I used Virtual DJ 15 years ago as a wedding DJ, then took a long hiatus until late last year when I decided to be a club DJ in less than 2 months. Still had the lifetime license, so made sense to just use VDJ. I never found it overwhelming or busy. I've looked at it as having a bunch of features waiting for me to discover/learn. If there's one thing I find confusing about other software/standalone systems it's the data management.
You are testing one of the most powerful DJ softwares in the world. That requires some learning from videos, other users, etc. to learn quickly. You can’t take a sophisticated racing car out for a spin like a normal sedan. An orientation is necessary. Enjoy.
I know…watching him whine cause it was confusing…lol….I tried serato years ago when I got started. I signed up for VDJ right away and easily learned it….Hated serato…
Allready been said, But to get your virtual dj effects to echo out with the fader down you just need to go into setting and find the fx section and change it to post fader. pretty much any problem you run into can be fixed in the settings.
VDJ is compatible with a lot of DJ equipments. I use it as a backup when the controller isn’t compatible with Rekordbox. You didn’t need to use Lexicon with VDJ. VDJ automatically connects with other DJ software. I started using VDJ in the early 2000s.
That's the most key mistake in this video. Should give credit to VDJ. No Lexicon is needed. It just natively reads Serato Crates. It works like charm for bi-directional sync.
It's crazy that we are still having these debates about which is better VDJ or Serato. I have and use both, but prefer VDJ for MY dj needs. I don't Dj in clubs, I do weddings and other events so VDJ works great for me. I do agree with many of the comments, it's unfair to jump into a software that you don't use and have a negative view because it's not like the one you are used too. If all software were the same we would complain about that too. VDJ is used for so many other things other than just djing and that's the option that it gives. Serato is a power house dj program. Biased comparison videos really is not a comparison but a reason to say why I don't really like the other software. Many say that VDJ is clunky and busy, but for the price, I want ALL those options there, it's just my choice to use them. Truth of the matter is, the only people who care what dj software we use is US, the people we are rocking for could care less as long as the music is good!
Exactly! I'm wondering why make a video and complain about how this thing that I'm trying for about an hr is nothing like the thing that I'm used to using for years. If Serato, VirtualDj, Djay Pro, Rekordbox work for you, then keep on using it. If you actually want to try something new, then actually try it. Give it a few days. Weeks before deciding what works for you. I use Serato, VirtualDj and Rekordbox. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. At some point I might try Djay pro and if I do, I'm not doing it to complain about it's weakness but to see if it's something I could incorporate into my sets.
You can't have both a lot more features and be less complicated. But in fact you can. With VDJ the whole UI can be redesigned element by element to be exactly what you need. It takes a bit of time but you can pay someone to design your perfect layout, down to buttons, sizes and pixels. Then you're set for years.
Virtual DJ is super tight man! I really do credit them for their ability to support so many controllers and on top of that allow changing the mappings on most of those controllers. I broke a tempo slider, and it sucked but with a little tweaking I was able to unbind it and instead manipulate the BPM via the pads, I gotta say I'm better working the BPM using the pads since my tempo sliders are freaking tiny, never liked them anyway. That's the wonderful thing about VDJ is that you can make it 100% personal to you. This is why it's my favorite.
This video is hilarious. I like the fact that this man knew nothing about the software and did a review on the fly. lol lol. Man making virtual dj look soooo complicated when it really isn't. Virtual DJ does alot more than Serato and that's why it may seem complicated to someone who never used it before. It takes times to learn all what VDJ can do that Serato cannot. Love the video still though. lol lol. Good vibe.
It's not more or less comfortable. It's a matter of comfort level. When you're used to it, you're used to it. Anything else is foreign. They're both equally complicated and not complicated. You just get used to things and then you're gold.
as a VDJ pro user who is just now after 5 years starting to mess around with Serato this video was HILARIOUS! because its me.... but looking at Serato like what the hell is this!? hhhahah great vid
Nice vid tutorial, it took a bit to figure out the functions of virtual dJ and I must say it has advantages over Serato, one thing I notice was I could use any streaming sites at the same time, that blew me away because everything is at my fingertips. I’m still learning and love it. Thank you for the demo
VDJ has skins and had stems long before the Serato 3.0 update. Its all a matter of preference but VDJ just offers so many user configurable options that Serato does not. But the main issue for Serato (for me) is that you need a fairly decent laptop to use the software as it is a resource hog. VDJ can run on a potato laptop with no issues.
