    Great trip, nice boat, good company. Does the crew know that higher up and in the air is the best place to avoid getting sick? Its counter intuitive, but airy cockpit or deck, gazing at horizon is the cure. Enjoy matey : )

    I think 5 A30s have completed circumnavigations (several on the way). Most recent completion was Jason Jernigan on LOLA, who finished in 2023. I have had Good News (1967 boat; #223) since 1991. Homeport is Mystic, CT, but now sailing the Chesapeake. A great boat.

    If the tanker was moving, she would have displayed navigation lights - red on port side, green on starboard, and two white range lights fore and aft. It's very distinctive, and something to look for when radar isn't giving information you need. Sailing near these behemoths is also a case for an AIS receiver, which will give you their course, speed, and closest approach. Good call on timing for the mooring ball. Ordinarily, best time to depart for Avalon would be late morning, so you can sail at least part of the way. Nice job picking up the mooring in Two Harbors.

Rigging, Olympics and was a USYRU Judge when that was the ruling body. And so much more everyone wonders why I don’t write a book… the point was. My crew deck decoration, ended up being my wife and we both couldn’t wait to get to work each morning. where are your spreader lights? cant figure out if theres supposed to be one on each spreader? theres one light in the center of the spreaders that I see but is there also a light on the mast head?

    • @RameyFamily
      @RameyFamily 2 місяці тому

      Spreader arm lights are meant to illuminate the deck. I put these ones on each spreader arm facing down . The light in the middle facing forward is NOT a light with the same purpose The centered forward facing one is a STEAM LIGHT. If you are running the engine (under power) and using the engine to move at all, then that MUST be on to tell other vessels you are under engine power because the rules of the road are now different Who has right of way is determined by who is under power or who is under sail Also note this boat was never intended to go back into ocean water and it is to stay on the lake, so knowing that they are all on the same circuit which is not how it’s suppose to be done. The anchor light on top is for when your at anchor (its own switch) the steam light should also be on its own switch And the spreader and lights can be on its own switch or with other non mandatory lights you may want to have for your own convenience I hope that makes sense

    "Being present in the now" is a concept I have wrestled with in every phase of my life. Nothing could be more important in life than THAT simple sentence. We owe it to our love ones, our friends, those we serve, and most importantly, ourselves. It reminds me of a powerful quote I read online recently: "Beware of Destination Addiction.....a preoccupation with the idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job or with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are."

    Love the alberg. I bought a 1965 30. I saved money for 17 of the 20 years in the army. Just retired and living on it. In Seattle and next year going across the pacific and eventual circumnavigation. I didn’t know a thing about sailing but knew I wanted to do it. My boat is stable and slow. I could have got newer boat but the alberg was solid and I set it up how I wanted with plenty of money left over to travel. I found that no matter what boat I got I was going to spend money to set up the way I want. It was between alberg and an island packet 27

I was made 100% service connected after Iraq, but then went to school and got my degree. On the way I learned a bit about financial management and began to pay off debt which I did for 7 years, then I used the excess money to invest, which is something I continue to do. Now most of my income streams are more “passive”
