The front of the new 5 series looks like a 2 series active tourer at first glance, the rear reminds me of the AMG GT 4 door (which is not a complement) and the gloss black rear bumper sticks out to the top far too much. Overall its the worst looking 5 series since the E60, i guess history repeats itself.

This one is thankfully not a brutishly ugly armored vehicle like the new 7, but it is definitely not tastefully elegant like the current one. I'll pass...
Alright, let's talk about this design then. Let me preface this by stating that the kidneys are actually the only thing they've improved over the F90. Also remember please that this is all my opinion, not some universal fact. I don't actually mind the kidneys, because they feel like just a modernisation of the outgoing design. The stretch in the lower part of the frame gives them a really good foundation to sit on, especially in combination with the "retraction" of the black peace underneath. However that's where the improvements in the front end. The shape of the headlights feels incredibly weird, they're almost uncomfortable to look at. The upper edge curves along with the hood(very welll visible at 8:24), which in itself isn't bad, however the new shape looks like a 350z with hood extension pieces glued onto the headlights. It just doesn't look right to me. Also the lower edge drops down towards the innermore light unit(something we've seen before on the 2-Series Gran Coupe), doesn't really fit the rest of the design. The rest of the front actually looks fairly okay-ish. Get rid of the black frame around the main intake, and it would look no worse than the outgoing model. Now to the side tho. Just look at the proportions. It looks cartoony. The hood is far too long, the rear doors and trunk lid too short, and the windows would be too slim if it weren't for the blacked out side skirts. Also notice how much the hood rakes upwards. That wouldn't be too much of a problem, if it sat lower in general. The trunk also dips down at a far too great angle. The sharper corner(mentioned at 9:56) further cheapens the design, especiallly alongside the upward-swing of the bottom line of the rear door windows. The thickend Hofmeister-Knick extends the black piece too much towards the rear, it becomes too slim(and too weak). The whole car becomes too slim(visually) towards the rear, and looks too front heavy, to a point where it (proportionally) looks like a FWD hatchback(Take a look at the 2nd and 3rd generation 1-Series for another great example of this(especially because they did actually switch from RWD to FWD there)). The rear to me looks the least bad. The black pieces above the "diffuser" (which he talks about at 13:06) look terrible. The overall mass of the black pieces is fine, however I think it should be one flat and wide piece above the diffuser(just to remove some body mass evenly across the bumper). The new tail lights are incredibly boring. Also the angle at which they rise alongside the quarter panel somehow looks incredibly odd. I think it's in the same way uneasy to look at, as the headlights. Other than that, the rear looks sorta fine. Now, the interior I'll go ahead and say, was improved over the F90. Not that I like the big screen of the iDrive8 system, however the infotainment screen of the iDrive7.1 was integrated no better into the design than the new one, only the gauge cluster actually looks better(so much better in fact, that I still prefer the old one). The reason I prefer the new interior is because the older one was too stylised. The controls in the center console and on the door panels look a lot more organised. The climate controls and air vent of the older one were nicer tho. They do lack a bit of definition, however they were still visible and physical. The new steering wheel I think also looks odd. It looks more like an egg rather than a circle with a cut lower end(Maybe that's just the angle tho, I'm not quite sure). I don't really have a conclusion, other than that the new design looks absolutely terrible, however if yuo've read this whole thing, thanks a lot. I just had to get my thoughts out there for once.
Everything looks good, but the rear. I am a BMW enthusiast. I've always been obsessed with them. I don't know where they are headed now. The rear looks like the G05 X5 rear, which I thought was ugly. Go back to the L lamps. BMW tradition. The rear on on this car looks like a Camry.
Not mindblowing of a redesign but a much more acceptable and welcoming kind of change. We’ve been flooded with multiple weird and controversial redesigns but this one’s nice. Hope the upcoming M5 is a promising one!
*I’ve always felt the same way that the new digital HD screen 🖥️ needs to be seamlessly integrated into the dashboard.* Always want radio 📻 and climate control ♨️ functional buttons 🎛️.
I like it. Grille could be smaller, but this isn't bad. Front sorta feels like a modernised E60. And I really really like the rear. Very hopeful regarding the M5.
