    Dull coat will not leave it shiny. You can also spray this in between layers of weathering. You need a smaller putty knife. Remember, spackling paste works better in thin layers. Or just let it dry for 2-3 days. Looks really good! Were you replacing the track on the curve over the road? You can spread that spackling paste over the tracks. Just remember to clean out the wheel flangeways or smooth operations.

    Industrial tracks would have less ballast because they weren’t maintained by the railroad

    I'm N scale, I just did 2 parking lots like this in the last week, and just painted them grey today. I used drywall compound and since they were just lots, I didn't use the tape like you did, but pretty much the same result. I have a couple more to do, along with some roads. Turns out fairly well.

      @@TopRailroad your welcome. I made a Christmas vacation boxcar in ho scale. The athearn 40' undecorated boxcar. What I do is use a gray primer spray paint then I let it dry for a couple of days before I pair it the colors I want. I'll have to take a picture of it. And send the picture to you.

    Good video! I learned a few techniques, particularly about the tape and the material used for the roadway. 👍
    I am a bit curious as to why you laid in the short road without leaving a "slot" for the future track ..... you outlined that future track, I would have thought you would have laid tape along the outline. AS I said, just curious. 😎

    Hello TR, cool scene, but I would continue to run the track on the right side parallel to the edge of the plate, then you would have longer sidings. Still, it looks really good!

    Love it so much! Not sure if you had mentioned it before, but any reason in particular that you chose to not use a cork roadbed this time around?

      I don’t usually use cork since there’s so much track and it’s a little easier to work with when you don’t have all your industries with the raised track. I would use cork roadbed if I had a long stretch of mainline which I might have on the new sections someday

    Looks good. Quick question...shouldn't you have laid the track before you installed the road on that section leading up to the ramp?

      To make things a little easier I took it out cause that piece was temporary, looking back I probably could’ve done it but I’ll cover that in the next video

    That car you weathered, is rusted like that because it's used in salt service. Cement cars don't get that rusty.

      ​@@TopRailroadIt's one of 600 built new for the Genesee & Wyoming in 2000-2001 by Trinity to handle increased salt traffic from the then almost new Hampton Corners mine and also to replace their aging fleet of hoppers. Loaded about 20 miles from my house.

    with those tracks being more like a siding track, why not go with a different colored ballast then from the main line.

      The mainline will be a different color, it’ll be a blend instead of just grey. That’s why I only did those 4 inside tracks

    Loving how you do your vid presentation. What are you using for voiceover audio recording? Just record in a quiet room? Cleanup with a program? I can do the timeline editing with audio to video, but I want to learn how to do it this well.

      Thank you! I use Audacity to record my voice over (it’s great and it’s free) and I do it in the other room. I then upload that recording to my already pre edited video on Adobe premiere. Then it’s a matter of cutting it all together and adding the bells and whistles. It does take a long time to get done especially with videos this long

    I'm just a couple of minutes into your video. You noted you were really happy with those trucks, but at 2:09 it appears that the red truck is missing one headlight, on its right side (our left).

      They are painted but some spots do need touching up. Same with the soldered parts

    I need an opinion. I am building a train table and using foam board. The foamboard has a plastic sheeting/coating that has come loose on a couple of the corners, should I remove the film sheeting from the board before painting it?

    Do you know where I could get dirt like that? I live overseas so I can’t import it and the color and consistency of my local dirt doesn’t work for where I’m modelling

      If you can’t import anything I would try to look everywhere you can in your area. There could be some dirt like mine in very specific spots. You can always try digging down further in area where grass is to see if you can find some! Best of luck
