It's certainly sounding very good, but I don't think it will ever match the intensity he once had in songs like Mortifera's "Le Revenant" or Peste Noire's "Dueil Angoisseus"
I just recently got into alcest i wanted to know more about Neige. Deuil angoisseux, i just checked that out. Damn those vocals are one of a kind i must say. Im actually kind of troubled by it, but fascinated.
5:05-goosebumps *-* I believed Alcest would have become an alternative/dreampop band after Shelter and I'm so happy they are making sublime blackgaze tunes again
I loved Souvenirs and Ecailles, but I guess I'm a weirdo because I enjoyed Shelter the most. It was one of the most beautiful shoegaze albums I'd ever heard since the 90's. Was kinda hoping this might expand on that sound a bit. It clearly doesn't but this is still gorgeous regardless. Alcest just does no wrong.
Same here. I loved them all the way from their debut, and I think Shelter is their best album so far (of course, I didn't listen to Kodama yet), and it also seems to be the darkest. Sure, there are no growls or heavy guitars, but there's a sense of tension and drama in many of the songs, and their metal albums with their ecstatic and joyful riffs sound upbeat in comparision. It's also musicaly the tightiest Alcest album so far, as it has little to no needless songs (Alcest were guilty of having filler tracks) or song parts. And I do regret they went back to blackgaze. As good as Kodama sounds, it also feels a lot like an unnecessary step back in some ways. I really don't see the point in growling in Alcest's music - Especialy with Kodama's post-rock guitarwork and sound it just doesn't fit the music. It never did, but now it sticks like a sore thumb. Of course, I'll get eaten alive for this comment by a horde of metalheads who feel bad whenever they listen to clean singing.
Aleksander Olbrych not from me at least. Shelter is incredible and in my opinion, totally under appreciated. That album has been in heavy rotation since it came out. It's so gorgeous and like you absolutely no filler. It's a 5/5 for me. Up there with some of 90's best shoegaze. That album is balls. I just kinda hate that a majority guilted him back into blackgaze. Critics loved Shelter, however listeners seemed to be quite polarized. So I'm guessing he went back to make them happier. But I would've loved a Shelter 2 more than anything.
Quade Carter I'm getting more and more infuriated at metalheads because I constantly, and I mean constantly see creative bands forced to playing the same crap over and over again because fans call every single change in sound "selling out" (no matter that the band switched to a less mainstream style than metal, it's selling out because metal is the only underground music genre, ever), and that was the comment from most fans on Alcest. It gets especialy hilarious when you listen to actualy niche music and see bands switching from other genres to metal in order to sell more copies. It's really odd when you hear, for example, Combichrist fans annoyed at their band because they are now trying to play metal to appease a wider audience, and then you see comments on any metal band's profile, ever, where the fanbase is absolutely certain that if you don't play metal you're selling out. So then you get bands like Alcest which want to do something else, but the fans won't let them. I'd really like to hear Shelter 2, or pure shoegaze experimented upon. Doing a "back to roots" album after barely a single album in a new direction is a shame.
I liked Shelter, I thought it was a pretty good album. As good as the previous 2? No, but it's still good. Maybe Alcest could do an all acoustic album sometime for a change of pace?
Je prends mon élan Pour planer au-dessus du sol Mais retombe sans comprendre Et crie intérieurement Mon corps ne répond plus J'ai oublié l'aisance Des jours écoulées Je suis d'ailleurs Au milieu de mes semblables Je vois des monstres J'entends des hurlements La gorge comprimée Dans un étau austère Les yeux bandés Je me sens étranger I Am From Elsewhere I take off with a leap To glide above the ground But I fall, mystified And with an inward scream Body unresponsive I've forgotten the ease Of an era long gone I am not from this land Among my peers I see monsters And hear their screams My throat strangled In a cold grip Eyes blindfolded I feel foreign
Awesome track, this band never disappoints, this is just amazing. Now it sounds darker and more black metal than it used to in its previous album. With the screams back you can really feel again that you are listening to some pretty fucking crazy avant-garde progressive DSBM.
I love Kodama and Oiseaux de Proie, but Je Suis D'ailleurs has a special place in my heart. One of my absolute favourite Alcest tracks of all time. Love the lyrics, screams, guitar work, drums... I could go on.
This is absolutely stunning. Alcest move me in a way no other band can, and I'm so, so excited for Kodama. I've pre-ordered the 2CD digibook because it looks like a gorgesous, tasteful version to own and read through as one listens to the music.
Big thanks to you Neige for keeping the torch lit and giving us this Beautiful, dark, mysterious and wonder filled music! now that opeth has retired from this style I am overjoyed that there is still alcest!!!
I think Neige has expressed his thoughts on nature quite vividly in this album. This song is spectacular! His growls in this song feel like they portray an anger he feels inside and it is unlike anything I have heard previously from him! Can't wait for Kodama!
Alcest is back and even if this cd wont have an entire metal vibe I do not mind because this song reeks Écailles de lune and that is enough for me, how perfect, how beautiful, how intense, I am overwhelmed. Thank you French Gentlemen.
I would probably never see Alcest live and die by suicide before that, but knowing such art exists is a great comfort in such life, trully je suis d'ailleurs ..
Is Neige the most beautiful artist in the underground scene? Whatever he writes is just wonderfully done and out of this realm. These guys as a whole band are just too talented and incredible. They come from another reality, I swear.
This is like revisiting Les Voyages de l'ame. Will never get over that album and if Kodama is going to be anything like Écailles de lune while incorporating mixtures of Les Voyages de l'ame, we're in for a treat.
The scream makes me scream always this is my fav alcest song
Niege's scream is better than ever, as is their songwriting. Brilliant guys!
It's certainly sounding very good, but I don't think it will ever match the intensity he once had in songs like Mortifera's "Le Revenant" or Peste Noire's "Dueil Angoisseus"
DC Blunt That's a fair assessment. His vocals are really good in those songs. His vocals on top of this rich production might have swayed me.
Deuil Angoisseus got the most tortured screams i've ever heard
that was unique
I just recently got into alcest i wanted to know more about Neige. Deuil angoisseux, i just checked that out. Damn those vocals are one of a kind i must say. Im actually kind of troubled by it, but fascinated.
Enchanting!
.
I like that they are mixed clean and harsh vocals !
Alcest is back!
( *Fangirling In Silence* ) (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧
Now, stay silent.
Got their full album yesterday. My ears are still melting. Love them ;w;
Ah... a bass drum on a metal album that actually sounds like a bass drum rather than some one clicking their fingers... plus the music is stunning.
Pfff just a jewel 💎 of song 🎵
Listening to this song on the way to work was not a good idea, people stared. My face must have been priceless.
General statement: Who gives a fuck?
+Fug Sosa
General question: Who the fuck are you?
+Fug Sosa Who gives a fuck that you don't give a fuck.
+RaimondoGames nobody, but seeing a 'different girl' type of comment makes me puke
+Fug Sosa relax budy! Don't be angry
4:03 OH MY FUCKING GOD! GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!
I'm so very glad the screams are back. 😻
Nice to see you here. K bye.
+Tushar Simkhada omggg hiiii ily 💚
Orange we all?
wow never thought I'd find Indians into Alcest. apart from some of my friends .
+Archisman Mukherjee yes! 😻💚