The design reminds me a little bit of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé, at least at the back. The front reminds me of the 2 Series Gran Coupé, which is a sad thing. The new 5 Series doesn't look sleek anymore. It's bulky and high, especially at the front. The proportions are a little bit off, it doesn't look wide and sophisticated at the front and I can't see the growth in length. But the G60 is by far not as bad as the G70.
the 5 series was the last hope but after seeing this design , will have to say that bmw has lost it all , It was a hall of Journey , an such lovely thing been one of ur previous customer , RIP BMW 🕊
The too-tall and upright hood shortens the front, giving it fwd proportions and combine that the headlights that are too high and you get a stubby fwd 2 series look, which is not what you want on a premium rwd car. Why they decided to use the entry-level 2 series as inspiration instead of the flagship 7 series is incomprehensible.
Couldn't disagree with you more! This looks like an absolute abomination. Connect the front grille and add a mercedes logo, it will look exactly like a mercedes!
The interior is a huge improvement . The front of the car with the M Sport Pro package reminds me of the Octavia vRS. Also the car grew a lot in length. A bit over 5 meters long. As long as an older S class
Have you seen the base 520i? It looks so much better than higher trims M60, etc. No stupid black paint and noisy design on the bumpers, nice and clean bumpers.
Hate to disagree bembli but to me the front end looks kinda dorky and less professional. I always saw the 5 series as executive type cars but this looks like a video game render
I agree with you a bit, I got used to bmws new design language and I think it was a good idea for them to separate design languages between the more high end models like the 7 series and the lower or mid range models like the upcoming f70 1 series and new g60 5 series. to be honest I like the new 5 series design. even if it doesn't look sporty. thats wasn't the intent for the new 5 series as its leaning closer to a more clean and elegant design. if you wanted a sporty look you could always go for the m sport package or m variants. hope to see one on the road in person.
Looking forward to the mid-cycle refresh. The treatment of black skirts and grill "mustache" need to go. I guess if you get one, you can wrap or paint those parts body color.
Why BMW? Why are you ruining the design of your new cars? The rear end and front lights are terrible now. BMW was one of my favourite brands but I can’t like them so much anymore.
I was going to say somehow, it looks like a Kia Stinger. The lines and compliments to them are all over the place. From the side it has that rounded down tail of a Mercedes. They really outdid themselves with E4X-E90 and even the F3X. They're all really timeless designs.
What are you talking about? They messed up the kidney grill by enlarging it. The previous one had the perfect dimensions and angles. Headlights are weird and that upward curve is totally unnecessary. Basically it doesn’t look how a 5er should. It’s an unauthentic face. The new X5 is now the best looking car in the line up. Side view however is good. Rear is ok, nothing special
I really dont't like it at this moment ! I think the front looks like a 2 series GranCoupé or the 3 series, not like a large sedan. The front end seems nervous where it should be confident and inspire serenity ! I really don't like all these black plastic parts that they put on all their cars and look cheap ! On the rear end, it's not as bad but I find that the taillights are too long and from the side view I don't like the angle of the trunk, it falls like Mercedes or the latest 7 series... I was a huge fan of BMWs but the current range no longer gives me any emotion, except the M2 (if I don't look at it for too long) and the M3 (especially the Touring) and M4, but for the price I would have plenty of womderful other cars to chose ^^
I like the design but, I wish it didn’t grew in size externally. I wished the overall size stayed the same with a shorter hood line and increase the interior space and extend the wheel base for shorter over hang.
Aggressive, angry designs are played out. BMW knows this. They tend to be trendsetters. Aggressive, “angry” looking designs are a relic from the early 2010 days. Those will age terribly. All the 2023 cars which are designed to look angry and aggressive are doomed when everyone starts copying BMWs modern futuristic “ugly” look.
I appreciate BMW for making a car that makes me appreciate the previous version!

My thoughts are almost the same. But I like interior, except the fact it is missing some important physical buttons
The rear end looks like a face-lifted Camry.
Fire the whole Design department there is no one good left
Everything looks good, but the rear. I am a BMW enthusiast. I've always been obsessed with them. I don't know where they are headed now. The rear looks like the G05 X5 rear, which I thought was ugly. Go back to the L lamps. BMW tradition. The rear on on this car looks like a Camry.
I'm not too fond of the new shoulder line. I own a pre-LCI G30 and I'm in no rush to upgrade it.
the g30/f90 always gave me e39 reincarnated vibes. and the new g60 gives me e60 vibes. idk what it is
Not mindblowing of a redesign but a much more acceptable and welcoming kind of change. We’ve been flooded with multiple weird and controversial redesigns but this one’s nice. Hope the upcoming M5 is a promising one!
please make a redesign video!! your videos are great!, honestly they should hire you to work on their design team.
