    Great overview. Can’t wait to see them all build and used. I partly moved away from Glasgow, due to the population and congestion in the city centre.

    Nice update, thank you. I use the South route heading into town a lot and it makes a big difference. Be good if something could be done in Shawlands though.

    Great video! I'm still waiting for a cycle lane on Great Western Road around Woodlands, trying to cycle there is daunting because cars can park in the bus lane...

    They need to trim the trees on the cycle route from St.Peters cemetery entrance (London Road) to the city centre.

    It looks great and I certainly would be more encouraged to pop up from Ayrshire to spend time seeing the sights around Glasgow. I just recently bought the Trailmaps of Glasgow City so hoping most of this is marked on it. Having said that as a disabled person who visits Byres Road on a regular basis to collect my fish by car I’m thinking I might not be able to do so. I’m also wondering if this along with the LEZ is going push visitors out of the city?

      @glasgowcycles  11 місяців тому +2

      Looking forward to your next video. I’m also curious about the trail maps of Glasgow city.
      Byres road will still have plenty of parking once the cycle lane is complete. Hopefully more people being able to cycle when visiting reduces the amount of parked cars in the area. It looks like they are doing the construction slowly to avoid disruption and to maintain as much parking as possible.
      When the LEZ zone was 1st introduced I noticed the city was quieter but it’s now got back to the same amount of traffic as before and in my opinion It needs to cover more vehicles than it does just now.

      @@glasgowcycles Thanks. I’ve only had a quick glance at the map but shall hopefully put it into use at some point and see what it’s like. I usually use Komoot to plan any rides so this is just to complement that.

    some great incremental progress being made. The key is to keep the investments going and we'll have a great network in a decades time

    Read this in Glasgow times today:
    The Avenues project from Charing Cross to Rose Street has a two-way cycle lane.
    It will not extend beyond that point, although cyclists can still use the street as it is designated a “core path”.

    Oh this is exciting! Shame funding has been cut for other parts of Scotland, though. The cycling infrastructure in South Ayrshire, for example is very poor. The few cycle lanes we have are used by drivers as parking spaces 😢

    Jamaica Street bridge has a cycle lane,but then it disappears at Bridge St underground!
    Wouldn't it make more sense to continue it down to Shawlands?
    Ans-Of course
    Why did they not continue it?

    Just pity the council doesn't maintain the cycle lanes, full of dirt washed off the main roads and glass, most of the ones I cycle on,

    • @rpw1013

      Because they are rarely used !!!

    • @davewatt8840
      @davewatt8840 Місяць тому

      @rpw1013 maybe if they looked after them cyclists would use them, I certainly don't use them with the state there in

    • @rpw1013
      @rpw1013 Місяць тому

      @@davewatt8840 - I think you misundertsand me, they are a waste of money, there is not a requirement for them in as many areas as they are being located, some areas have no need whatsoever for them and it only makes the roads more difficult for cars and buses to access. This is why there is so much rubbish in some of them.

    Another great waste of money by Scottish gov and Glasgow city council, barely see cyclists using the routes as they are not legally required to use them. Would have been better installing a metro, that way it might benefit local businesses.

    • @andrejs4984
      @andrejs4984 3 місяці тому

      installing a metro is much more expensive than creating a bike lane, bike lanes also do not require as much maintenance as roads used by cars, so this can save money in the long run. Don't get me wrong, I am in favour of both, but metro is much more difficult to do. Bike lanes are low hanging fruit with lots of potential benefits for relatively small costs. and if you do not see any cyclist using them, I recommend you open your eyes, cyclists are using them and there are much more cyclists than 9 years ago which is when I started biking in glasgow and started paying more attention to it and most of these projects havent been done or even started. some of these bike lanes are full of broken glass and pedestrians like to walk on them, so I understand why people avoid certain bike lanes, I know by instinct already each bike lane section full of glass when I ride around to avoid it. I would be very careful with words as "barely see", if there is a full, finished bike lane somewhere for some time already so people got used to using it, most use it. I am cycling through Sauchiehall Street multiple times a day and rarely I see a cyclist not on bike lanes. And that is probably one of the worst bike lanes to ride on as pedestrians constantly walk on it

    • @rpw1013
      @rpw1013 Місяць тому +2

      @@andrejs4984 - I agree with the person that used the term - barely see, and I will use it as it is true. Far too many of these lanes being created in areas that do not have any interest in a cycle lane - there are lots of other priorities that people would rather see than a barely used project. Some of these lanes just annoy car and bus passengers as it limits the width of the road and the cyclists just use the pavements. Ironically yo say pedestrians cross the cycle lane in Sauchiehall St, now you know how pedestrains feel when cyclists constantly use pavements and avoid the cycle lanes.