I tryed Virtual DJ Pro once with an overlay that fits the controller, it really blew my mind. You should try an overlay for your Setup. I don´t like Serato. Rekordbox is ok to use but too much micromanagment, hiding buttons and options that could set wrong. Still need to investigate Traktor.
dj cee b the only reason vdj is pricey is because the video software comes free and plays all video formats, unlike serato only mkv and mp4, or you have to convert the format, oh plus serato video u have to pay for. there is alot u can do with vdj, like you can still mix with vdj w/o a controller, while serato is only a player. plus u n change ur interface to match ur hardware. but like i said before i have both, but mostly use vdj.
I use VDJ extensively if you want a call I can show you some tips on it. The configuration can be confusing but the options when setup can make it pretty good.
Great video dude, I use both software and I must say Virtual DJ in the last 2 years has taken a slight advantage over Serato. Serato feels more clunky than the old scratch live
I think that it just seems overwhelming because there are so many options. It's the most flexible DJ software in existence. You can totally remap the functions on your hardware. You can even get skins that like you said resemble serato, or skins that look like your actual hardware setup. There are also plugins for free that you can install as well. It's so versatile it's ridiculous. Side note, I prefer the pro layout the essentials layout is okay but the pro version just feels right LOL
I believe you didn't need to use lexicon! VDJ reads your serato crates automatically in the crates folder. Also under options type "fx" and select the post-fader fx vs pre-fader.
@@TheSocaVault yea! Serato Djs should all have VDJ as a backup in case they encounter non-serato hardware.. I like that I can Dj with Rekordbox Djs & Serato Djs on whatever hardware
Using Serato since 2007 (before using Vinyl & Cds, DJing since 1996), never had the wish to change to an other App...and i do over 100 Gig a Year. never had any Problems.
Serato user, but when you take into account all the features on virtual dj- and the controllers it works on, and the fact that ive tried it now- its a pretty damn good software i must say❤
You can't judge the book by the cover.virtual DJ is more easy to use than serato.virtual DJ can do everything serato do .and serato cannot do lot of things vdj can do .get to know vdj and you'll see 👍🏿
I just don't get why you should use the cmd+left/right shortcut from the keyboard, and you don't use s9's BROWSE knob that's designed to do just that. I think you can save some seconds there. The thing is that i've seen this loading also from a lot others using s9. Is there aproblem using the 2 seperate browse knob on s9?
This was a good video. I definitely think you would feel a lot more comfortable with VDJ after you had a play. One thing to remember it's a video dj software too. So you're able to make your own video mixes to go with you tracks.
As someone who have been spinning in VDJ for the last 15 years it's always interesting to see other coming from Serato or Rekordbox. I'll say it is overwhelming if it's not the ecosystem you're used to. It's 100 percent worth going through all the settings and dialing in everything exactly how you like it. The slicer will be more snappy with quantize turned to 1/8th. I'd love to see you do a more in depth vid once you've had time to get familiar with the software and unlock its full potential. VDJ has full write ups on their website if you need anything explained as well as the VDJ community is always willing to help ( me being one of them ) cheers. As for the price when you look at base Serato vs VDJ there are key features missing in Serato that you have to step up to a more expensive version to get when VDJ gives you the world and more at one set price.
Virtual dj is way more easy to use than serato dj pro....I think u need a good Mastery for all the softwares to clearly explain the lapses ..I mean no disrespect....
I don’t think he should have made a video until he knew what he was doing somewhat. First off, virtual dj reads serato crates, so you don’t need any additional software. Second I would have changed to the pro skin. Just this entire video looks like her has never touched Virtual dj until the video.
