  • coming out to Millerton lake alone on my Coronado 25 Sailboat has been a happy and peaceful time and place for me. But not being able to raise my sails has really bothered me. still, even sitting on the lake and enjoying the peace and quiet helps my PTSD alot. When Rick called and offered to drop the mast today i jumped on it. so thats hwat we did

Glad I ran across u fellow Vet. I was also looking at a 25 Coronado to find me peace. How do you like it? Any gripe that you think could have been better and different? Also how tall the cabin floor to ceiling to be able to stand inside? You seem like a big guy that made the boat smaller on Videos and have to duck down . Lol. I like the channel 👍

They are great starter boats. And on a LAKE they are probably one of the boats that should stay towards the top of your list.
Now I’m 6’2” … and I am WAAY too tall to be comfortable below deck.
I would say there is about 5.5’ of head room down there. And no average sized adult can stand up down there. Not really.
And glad to “meet you” brother. I’m glad you found my channel too. You’ll like the video that is coming out this weekend if your a vet too.

What advice do you have for dropping the mast and dealing with those issues.. i have the EXACTLY same boat. I don’t suppose you want to do a video about that?

Look for the video “dropping the mast” on the “refit” playlist here on my page
You basically use an A frame and attach the forestay to it. Then use the main sheets to ease it down.
But you could lower it by hand with a few friends if you really wanted to
      It’s not TOO crazy heavy

I watched your first video on lowering the mast as well. Do you have to loosen the upper and lower shrouds when dropping the mast? I noticed in the first video you loosened the shrouds, but was not sure if you did in this video. Also I am planning on replacing the standing rigging this spring. I have the factory rigging plans and the plans state 3/16 1x19 for all standing rigging. Currently on my Coronado it is all 5/32. I was wondering what came on your boat? Thanks for the great content.

@@danielgirdner9567 if you lower the mast by using an A frame you don’t have to loosen any of the shrouds that are aft of the mast since it will not be pulled tight. I did the first time because I didn’t realize that. The second time I was fine with leaving them be. To be honest I have dropped / stepped that mast 7 times. 2 times completely on my own now. With an A Frame, a hammer and my main sheets ( be sure your main sheets have a higher block ratio to take the weight off, that’s what they are for ) My standing rigging is not something I have had to replace yet. I have no experience with it on a Coronado 25. But I do happen to have a rigger on board the boat I’m staying on right now and I’ll ask him when his dinghy pulls up in the morning and see what he says.

@@danielgirdner9567 okay so he says stick to the book when it comes to requirements but he also recommends swedgeless fittings - stay lock…. For where they meet the turnbuckles as the go to the deck
A Coronado 25 may not be your forever boat but in 15 years who ever does have it (if not you than maybe your children?) will be grateful
