I've come to really appreciate drum midi packs this past year, riffs just keep popping out by not fiddling around with the details. This will surely be part of my library eventually sounds excellent 👌
Even as a guitar player, I will still say that drums are *the* most important part of a band’s/artist’s sound. You could have the exact same riff, but changing up the drums will change up the sound and even the genre sometimes. Getting creative/original drums on your track is what makes or breaks your bands sound.
And now there are hundreds of grooves you can quickly drag in and check to see what sounds the best. Also it helps learn what the beats are and you could program them in yourself as you grow... win-win!
Absolutely, especially if the tune is trying to drive energy. As a former hardcore drummer, my snare work was always bringing the energy. I suggest you, as a guitar player, lay out all the drums first, the full song, make em kick ass on their own to your ears, then lay the guitar down after, around them, almost like a fancy click track. This will make the tune more natural and realistic. As opposed to the other way around, which always creates a disconnect, if using pre made grooves. it wont be easy by any means, but those pre made grooves, fills, and what not, with slight modifications will sound like a real drummer, because it was when recorded, just gotta make em seem real with your guitar, like you made the tune together...Good luck
It took me five years or so to finally get good at drum programming and actually understand what I was doing. Now that I've got it down I don't mind programming drums. However, starting out, having good drum grooves really help with inspiration and writing song ideas. I never would have made it this far without them.
I appreciate MIDI groove packs as they make creating lessons much easier. I already play the guitars and program the bass, so anything to save some time is good.
The only groove pack a songwriter will ever need, 2 big plus points for me are 1 every upgrade of that pack comes for free 2 includes the grooves in different maps to fit most of the drum libraries. Horns up for loudstack
Thanks, man!!! \m/ Do you mean the guitar tone? I just used my "The Well Rounder" preset in my Marshall Metal pack for Neural DSP Nameless Suite X and then mixed that in \m/
Well, the annoying thing when dealing with drum plugins and external midis from different brands and etc is, ok, "I might have to do some moving around", no problem in that, but how do I know what is what? I mean, in a midi file, I play it, and it overall sounds correct, but there's some weird notes in weird places like hitting on the snare rim, or on the ride, or on the kick. How do I find what they are supposed to be instead? Move it around and listen?.. There never is a clear instrument list and this is my main frustration with drum midis external do the "vanilla" included in whatever it is the drum plugin one is using. In my case, using Addictive Drums, it is extremely frustrating using external midis, I end up always using the same included ones, and spending weeks at a time editing them... Even with switching and correcting the drum map in the Map Window, there's always a piece of the kit somewhere it shouldn't be. Not going to buy this with a 100% functional drum map...
The velocity editing and that it was played by a real human has a huge reason to do with that, every hit is different and it goes a long way for realism!
The good news is you no longer need drummers. The bad news is you won't need guitar players in about 18 months for exactly the same reasons you just pointed out.
Gotta commend you for this comment. My eyes rolled so far into the back of my head that I saw my ass, which was quite a feat. Was good to confirm that I do, in fact, have a nice ass.
As far as drums go, this from an old school gigging Hardcore drummer, they have to be created around the guitar AND vocals, if not, it will almost always be lame. Now if you are going to use pre made drum groves from these drum vst's, start the song from there, the drums, a complete song, all parts should gel together and kick your ass, then create the guitar and vocals after, around those drums, still not optimal, but way more natural and realistic. Vocals should always come up together with the rest of the tune as its being hashed out as well, or there is always a disconnect imo, easily heard. There is no way, without extreme luck, you are going to piece together viable drums from pre made groves around an existing guitar track...and sound even remotely "realistic" Good luck
Cool, you're a drummer. I am, too. Do you know how many people are capable drummers? Not many. Do you know how many people want to put in the effort to learn how to write drums and program them at a high level? Very few. Do you know how many people just want some good, high quality tools that allow them to write songs and get their ideas out quickly? A fucking metric shit ton. That's what this is about, man. Writing songs. Stop making it about YOU, chief.
@@ChernobylAudio666 Wow, you need a re read. Talk about a lame bs reply, that post I made was all about helping, the little bit posting about me meant squat, but just a mild qualifier for my advice. Everything in my post was about helping those deciding to do what you do in the vid reach a goal of more realism, which is the common complaint, if you even read your comments, Hell just delete the whole damn post, guess it bruised some complex clearly.
Since the invention of the digital recording and the ability to quantize the beat (e.g. make everything perfect) drumming in general sucks. No groove. John Bonham would sound shitty quantized.
Does this make sense if I have all of the Ugritone midi packs Ron also did? Or is this completely new?
These are completely different and not the same. I did ask Ron about that and neglected to mention that in the video, my bad. Thanks for asking!
Completely new grooves
@@Loudstakk Ok, good to know. Good thing it's christmas soon ;) I've been more than satisfied with the Ugritone packs.
Being using Loudstakk drum midi grooves myself too, very useful HQ grooves & super easy to use and to write new music!
Ron has done a great job with these grooves

Excellent walkthrough as always. Thank you for all that you do. 🤘

Drum programming , guitar programming, bass programming.... Nightmare!

I love programming drums.. it's tedious yes.. a labour of love, but I love the end result when it sounds sick.
Loved Ron's work with Ugritone, so will for sure be checking this out. What did you use for the guitar tracks on the demo by the way? Fits great.

This is my exact writing process. Take my Money Ron! Awesome vid Scott.
Thank you!
12:52 the best part 😆
English is hard!
I bought these when they came out and I haven’t used anything else since then, they freaking rule! Plus you get free updates for life!
I hate programming drums and I love MIDI packs which sound like real drummers
Love the Loudstakk stuff!!!
And I love you too Scott ❤😂
Honestly programming anything in MIDI is a pain in the ass
Hell yes, anything to help me write some more Black Metal efficiently
Thanks for the folder link option info!
You bet! \m/

i have all the Ugritone packs plus some others, so I`m good. Those seem to be roughly the same
Loudstakk is the midi grooves out there, everything they offer is outstanding.
Ron is a man of quality and Loudstakk continues his legacy!
Solid video dude
10:03 damn I really dig this
The melody at 11:00 is awesome! Thank you! 🤘🏻
Thank you!

The snare on the Fills does not sound robotic\machinegun at all. At all. I guess it has to do with the library sounds though. Sounds the same.
The velocity editing and that it was played by a real human has a huge reason to do with that, every hit is different and it goes a long way for realism!
@@ChernobylAudio666 I meant the opposite though! Of course it is "machine gun" like. It is audible but that is due to the samples used.
so awesome man
I love these!!!
Are these curated from Ugritone midi-libraries?
No, all completely new grooves.
Oh Yeah! 🙌
Will this pack work with Waveform 13 free???
What ezdrummer 3 expansions packs do.use
I bought a drum MIDI pack from a company I can't remember off hand. So disappointed, it was all grid aligned 127 velocity.
That sucks. Definitely that will NOT be the case with this one from Loudstakk
@ChernobylAudio666 yeah this looks like what I want a drum midi pack to be.
''Beautiful bastards'' he's definitely talking to me.
Haha, you nailed it
Hey Scott, great video, but, When are you going to make your Blackened-Death-Doomy Metal album/EP ?Your music always is great you only need a singer!!!
One of these days, man.... lol
Damn those black metal riffs are good.
Thank you!

Cool guitar, saw one used 600$ didn't buy it... Will be regretting it forever.
I love B.C. Rich!
To be honest, the fills/rolls sound very robotic and stiff. I prefer the Toontrack stuff.