some notes. a great review for someone just coming in and starting on VDJ fresh, appreciate that man. serato is ala carte pricing, VDJ give full features for that price, so it seems higher but if u add up the expansion packs and everything else to get serato full featured it does come up to a lot more. secondly the hardware support is basically pretty much 99% of all controllers or HID capable hardware in VDJ. vs serato needs licensed products to be compatible. in terms of complicated yes it very much far feature rich than serato, u can set cue point, u just need to change the layout of the interface. effects u can set post fader or pre fader in the settings, but the VDJ effects are not great and that we all have to agree on. its a lot if ur coming from any other software like serato or RB or engine. but if u do a lot of mobile events and u want to organize and plan shit out VDJ does lot of it, but its an effort to learn, u can even change the EQ frequencies if u want to, i once used it at a private event where the room had bad acoustics. play around with it man, its a great sw to have in the laptop for any emergencies with Serato, i learned that very early, and i am basically software and hardware agnostic now, i keep serato RB and VDJ all in one laptop. there was 2 times where the laptop in the club failed and there was no other choice but to use VDJ for the rest of the night for even the other DJ that was on, coz it failed on his set.
Hi, I've used Serato and Virtual Dj for years and the first thing I've loved in VDJ was that it reads my Crates directly with all my cue points. I can't understand why you passed out to open the Crates tab and find all your music before conversion. Anyway I love the way VDJ let me decide how much separation between stems during mix, but they are focused on two different kind of DJs, mixing vs scratching.
no its not complicated you just more time with the programme then i can promise you will love it. just as you are used to serato is exactly why you feel comfortable with it, is because you have used it for a long time. virtual dj file reading is excellent finding songs finding folders are awsome and not complited for eg rekordbox. you just need the time on the programme
BTW you didn't need lexicon.. yoy can open your serato crates with having to use a different software also. They were already there the whole time... with virtual the database will remember every folder you open within vdj you can just look for the song instead of trying to remember what crate it's in..
I started with Virtual DJ. I purchased the Pioneer WeGO4 with VDJ. I didn't understand Rekordbox at the time and was told the Virtual DJ was good software for beginning DJs. I used up I upgraded to the DDJ 400. I made the move so I can learn Rekordbox and start playing outside my apt. I had no issues with using VDJ but it's been a while since I use it. It wasn't as busy as it is now and it was more user-friendly. I currently use the DDJ 800 which I love. I got used to Rekordbox so I can't see myself returning back to VDJ. I know some DJs who have and was pleased with the move. I couldn't do it. Virtual DJ is pricey. With the amount you pay a month, you could get a DDJ 400 (if you are starting out) and Rekordbox will be free.
Shame the video opened with a misguided comparison. VDJ is more expensive but feature wise is comparable to Serato DJ Pro Suite which is 14.99 USD a month, not the 9.99 tier. However to buy it outright VDJ is 299 Vs 449 for Serato Pro DJ Suite, which surely was worth pointing out?
I never managed to play with virtual dj or serato, touch was just very different and very weird for me. I think virtual dj is very flexible though. you can throw in skins, map all the buttons etc. In Traktor I have my own mappings for many buttons and jog wheels have been adjusted to fit my mixing. then again, video tells clearly that softwares aren't interchangeable without some adjusting.
You don’t have to use lexicon, virtual dj can read serato crates. On the side folder there’s already crates before you used lexicon. Virtual dj can read rekordbox playlist as well. You don’t have to use lexicon. Just take your time and explore more, you’ll be shocked that in every feature VDJ performs better than serato.
Ive tried virtual dj too. Seems more for people who want to customise it exactly to their own style of djing - its seems reeeally good for that i suppose as the options are extensive. ✌ Also ...See the instant double bit at 16mins in..... Is this mainly for 'flair' ..looks so faaaast man like a more complex way to make the same sound. Because i feel like you could do the same thing just beat juggling the other side or hitting the cue point with left hand before using the crossfader to scratch with the right ? ....since it seems like u prefer the right deck. ❤
The echoer out is in [crossfader settings] when u switch to the opposite side it engages for you but that's another video. took me some time to get it all setup to engage at the right time and intensity. :)
Remember BDJ is lifetime with lifetime updates. VDJ is not complicated. It’s just that once you are accustomed to one particular software transition to another software gonna be kinda tingling. The only thing I dislike VDJ for is the lack of effects
I don’t think VDJ is as complex as Recordbox. You were starting with the default interface. I find Serato to be more difficult because you can’t right click on anything in Serato and I found myself reading documentation to figure out basic tasks.
