@@mygreygapyearu don't get caned simply by chewing gum. Chewing gum is legal but only importing and selling of gum is illegal. However, I prefer stricter laws in Sg than what the UK and US are facing with getting mugged in the street, phone getting snatched by ebikers etc.
I love Singaporean cuisine. Chilli crab is my favourite and they serve it in the orchard road food courts. I did chuckle when I saw the Portugese custard tarts having just come back from Lisbon after my teams 5-1 win in the Champions League, very addictive.
@@mygreygapyear Lisbon is highly recommended. Just be prepared for the hills they are brutal, you need trams and other public transport to navigate them. The food is amazing.
The temple in China Town you visited has a tiny but perfect rooftop garden. The most memorable food eaten by us was a slab of ice cream on a slice of bread. Never do it in England but always in Singapore.

A long time ago now I had the best food from Bugis Street. The prawns were the biggest and tastiest I had ever had and stick in the memory. I doubt I will have enough time to revisit on the BA015 refuelling slot in January 😢
Back in th 70's Bugis Street offered considerably more than prawns, an endless procession of seemingly glamorous women who were, in fact, nothing of the sort!! I was in late teens then and it was a jaw dropper helped by a generous quantity of Tiger beer (like Phil in this vlog). Love Singapore, my Dad was in the RAF and we were stationed at RAF Changi in the early 60's back when we actually had a proper RAF!
This is a great channel! I travel alone, frequently, and do exactly what you do (although sadly neither retired nor on a grey gap year)... Food, beer, more food and more beer. I don't spend a fortune but I spend wisely. I use air miles and careful planning to have a decent amount number of business class flights and plenty of lounge action! Macau is one of my very favourite destinations (more-so than Hong Kong even). I have been to Singapore a few times, and this makes me want to go back. Thanks to one of your videos in February I am going to do that little First Class run on the Emirates A380 from BKK to HKG. Keep up the good work 🍻

@@mygreygapyear I am based in Kuala Lumpur- so i have quite a lot of nice destinations for my weekends around me. Perth is super easy and cheap to fly with scoot. But it is still Perth.... not so exciting for me.

Phil another cracking vlog, This trip would be right up my street, Architecture, History, FOOD AND DRINK plus, some night life. I would always look for street food over top restaurants in that situation. Yes, a kebab wrap to finish the night is something I do once in a while in my home town of Hull. Thank you for your kind comment, I have flown on Malaysia Airlines in business but only on internal flights, I did order the satay as my meal as often as possible, but now I'm even more annoyed that my long haul MAS flights got cancelled.
In Singapore, Western, Japanese, Korean and Thai cuisines are not street food. Hainanese chicken rice, nasi lemak, roti prata, laksa, char kway teow, etc. are called street food because they originated from hawkers selling them on mobile push carts along the streets.

Sorry, I've misled you, they're upcoming (in a few weeks) but I went to Malaysia as a part of this series of flights. It was a beautiful place, another on the list that I want to go to again. I could spend a month on Langkawi. That's what comes of typing replies and then not reading them back to myself to make sure they make sense.
I hate your guts - you lucky devil!!! 🙂 I used to go there a lot for work or as a stopover, and have friends who live there - but the stifling climate, and not being on expenses, take the shine off. *Never* wear nice clothes anywhere near chilli crab.

That would be amazing to be in short flight range. Another commenter lived in Perth which I was surprised to learn is just 4 hours away.
