    Helpful tip for lefties who are new to learning about jumps and spins...watch the video with a mirror angled so that you can see it in the reverse image. :)

      Awesome exercises! Would like to see a vid on flip(can't find one on the channel right now), some on spins - centering, entrance, and sit spin. Also some field moves (spread eagle), more turns (bracket, counter, rocker, choctaw) :)))

      @Confused.canine 2 місяці тому

      Hey! I’m wildly late to this comment but incase anyone seeing this needs it; most rinks have circles in the corners with small dots inside of them, imagine using one of those. Most people doing jumps like waltz will curve to that circle, but in Axel you want to make sure you’re using your edge to throw yourself out of it. (Apologies if this is a weird explanation, this is how my coach taught me my Axel)

    Hi Mary. Excellent tutorials. Would you mind creating a tutorial on the Lutz jump please? I practice 2 enterances, from a mohawk and backwards crossovers. For some reason when I enter from the mohawk it is much easier but I don't get enough speed so my jump is tiny no matter how low I bend my knees, and from backwards crossovers I'm having trouble to even lift myself in the air.
    Thank you so much!! Looking forward

      i just recorded my lutz tutorial! hopefully i can get it up next month :) i like doing it with a mohawk better too but when teaching, i start off with crossovers. maybe practice more speed with the half lutz?

    Dear Coach Mary,
    I just found your channel, thank you so much for your content! Could you perhaps make a video on in the air rotation technique? I can land the axel and a couple doubles, but I recorded my self jumping off ice and I saw that I turn with my head and upper torso more than my legs, and my axis is slightly tilted in the air. Do you have any tips or exercises to fix this?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @CoachMarySkating

      Hi! Blades are John Wilson Pattern 99 - I have been in these for decades. Boots are an old coach Jackson model that is discontinued, it is closest to the current 5300 but with a lower cut.

    i landed my axel 3 time 1 and a half years ago and now, when the harness is literally tied to me, I have amazing axels. the harness is literally clipped to the belt. as soon as the clips come off or the belt goes away, I pop the jump and don't go for it. everyone keeps telling me it's psychological, which ik it is, but the weird thing is that I know that I can do this jump, but it's like me body won't let me. idk what to do anymore. I've been skating for 9 years, I'm only on junior moves and haven't gotten a consistent axel. I've been competing in the same category for 3 years. i love skating, but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth wasting my parents money if I'm not improving. i just got new skates so hopefully that helps but I don't have much hope anymore tho :(

    • @CoachMarySkating
      @CoachMarySkating  4 місяці тому

      You got this! If the jump is there on the harness, you have the potential to do it off ice. :) also amazing with the junior moves, so close to gold! I have an off-ice axel guide on my website that can be helpful too!

      Yuzuru Hanyu---two time Olympic champion and multiple world-record-holder---can only land a quad axel in practice. It is the hardest jump out there and barely attainable as the figure skating world is right now. It may become normal practice in the future, but the only quads landed in competition are every standard jump except the axel, as far as I've heard.

    • @ereiniongil-galad
      @ereiniongil-galad 3 роки тому

      @@lizipearlvlogs As far as I know, Hanyu hasn't landed quad axel at all - no one has. There is footage of Hanyu attempting quad axel, but he never landed it. :P

    Something that sucks for me is that I have a competitive friend, like, we hide that we're both always jealous of each other. She's SO close to landing her axel, and I can't land mine because I am still waiting for my new skates! They are supposed to come tomorrow. Time to break into them. I hope she doesn't land her axel soon. I'm not even close, and I know this sounds bratty, but I really want to be better than her. It's just because I feel like I spend so much money on figure skating for nothing. She never has classes yet she is better than me. Sad. Haha. Anyway, thanks for uploading this, hopefully I practice this stuff off ice today or tomorrow and maybe it'll help once my skates are broken into!
    🤠

      I also have the same thing with one of my friends but we have our own different strengths. Like for example she loves toe jumps and I’m toe jump illiterate. Like it took me a whole 2 months extra to get my flip consistent and we both started at the same time. Now she has her lutz down and I’m still a big work In progress. But when it comes to my axel my coach says I have the feel for it and if I’m just a bit tighter I should have it. But my friend is no where close to her axel. Same thing with spins my sits are pitiful while hers are pretty and my camels look good and she can barely hold a rotation.
      So when it comes to a skating friend it is best to look at everything as a whole what you might think is better than her and what she has better than you. Needless to say I would suggest progressing at your own rate and your axel will come eventually. Hopefully you have it done by now. So for any future jumps make sure you are not comparing yourself so much because that’s only going to make you feel worse.