As a serato user what do you think about Rekordbox to serato ? because i find Rekordbox for a beginners is easy than all of them and i would like to try VDJ but it wont work with my controller and i am learning at home and it’s not free with a controller
Why you closed the File-info panel on the right side of the browser (05:36) ?! Without opening the Tag Editor, you can well edit comment field contents right from there, also can rate the track and edit some other fields in the drop-down-menu way. Most importantly, the pre-listen fuction is right there, it lets you pre-listen to the track in browser without first loading it on the decks. (Can also pre-listen tracks on streaming services without loading to decks and more) Serato users should hate it very much so why didn't you show it?! Haha Anyways, I like watching your other videos very much, keep up the good work! :)
You can change the layout on the top to Performance mode and I feel it looks a lot better than the default mode, and more similar to Serato's color scheme. What's funny is I used to have Serato as my main software and VDJ my backup, until one day my laptop crashed and I was forced to use VDJ. Since then, I haven't gone back :)
If you have the driver already installed you dont need to re install for another dj program. in the case you dont have the driver installed youll need to install anyway dosent matter if is Serato or VDJ. peace!
go deep into settings, if you laptop is powerful enough set pitchquality to 4. and record to wav at its highest. i see you closed that popup with keys. bad idea. click where you see the key by the platter. and make sure it wont match the key of the other deck. or it will all sound samey.
Hey, I was wondering I wanna start filming DJing clips on tiktok, but it never sounds right Any tips on how to get clean audio when doing reels and tiktok vids please
Record the video through your phone Record the audio on your Dj software Bring both the audio and video into a free video software like iMovie. Remove the phone audio. Attach the recording audio. Now you have clean audio!
I have used Serato for the past 30 years. I started using VDJ in 2020. I like them both. VDJ takes a little longer to get started, but it offers more features than Serato. It also has better video controls than Serato. Serato sounds best.
You might want to revise the first line (Serato as a company was established in 1998) and so is max 26 years old at time of your post (the first available version of Scratch Live I think came out early to mid 2000s). The other two are opinions I respect (but don't necessarily agree with especially the first...from my and most i'other DJs in my circle's experience, Serato always took very long to startup and shutdown, VDJ just starts almost immediately). However, they both work well once tuned.
Serato users say always Serato is better, but my first DJ software was Serato and now i use Virtual DJ pro 20:15 and i say Virtual DJ pro is better for me.
🤣🤣 this guy is saying every is complicated...YET SERATO USERS say VDJ if for beginners. WHAT🙃 something so so complicated is for BEGINERS 🤫 it beats my mind
The user experience improves with a better skin. Update to the latest version and try out some different skins. I agree about the software fx though. I've been using vdj for 20 years and I still don't use them. I prefer the hardware fx on my Roland
I‘m also a Serato user, who switched months ago to vdj Pro. With a few adjustments (FX, Keyboard mapping, Layout aso.) the software is just so mighty! I do all my track organization within Serato as crates are automatically imported and no other software is needed. Btw. Wherever I have newer supported hardware in the clubs I prefer Serato, but when I have older gear which was only supported within scratch live or when I need to use my controller VDJ is the first choice! I would recommend VDJ especially for wedding DJs, as you can fast change your gear without worry about any connection issues.
THIS COMPARISION WOULD BE FAIR IF YOU ... CONSULTED OR DID IT WITH AN ACTIVE VDJ USER... SIDE BY SIDE.. you will learn serato is LIGHT YEARS behind vdj. e.g stems came to vdj ABOUT 3-4 years ago. : playing without hardware has been in vdj since its birth. AND THESE things are just coming to serato.... IN THE NAME OF NEW UPGRADES.. LOL
Nice video but here’s a bit of advice. Before you do a fair comparison of DJ software competitors, familiarize yourself with the product. I’m quite sure your stumbling and inexperienced surprises were exactly like this when you started with Serato DJ. Just my honest opinion.
The Numark Scratch is plug and play with VDJ. That is the brilliant thing about VDJ. As soon as you fire it up with your mixer plugged into your laptop and tuned on it will automatically recognize it and ask to confirm that it has detected the correct equipment. Try it out. I began with VDJ and the. Moved to Traktor. VDJ is my go-to if I’m playing with someone else’s hardware that isn’t compatible with Traktor. I absolutely love how versatile it is. It has saved my bacon on many occasions.