Damn nice 2series gran coupe
I'm already looking forward to the lci
Bmw managed to destroy a rwd design and make the 5 series look like a budget fwd bmw (just like the 2 series)
Hey Bembli, I appreciate your explanation of the design of the new 5 series, but could you explain why it just looks cheap imo?
Can't wait to see Frank Stephenson's analysis
The too-tall and upright hood shortens the front, giving it fwd proportions and combine that the headlights that are too high and you get a stubby fwd 2 series look, which is not what you want on a premium rwd car. Why they decided to use the entry-level 2 series as inspiration instead of the flagship 7 series is incomprehensible.
Couldn't disagree with you more! This looks like an absolute abomination. Connect the front grille and add a mercedes logo, it will look exactly like a mercedes!
I see Camry taillights
The interior is a huge improvement . The front of the car with the M Sport Pro package reminds me of the Octavia vRS. Also the car grew a lot in length. A bit over 5 meters long. As long as an older S class
The interior is not a surprise anyway, they all have the same one.
Idk how a wide screen taped on the dashboard is a good improvement. It looks terrible
omg same, was searching for someone to say it...looks like a fabia or a octavia from the front
@@x6land huge screens in cars are the new normal now 🤷♂️ the old interior looked dated to me
@@x6land i love how it is integrated in w213 E-class. They nailed it perfectly.
Looks like a Honda accord in the rear
It doesn't look as good as the last gen, but I think we can all agree that it looks better than Mercedes's EQ line-up...
i think the previous one looks much better
the grill is amazing! finally they got rid of the long grills.
Yeah i despise those black claddings all over the car too.
Looks like Camry from the rear
The rear strongly resembles AUDI...
I think, the corporate design has been broken again😕
That huge kidney with the 7 has been bad enough
I agree with you a bit, I got used to bmws new design language and I think it was a good idea for them to separate design languages between the more high end models like the 7 series and the lower or mid range models like the upcoming f70 1 series and new g60 5 series. to be honest I like the new 5 series design. even if it doesn't look sporty. thats wasn't the intent for the new 5 series as its leaning closer to a more clean and elegant design. if you wanted a sporty look you could always go for the m sport package or m variants. hope to see one on the road in person.
What a nonsense. BMW makes premium cars and all of them should look great
looks just like an elantra, I’m honestly starting to think influencers and youtubers are getting paid to not trash talk
Looking forward to the mid-cycle refresh. The treatment of black skirts and grill "mustache" need to go. I guess if you get one, you can wrap or paint those parts body color.
Side view doors and overall aesthetic looks like a Volvo or even a Saab to me
Bangle’s 5er was the best looking, beautiful proportions.
I usually respect your opinions, but this new 5 series design is horrid
Honestly, the side reminds me Mercedes C-class, and the tail lights remind me Mercedes GT
absolutely
Looks like a Skoda
Front is ok, tolerable...but the back, that elevated trunk, the weird angular kink, and the ugly ugly c-pillar, oh god ... Total disaster
the f10 was one of the best looking 5 series but this looks like its had the same massive downgrade as the new 2 series did visually
I really like the blue one.... Wait, that's the previous one!!!
Do we know that this is the chassis for the ICE models like the M5?
Cadillac ct5 looks way better.
It’s fine but the only big problem for me is the big black sensor between the grills
The new interior is so cool! Simple but functional.
Except it's neither simple nor functional. What's up with people these days.... Mass formation psychosis in full swing...
This could’ve work on a 4 series, but it lacks the bold and bossiness of the current 5 series
I like the design but, I wish it didn’t grew in size externally. I wished the overall size stayed the same with a shorter hood line and increase the interior space and extend the wheel base for shorter over hang.
front needs bigger headlights
Aggressive, angry designs are played out. BMW knows this. They tend to be trendsetters.
Aggressive, “angry” looking designs are a relic from the early 2010 days. Those will age terribly.
All the 2023 cars which are designed to look angry and aggressive are doomed when everyone starts copying BMWs modern futuristic “ugly” look.
There are also 'slots' in the steering wheel on the upper spokes, left and right of the centre cap. Very nice touch!