Je prends mon élan
Pour planer au-dessus du sol
Mais retombe sans comprendre
Et crie intérieurement
Mon corps ne répond plus
J'ai oublié l'aisance
Des jours écoulées
Je suis d'ailleurs
Au milieu de mes semblables
Je vois des monstres
J'entends des hurlements
La gorge comprimée
Dans un étau austère
Les yeux bandés
Je me sens étranger
I Am From Elsewhere
I take off with a leap
To glide above the ground
But I fall, mystified
And with an inward scream
Body unresponsive
I've forgotten the ease
Of an era long gone
I am not from this land
Among my peers
I see monsters
And hear their screams
My throat strangled
In a cold grip
Eyes blindfolded
I feel foreign
Merci mec!
Oui, merci!
"I am from elsewhere" is a beautiful translation of the title 🤍

(this track) it's just more post metal than before, that it's very good, but you sound like over exaggerating on what they did.
DSBM? No.
I love Kodama and Oiseaux de Proie, but Je Suis D'ailleurs has a special place in my heart. One of my absolute favourite Alcest tracks of all time. Love the lyrics, screams, guitar work, drums... I could go on.
How is it possible NOT to love this...?
Holy shit, if they're gonna continue like this we have found our album of the year, guys!
It's like every cell in my body is feeling the music, I think this album is going to make me cry ;-;
It already did make me cry :')
same here :']
I don't understand the lyrics, but I get goosebumps everytime I listen to this song!
Abhishek Devdas yaaasss
Oh hi Karthik!
Uma pena o melhor álbum deles não ter nenhum clipe 😢
I can't understand a world still so hooked to it. That's the magic of music
Very nice!
Love the production!