@@HookedOnClassics, the Scratch is a Serato unlock device. With Virtual DJ, you do have to either subscribe or own the full unlimited license. You mentioned you used VDJ for years. I assumed you already own a license from then. Essentially, if you go back and access your VDJ account, dependent upon which kind of license you have, you can use the Scratch with it. I bought the unlimited or "Infinity" license. Free updates for life and any equipment they configure to use with VDJ is just plug and play.
Virtual dj is like Android you can customize it to your liking not like serato. Two different software is like android vs apple so next time please to your research before you critique the most Powerful DJ software on Earth
Lol why did u have to use lexicon all u had to do is open crates the music was already there automatically i think u guys have too much software at hand i never had to use no other software to get my serato crates into Vdj 🤔🤔🤔
Just change the skin to see cue points lol)))) Also you can change skins and the wave form to make it look like Serato. If you practice a little more, you'll never get back to Serato. VDJ rules!

Also the library there are options on the side to clean that view up if u only want to see music folders and nothing else
Definitely do a in-depth video on virtual DJ
Hi, I've used Serato and Virtual Dj for years and the first thing I've loved in VDJ was that it reads my Crates directly with all my cue points. I can't understand why you passed out to open the Crates tab and find all your music before conversion. Anyway I love the way VDJ let me decide how much separation between stems during mix, but they are focused on two different kind of DJs, mixing vs scratching.
Right his crates from serato would automatically be in vdj
@@RayHolman-e5o I can see my Serato crates natively in VDJ, but not my Serato Cue points 😢
What am I doing wrong?..
no its not complicated you just more time with the programme then i can promise you will love it. just as you are used to serato is exactly why you feel comfortable with it, is because you have used it for a long time. virtual dj file reading is excellent finding songs finding folders are awsome and not complited for eg rekordbox. you just need the time on the programme
I have both Virtual for home it is so much fun. Seerato for a gig it does a great job.
You know VDJ will just import your Serato crates for you...right?
Yes love it. Do more of these for V DJ
I started using Vdj since 2005 until I was introduced to serato & I ain’t going backwards 😎 good video bro✌🏾 bless up
You don’t have to use lexicon, virtual dj can read serato crates. On the side folder there’s already crates before you used lexicon. Virtual dj can read rekordbox playlist as well. You don’t have to use lexicon. Just take your time and explore more, you’ll be shocked that in every feature VDJ performs better than serato.
Bro your reactions are priceless 😂
It dose effect with the channel fade ... but u have to turn on post fade or post effect fade
Ive tried virtual dj too. Seems more for people who want to customise it exactly to their own style of djing - its seems reeeally good for that i suppose as the options are extensive. ✌
Also ...See the instant double bit at 16mins in.....
You will have to spend about a month to customize vdj to your liking
Virtual dj may get me this year, Serato been giving me a lot freeze ups on song loads,,,lol
I use 2012 macbook pro retina 15", u must upgrade ur memory to 16gb, I have 2014 macbook pro retina 16gb also no lagging
VIRTUAL DJ is the mother of all dj software they already hv rekordbox and serato playlist library ready to be used in.
(Can also pre-listen tracks on streaming services without loading to decks and more)
Serato users should hate it very much so why didn't you show it?! Haha
Anyways, I like watching your other videos very much, keep up the good work!
If you have the driver already installed you dont need to re install for another dj program. in the case you dont have the driver installed youll need to install anyway dosent matter if is Serato or VDJ. peace!
Ahhh that’s good to know. Thanks!
Extremely helpful! Thank you!
Yoh The in depth video i want it mahn
go deep into settings, if you laptop is powerful enough set pitchquality to 4. and record to wav at its highest. i see you closed that popup with keys. bad idea. click where you see the key by the platter. and make sure it wont match the key of the other deck. or it will all sound samey.
bro you are testing one of the best DJ software on planet
its so complicated for you but not for those who love using it. i must tell you its very very easy for those who use it .
Can u plz do an in depth Virtual DJ vid plz 🙏🏾
Hey, I was wondering
I wanna start filming DJing clips on tiktok, but it never sounds right
Any tips on how to get clean audio when doing reels and tiktok vids please
Record the video through your phone
Record the audio on your Dj software
Bring both the audio and video into a free video software like iMovie.
Remove the phone audio. Attach the recording audio. Now you have clean audio!
