The Datsun got a problem...
At the moment It is very hard to start, and when I get it running it will only stay at idle which makes it very hard to move around.
So I decided to drain all the old fuel and give the carburetor a bath in the new Ultrasonic cleaner..

Great work man. Live seeing the Datsuns
That carb ended up looking great. The car seems much happier. Looking forward to your work on the ignition. Many thanks, it's terrific to see a car I owned in the 70's, mine was metallic blue.
😂 That first minute was pretty funny. With you pushing, I was waiting for the Datsun to go up the ramp and then off the other side. (That would happen in my garage!) 😅
Beautiful car, I had one and I loved it very much. Unfortunately, I made the bad decision to sell it. I still regret it. greetings from El Salvador
Hi Sebbo, new to the channel thanks to Hubnut. You are the Danish Hubnut but your garage is so much more organised. I had a 77 120Y, great car, bullet proof
Haha thats one area where we do stuff a little different... ;)
As usual you've done an amazing work! You're the best Seppo!
Getting more and more happy, when you do a new video - quality is improved, and your choice of cars is superb/excellent!! Well done.
good to hear! thank you!
Wow that engine turns over so fast on the starter !!
Just today, scored a barn find, old 1974 120y having same issues as you, looks like I’ve a busy day tomorrow 😂
Nice video, informative as I’ve not worked on cars in 20yrs was a great refresher course 🤙
That is such a tidy, solid looking car!
I am amazed how rust free your 120Y is, I had a 1978 2 door that just dissolved every where, finally got scrapped after failing it's MOT at 12 years old!
Mechanically, it was excellent with 90,000 miles on the clock, I have had a few Datsun/Nissan cars over the years, all were utterly reliable & never let me down.
Same here , mine was a 77/78 orange one , body was quite good condition, engymint but the o/s inner wing totally rotted, ended up scrapped😢
Such a simple carb with a manual choke! A tidy engine bay with plenty of room to work. Simple breaker-point ignition. Ah...those were the days. When you could fix it on the side of the road with 3 wrenches and a screwdriver.
My family had a few of them, known as the B210 in the states, they sold extremely well.
Nice work!
👏👏👏🙌 lækker lille Clevin reference!
budum....bom bom
Owned a datsun 120y did a lot of marathon trips and it never broke down. Great fuel saver ,mine did 18km per litre wouldn't mind another dance.
Awesome job, how you were able to get that car started right away. ✅️
Those states really gave a powerful crank
Nice job with the fuel system! Now to the ignition and it will run smooth :). What a cool looking car and so fuel efficient! Seems like a perfect car for today 😅
It really does!
Hopefully you cleaned out the distributor cap of all the crap 💩, niiiiiiiiiiice job getting her started.😊
We had a 1971 Datsun Sunny, the previous model, fantastic engine but rust got it in the end. Best mileage for me was 40mpg, imperial gallon, so around 33mpg US, or 14 km/l. However I did press on in those days. We also used the car to tow our caravan, when the mpg was around 28 mpg, imperial, 23.5mpg US, or 10 km/l.
Nice 👍
You were lucky to find that ball bearing. When I drop something I rarely find it. Your gasket turned out well.
Thanks! Could not believe my luch!
I am sure these early Datsun engines are related to BMC A series but with improved breathing, many of the manufacturers ( inc BMW, Toyopet, Datsun, and others ) their first was a copy of an Austin 7, rebadged.
Yes but I believe these had 5 main bearing cranks.
@@edwardkennedy9919 not sure, could well be, you would surprised how many car manufacturers started out by copying Austin cars inc BMW so IF you ever an Austin 7 badged as a BMW, now you know.
@@barryphillips7327 yeah I remember around 1980 we had a datsun 1 ton pickup with a 1500 pushrod engine and my uncle a mechanic was doing some work on it and he said apart from the carburetor that it was a bmc engine.
Check the governor weights..had an issue with a seized weight & broken spring years ago
A great gas saver ☺️
I have the new replacement carb like this on a Tercel 4wd. Can you post a link to the diagram you found? The carb I bought did not include any diagrams or reference info.
With the state the distributor cap is in, it'd probably be prudent to replace the majority of the ignition system's electrical parts, it probably hasn't had a good service in that regard for a long time, so could do with plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points and condenser, make it nice and arcy-sparky... :D
Yea... the spark system is quite neglected on this... most likely because its such a reliable car that people forget to service it...
Man, Sebbo, losing that ball is something I would do!
Also, you might try using your starter with the car in 1st gear, clutch out. Should be strong enough to drive it into the garage.
Blimey mate, are you buying all of my dads old cars??? We had a Datsun 120Y estate version. It started to rust on the top of the wings. As my dad did not buy enough compound to go with the fibre, he filled the holes but it looked like it had grass growing out the top of the wings! Oh it was very reliable though... 😂
It's funny how these have got better looking over the years. When I was a kid, they were the nastiest, tinniest, least cool cars you could see on the road. But now it looks a bit like a miniature Plymouth Fury to me. Our horrible neighbour had a particularly awful brown one and I had a laugh one day when it slipped its parking brake and rolled backwards down the hill into another car. In the UK these were always known as the Datsun Sunny, though it did also say 120Y on the back. I'm sure somebody else has already pointed that out but I don't have time to check. I bet you'll be selling this car pretty soon, but it will have been worth getting and fixing.
Its fun how times changes impressions...
How many small bolls does the 120y carburetor have
so weird, its so smooth in the last shot where the engine isnt moving it looks like the audio is eddied in haha oviously isnt it just make me chuckle, i need new engine mounts, my engine moves a bit too much for my liking
Sounds like it may need a condenser. The distributor cap as you said and the rotor arm does it have a resistor in it?The points were burnt that is why I say a condenser.
I think you are right.... a bit hard to find one though!
After doing the carb and new fuel did you fit a new fuel filter?
I wanted to, but waiting on the new one...
My brother can you where I can find all spare parts of nissan datson 120 y for all models and the catalogue of the datson help me with it pls
Sorry I dont know... I have a hard time finding parts for it myself....
@@SeasideGarage thank you brother ❤️
Focus
10:18 why do you think that carb was so horrified?
haha! I forgot to ask it before I started....
Maybe needs a new condenser?
could very well need a new one !
Before you spend money on ignition parts put a timing light on it. But let it warm up properly 1st.
After finding that ball bearing l hope you went and bought a lottery ticket..
P.S. love your parts bath. Every home should have one.@@SeasideGarage
