Excellent explanation of the concept and how it is being implemented. I have no time for the conspiracists with their exaggerations and paranoia, but I do wonder about the relationships between developers and local politicians when vast housing estates are allowed to be built without schools, GP surgeries, shops and other important services. I also believe bus/tram services should be planned and laid on before many people move into new developments.
Like most things there are lunatics on both sides....one think itll be a prison and the other thinks it will be a utopia. Personally i dont want it and ive not seen a working plan. They arent banning cars but owning one will be difficult as parking will be restricted, also roads restrictes, etc, pushing folk onto public transport. If you consider work and family the whole thing falls apart. Work wise, what are the chances you and your partner get the job you want/trained for within 15 minutes? Not high, so does one of you travel sacrifiing time and money on public transport to god onows where? Or do you take a lower paid job to get more time for life but at a reduce degree. People will be petrified in work incase they are sacked or forced to stay as taking the job yhey want means moving area or time and money on public transport. Family, my folks stay 45 min in one direction drive away in another town, 3 hours at least by public transport. Partners gran stays 90 minutes away, again 3 hours at least on public transport just to get there. Loads of other deiends and family who stay scattered all over. No chance of seeing folk through the week and linited time at weekends due to public transport. Someone said hire a car. Costs more to hire a car for 4 days than to own one
Really interesting and in depth video. Keep up the good work. 15 minute neighbourhoods? It's going to be difficult to get some people out of their cars as they are so attached to them, and many of the physically able have just got lazy. An ex-girlfriend used to drive 400 yards to the shop for her cigarettes. The one way system made the journey almost twice as long on the way back. Walking is so good for you physically and mentally.
Really? It looks like Milton Keynes and all I could see was big roads with people driving round in their cars, so it seems basically the same as it was before but lots of little low rise buildings in place of the tower blocks.
There are plenty of very legitimate reasons to be deeply distrustful of governments, so when some genuinely sensible policies are implemented I understand why some people find it hard to believe that they aren't sinister. I've met people who don't drive who oppose traffic calming and improvements to pedestrian and cycle infrastructure because they see it as a removal of civil liberties (when you remove the liberty to walk safely by building dangerous car-centric infra, apparently that doesn't count). What they don't seem to get is that by opposing good urban planning they are just supporting the 1950s style planning which was implemented by the same nefarious power structures they are so against. In Glasgow in particular, the city council has such a longstanding reputation for being crooked to the core and is loathed so widely that people will oppose anything and everything it does, because it does it. It's almost impossible for Glasgwegians to fathom the idea that there could be good people working for the council getting things done that actuallly benefit the general public. I am still somewhat surprised myself to see so much good stuff being put in. I wonder what's really going on inside the council, I imagine internal battles between the old boys' club of taxi/bus company gangsters/auto lobby and the sensible, well-intentioned urban planner types.
Thanks old boy! Good to see clips of Dunblane and Strathaven. And even Elgin, which used to be my “big town” when I lived up north… I like the 15 minute city concept but maybe be it’s slanted towards those who can afford to live in certain parts of a city. Compare and contrast Shawlands (where I am) with nearby Castlemilk. Still no supermarket up there despite years of promises. So non-car folk have to get an expensive taxi back up from Toryglen… keep up the good work my friend 👍
Thank you very much Martin for your super like! Took a lot of work getting all the random clips from towns around Scotland haha! Château Lait deffo deserves better!
Possibly your best video, this was like a proper documentary, I can see where you have done your research with quotes from politicians and information from latest reports. I am enjoying watching your growth on this channel. Keep it up! 👍
I already live in a 15 minute city. It’s brilliant. I don’t need to drive anywhere. All the shops I could need, cinemas, pubs, cafes and restaurants, pubs, you name it, all a short walk. And no one is stopping me from travelling further for any reason that I want to go anywhere else. LTNs - I’d rather call them People First Neighbourhoods - make my street safer, more sociable, less polluted, now it’s not being used by lazy, selfish people as a rat run. I’d go so far as to say that the anti crowd are either stupid or absolutely mad.
Europeans think we don't have busses. We have busses! You can ride a bus! We have public transportation! We have legs and bikes! If people wanted busses they would ride them. Lol he said he can't understand why people think they will be locked down then goes on to explain that you will be fined $70 if you leave your zone. If you have to buy your freedom it's not freedom. I love how they think cameras and fines magically build shops. Never before in human history has "convenience" required checkpoints and cameras.
Public transport in the US is generally terrible on every level. From high speed inter State rail (or lack of it), to urban planning. There's no point having a bus service without dedicated lanes, making it quicker than using the car. It has to be regular - less than every five minutes. Ideally 24 hour. I admit I lived in two of the worst examples in the US - LA & Houston, so moving to Europe was an eye opener. I still have a car but the train or even bus can get me there quicker depending on the journey. I might want to out for a few beers and be able to get home at 2 am..I have choice.
@@zivkovicable you are right if a bus stopped in front of my house every five minutes and it were faster than a car and went everywhere 24 hours a day 365 I would be happy if other people used it. Haha Americans aren't against public transportation for other people. My point is that Americans don't want to ride it themselves. If people used it it would be amazing and we could all sing communist workers songs on our way to the mandatory loyalty rally. 😂 I'm teasing of course (kinda). If my door were kicked in after I run out of ammo and a gun put to my head and my car confiscated I suppose I may ride a bus. 😉 It would cost trillions every year but I suppose if Europe could defend itself it's possible. Our bus money is spent on defending the countries with fantastics busses.
@@foreignofficeclub5815 well since Europe only exists because Americans pay for your defense and win every war you get into. I would think you would be grateful we spend our "bus money" on your freedom. When you get a gun and defend yourself I'll ride a bus. 😂
@@foreignofficeclub5815 as long as we pay for your freedom we will always have a say. Defend yourself and see how much money you have left for busses. Running the world cuts into our bus budget.

Excellent video. Find yourself an MP who is against 15 minute cities and you can guarantee there will be some oil company lobbyists not far behind.
Sometimes the real conspiracies are staring us in the face while we are being distracted by rubbish...
Find an MP backing 15 minute cities and ill show you a corporate shill

Interesting, Sighthill looks different - is there still the infamous stink ?
some days there is still a faint aroma. it seems to have a very long half life!!
Just discovered your channel - I am enjoying all your videos so much!!
Be interesting to see if people feel the same about 15 min cities in 2030.

Americans trying to tell us what is and isn't freedom is a huge part of why the world is so fcked