@@DJCEE_B thankyouuu so much. Will help me get out there now
Why doesn't VDJ have their own dj controller. Everything seems to be Serato confused software.
@@djvinyltouch4027 I guess I was wrong in the number of years, but I have been using Serato for a very long time, is what I should have said.
Slicer is all chagable like you can change the speeds of it and everything I would love serato if it was fast on junk hardware
you didn't need Lexicon to import the library to VDJ, VDJ already reads the Serato crates
The biggest advantage over serato dj is video player, no chance for serato in that area.
Yes but u dont need to transfer no music on virtual dj jus simply scroll down to crates u will get the exact crates with serato ..
The reason it looks cluttered is because unlike Serato it has a full mixer on its GUI.
hi i want virtual dj crack software for mac pc please send me even if i pay
Will you demo the stems on your set up for both vdj and sdj
Make a video of vdj vs Serato
It’s on the todo list
The user experience improves with a better skin. Update to the latest version and try out some different skins. I agree about the software fx though. I've been using vdj for 20 years and I still don't use them. I prefer the hardware fx on my Roland
I bet when you do some more studying of vdj you’ll be like WOW? We pro vdj users got a good laugh tho. Plz do an in depth video. Thanks
In depth video is coming
How can I get the sampler volume to stop reset every time I open the vdj software
How you moved from serato to VDJ ,when VDj look so unprofessional 🤷♂️🤦♂️
@@DjDonKimbert it looks nearly the same when adjusted
For sure if a virtual dj user would jump to serato he will feel also lost !
Don't confuse your learning trajectory and the quality of the software ;-)
"Ohhhh my tiny brain, this is waaaaaay toooo complicated" my god just stick to serato than... i use serato vdj rekordbox and traktor and i prefer vdj
Those too many settings on VDj are what made me leave Serato permanently cos in VDj you customise almost everything the way you want
But Serato DJ pro crates work in virtual DJ eve though u don't use dat software
THIS COMPARISION WOULD BE FAIR IF YOU ... CONSULTED OR DID IT WITH AN ACTIVE VDJ USER... SIDE BY SIDE.. you will learn serato is LIGHT YEARS behind vdj. e.g stems came to vdj ABOUT 3-4 years ago. : playing without hardware has been in vdj since its birth. AND THESE things are just coming to serato.... IN THE NAME OF NEW UPGRADES.. LOL
Maybe Lexicon can help me use my VDJ playlist in Serato.
You sound bias af.... Anyway, anyone can tell me How can I get the sampler volume to stop reset every time I open the vdj software
Nice video but here’s a bit of advice. Before you do a fair comparison of DJ software competitors, familiarize yourself with the product. I’m quite sure your stumbling and inexperienced surprises were exactly like this when you started with Serato DJ. Just my honest opinion.
I used VDJ for years it’s brilliant , using Serato now only because it came with my mixer Numark Scratch , I miss it 😢
The Numark Scratch is plug and play with VDJ.
@@IamMarkSmith The Scratch came with Serato pro built into the mixer , I think you need to still buy VJ to use it no ??
@@HookedOnClassics, the Scratch is a Serato unlock device. With Virtual DJ, you do have to either subscribe or own the full unlimited license. You mentioned you used VDJ for years. I assumed you already own a license from then. Essentially, if you go back and access your VDJ account, dependent upon which kind of license you have, you can use the Scratch with it. I bought the unlimited or "Infinity" license. Free updates for life and any equipment they configure to use with VDJ is just plug and play.
@@IamMarkSmith Can’t remember the log ins was on my old PC 🥲
Goto settings to change post fade effects
Yeah found that out after the video. Will go over all this stuff in the next video
Thanks
Virtual dj is like Android you can customize it to your liking not like serato. Two different software is like android vs apple so next time please to your research before you critique the most Powerful DJ software on Earth
Lol why did u have to use lexicon all u had to do is open crates the music was already there automatically i think u guys have too much software at hand i never had to use no other software to get my serato crates into Vdj 🤔🤔🤔
Serato e vdj sono i migliori entrambi
Just change the skin to see cue points lol)))) Also you can change skins and the wave form to make it look like Serato. If you practice a little more, you'll never get back to Serato. VDJ rules!
Even when he compared prices he was wrong….VDJ is comparable to the highest Serato package not lite…very misleading
