This was my favorite song from the Last Ninja 2. Back in the day, I didn’t know how to defeat the crocodile in the Sewers so I cheesed around that by not turning the disk over after level 2. This resulted in having to play The Streets again, without music, but upon completing it for the second time, the game would proceed to load level 4, with music again. Ah, the memories
A true story. I managed to complete all three Ninja games on the C64, but it took me years to do it. The third one took me until the mid 90s. In the mid 2010s I replayed all three games to see if my brain and hands were up to it. Back then they still were and I remembered things and how to do stuff. One thing I remember having nightmares about was The Basement in LN2. Years went by in the late 80s/early 90s for me to figure out where the poison was and then how to jump on the boxes. Every time I hear this music I'm back there, more than 30 years ago, stuck. And then one day I figured it out. But this level, for me, is the most haunting one. I love the music but love/hate the memories.
I love the way this track changes half way through. Thats the great thing about this soundtrack. Its not repetive all the way through like most electronic stuff today, theres a lot more variaton and more emotions in each track. Especially the central park track, its progressions make it comparative to classical music.
I remember the moment I first heard this....and realizing this is the moment where computers had left the era of bleeps and blips behind and were firmly into "actual, legitimate music" territory. It was kind of shocking.
The day I put mi C64 in my fathe's High Fidelity Amplifier, changed my live. I still remember this emotion listning Matt Gray's Last ninja 2 themes and getting amazed.
You Sir are absolutely right. It not only was a computer, its powers simply bordered the mystical realm. It really was THAT good, it was always pushing to envelope.... As such it was a great catalyst for my intellectual development. In fact, without it I doubt if I ever got so far as to obtain a PhD degree in physics!
Amazing. Just amazing. Just to get your panties in a bunch; this music was actually released 25 years ago. On 30 year old hardware.. Amazing actually just doesn't cut it.
this one was my favourite track in the whole soundtrack...but its a hard choice to name one track as the best one, cause all are unique and awesome... i spent so many nights playing this fine piece...
I could forgive the clunky controls for the awesome soundrack and sweet level design. Watched my dad complete the first one when I was four-five-six. He could never get onto the helicopter at the end of the office. When I was about five I got as far as the basement jumping the boxes, but damn I loved it!
c64 was a good machine. it was a very very good machine. it was a very very very good machine. it was a very very very very good machine. i loved it, i loved everything about it, the smell from it, the look from it, the sound from it, the keyboard, the color, the games, the charisma, the time period of the classics. nothing beats it. it may be nostalgy, i think it is not about nostalgi, i really do believe this computer was the shit at the time.
Thanks for the replies! I was only grooving to the soundtrack in bed late last night. And dreaming of how id love to do a live tribute performance with 2 others using a midibox sid, and all the exact original sounds of the soundtrack. One of us playing electronic drums, one playing melodies on keyboard, & the other playing basslines/sub melodies. When i get the midibox sid built, ill put up some videos of what i mean! (if i can manage to play them on keyboard that is!)

I wish I could back in time and play this game one more time.
Composer is a genius
Not quite. The entire Last Ninja 2 soundtrack basically rips off the music from the group Tangerine Dream.
Amazing. Just amazing.

Soundtrack to beating a dubstep DJ's head in with an 8 bit machine!

I'll try to take up that challenge with recreating the music. I mean I too am still blown away by this soundtrack!
I hate the start but when it hits the middle damned its one of the best tracks in the game!
Love it.
Oh this brings back fond memories of C64 ownership. Cheers dude for this
who loves THIS soundtrack will also like the soundtrack of the C64 game "Bangkok Knights" ;)
@marcusnns

Sepultura must have been playing Last Ninja 2 the day before they came up with Refuse/Resist.
anyone got the feeling to break something with this tune (since it sounds just like the main riff for Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff)?
i tried out last ninja 1, never did the second... but shit man... this music is so damn good
Last Ninja videos - No down votes.

i have actually made remixes on the street and central park
GTA 5 soundtack!
One of the composers of GTA 5 was Tangerine Dream. Last NInja 2's music was heavily inspired by the music of Tangerine Dream as well.
@pegeman21 you still can get C64 emulators and roms for your windows PC (if you have one) world wide web dot ccs64 dot com
this is so BAD, I`m going to make a bold statement and say that the c64 version of this was the most influental videogame soundtrack ever made.