My favorite song on this album, absolutely fantastic in every way.
That Alcest vibe just there! Sad yet uplifting at the same time! I can't stress how much I just love what Neige does!
yes Alcest is back... great track, melodic and depressive as always. Niege's vocals are wandering & magical... pure art!
... how is Alcest depressive @_@
Incredibly beautiful
I'm speechless, this is a masterpiece!
Amazing. Think this will be their best record yet.
You didn't listen to Percées de Lumière ;)
+Kahabeth because nobody should
So sad that you can't appreciate this masterpiece ;)
Feu de camp Les Voyages De L'âme is still my favorite, but this one rides on it's shoulders
Encore et toujours amoureuse de tout ce qu'ils font ! Vivement la sortie !
The screams are back
Now this is what we're talking about !!!!!!! Great great job Alcest welcome back !!!!
Neige found again back to his songwriting qualities. The Force remains strong within this one.
I think Neige has expressed his thoughts on nature quite vividly in this album. This song is spectacular! His growls in this song feel like they portray an anger he feels inside and it is unlike anything I have heard previously from him! Can't wait for Kodama!
So true!! I can't wait for more, man!
So beautiful
This is fuckingg amazing! nice journey
I dont even understand the lyrics
Amazing!
Alcest is back and even if this cd wont have an entire metal vibe I do not mind because this song reeks Écailles de lune and that is enough for me, how perfect, how beautiful, how intense, I am overwhelmed. Thank you French Gentlemen.

Not cool. I was trying to go to sleep last night, then I saw Alcest released a new song. Didn't get much sleep.

Amazing song. Truly amazing.

Alcest is back!!!!!! Just amazing!!
Another great track !! want more
Never thought that a Metal Hammer article would lead to such an amazing new music experience.
Los pelos de punta!!! Alcest sois grandes!!!!
Is Neige the most beautiful artist in the underground scene? Whatever he writes is just wonderfully done and out of this realm. These guys as a whole band are just too talented and incredible. They come from another reality, I swear.
4:04, yup that sealed it I am buying this album, all I expect from alcest is a touch of screaming, that's it, niege does it so well
i dont speak a word of french but for the past 3 albums this has been my favorite band. i just cant get enough of it
Nice memories with this song , fills me with nostalgia
great to have you back again. Amazing!
True sorrow through each scream.
ALCEST is extraordinary!
Reminds me so much of THY CATAFALQUE. (I recommend)
I thought it's "Nous Sommes L'Emeraude" at first
oppa i luv u (/ ' 3 ')/
My first thought aswell! But as NSLE this is also a very powerfull song, i was kinda zoned out when listing to it while gazing through the windows.
Yes, same here
This is soooo good. As every other song. :)
Love it!
So stoked for this album!
vraiment , alcest is life i really adore this group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would be fun to have the lyrics though. Malgré tout, merveilleuse mélodie!!!!
This is a masterpiece!
Wow, Amazed!!
Can't go wrong with Alcest
I'm madly in love with this sound. No doubt about it.
Breathtaking
Brilliance....these cats have real talent!
Feels great to have these fucking geniuses back
Alcest could never get old.
Loving the new Alcest so far. "Shelter" was a great record, but I think "Kodama" will kick its ass.
No sabía de este grupo, hasta que vi el nombre y lo busque en UA-cam 😂 y me gustó. Van a venir aqui a Monterrey a concierto.
thank you so much, Alcest in México city!!!
I'm not into black metal, but i really like alcest last two albums...
intoxicating .... I love their music
clean vocal fit so well on this record
Awesome!!!!!
I listen it only in few parts because i want to wait till the album release but that intro is very similar to Nous Sommes L'Emeraude
The album of the year? Très bon...
Definitely "Kodama" is the soundtrack of my life..... 💕
All albums are best!
AAaaaaaaaaa, fucking LOVING this! September 30th, come here already!!!
This is like revisiting Les Voyages de l'ame. Will never get over that album and if Kodama is going to be anything like Écailles de lune while incorporating mixtures of Les Voyages de l'ame, we're in for a treat.
Me encanta ¡ME ENCANTA! ♥
When will this album finally come out... 😫😫😫😫😫
Love ending, sounds like you're riding in the train, through music...
Amazing song, especially the part around 4 minutes gives me goosebumps. Glad the gutturals are back.
