited places like this. Heaven on Earth.
There’s a few stores that sell records near me but nothing like the one shown here
Incredible how things change over time. It's rare to still find a physical record shop these days, let alone one stocked with sick shirts like this one. Those Death shirts hanging on the wall and selling for 10 bucks now sell online for hundreds, sweat stains and holes and all!
Pretty lousy. But I'd pay good money for that Massacre shirt
Rare to find a physical record shop these days??? What the hell fo you live in Antarctica???
@@nachomagallanico Comment was 5 years ago my dude. Records have come back in a big way since then
@@Kerry_kit_slayer bro sorry but 5 years ago was 2019, and there were plenty of records shops all over the place.
David should've been a TV presenter! He was born for it
Seems like "Whats In My Bag?" by Amoeba in the past.
1:08 That copy of Seven Churches looks so glossy... so pristine.. I could mount that copy and bask in its beauty for ages. 😁
The lad walking past with his belly hanging out of the shirt 😂😂😂
When he went down the vinyl records and he said "Blackie" in front of the WASP section, I thought he was going to pull out one of their records! LOL!
2:49 I can't believe there are Death shirts just hanging on the wall back in the day. Those 3 shirts are extremely rare on the market nowadays! Especially the Leprosy as I am pretty sure that is a original and not the 1990 Blue grape reprint.
Blue grape. Blast from the past there
Guy in red influenced Vincent in his later life..
lmao
TOO EXTREME!
Man I miss record stores when bands showed up when they were in town.
The other people in the store are dressed like GTA npc’s… and David is one of the characters you can play
I dont like how you bent that Hell Awaits LP jacket, David...
yeah and then he slammed it in there with force, afterwrads
You guys better call Slayer!!
David Vincent talking about Voivod? Cool!
To have fucking David Vincent say that Henry is one of the most intense vocalists ever is really saying something…
This is one of my favourite videos ever.
Wow look at all the vinyls and death shirts. I wish I could've grown up in the 90s. Surprised he didn't mention Sodom at a they were right behind slayer

I'm surprised he didn't mention Death because the band was also a pioneering death metal band just like Morbid Angel
+bizzles44 i was 18 in 1992. I remember all this...
yes bro, I saw that white shirt..classic stuff
sodom was for me into old school band, like kreator second, old school bands are bests, helloween, savatage, pantera, rage, testament, nuclear assault, anthrax, slayer, Death Angel, obituary and many More..
This was before David became Van Helsing
What do you mean? 🤣

Definitely need more stores like this❤
Vincent and I both love Hell Awaits more than any other Slayer record. I feel proud in saying that.
+Lord Krius praise of death being the best slayer song
Pre-1986 Slayer is the best IMO.
Hell Awaits was and is the Heaviest Slayer album, but don't worry Reign in Blood is still the shortest in duration
I fkn love hell awaits!!

I would have LOVED to walk in that store there and then ❤
That dude in the red shirt needs a bigger shirt
Wtf
😂😂😂😂 Is he pregnant ?
yeah... what in the literal fuck? lol. that's some real 90's dad style right there
Reminds me of that episode from Family Guy with that pregnant woman who looks like a fat middle-aged dude...
RIPPING CORPSE HAT/ MORBID ANGEL SHIRT!!!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!
Great taste in music
Aces records!! i been there back in the early 90s!!!! such a sick record store🤘

Seasons In The Abyss is the best Slayer album
I second Seasons

Wise to do that; that stuff's quite expensive nowadays.

Nice shop and customers... BTW David could treat a little better the way he handles vinyl which isn't his and some customer is going to buy as new.
Metalmike 626 cringed reading this

Damn I need to be at that store
Beer drinking belly Bob and family!!!
Lol, those kids.
Kids always stare at long haired metalheads.
great taste!
Those are all good solid choices I would say.
I never forget seeing morbid angel in Wrexham north wales war memorial hall and David was like ok let’s do it 👊🏻
Good taste
hell awaits i UnderStand that perfectly, my opinion, best slayer's ever and work of art for all extreme metal bands, period
Seasons In The Abyss > Hell Awaits
it might sound like a damn cliche but the 90's were the fucking best! all kinds of great music!
All those sealed records. 😛 CD's started taking over at this time.

Is this by any chance from old VHS originally issued in the early 90s by german metal magazine Rock Hard ? Looks familiar...
Yes, you're right.
Venom : at the war with satan is my one favorite too but first is, welcome to hell vinyl!
The original voivod bass player was pretty cool actually. With his half shaved head he looked a bit of a punk
I miss record stores, to anyone in the socal area, check out bionic records in Cypress and dark realm records in Downey....awesome little local spots

Come on, DAVE, STOP BENDING THE CORNERS, DAVE.
Voivod, badass yet underrated band. Dave evidencing real good taste in real music.
saw them live in norway during the summer- they were killer
hes got his hat on chuntey style
He forgot the best,Death - scream bloody gore 🤘
But it was a contemporain, David is same age, he didn't grew up with Death music in the 70's and Early 80's.
How much did records cost back then? $7-8?
