For those of you curious. The reason why Kratos reacted so harshly to the implication that the Aesir harmed a guest is because in Greece, hospitality is very sacred. Even in the Laconic City of Sparta.
A tradition that became part of the Roman empire and even survived into the middle ages of knights and such where Hospitality was a basic 'law' that if you broke it, you were if, lucky enough, a permanent social outcast. If not so lucky, you'd not be a knight anymore.
Huh, I didn't know that. I assumed he reacted that way because when he learned of what happened between the Aesir and Freyr as a guest, Kratos may have thought of Atreus (since at this point in the story, Atreus is a guest in Asgard) and maybe started to "worry".
There was once a powerful and strategic king who was extremely courageous and always cared for his people. Even so far as he himself accepted death rather than giving up his city. His famous words were "THIS..... IS...... SPARTAAAA!!!!"
@@Bman32x That’s not necessarily true. There was a very robust trade network during the Bronze Age between England and Greece as Tin was a big export in the area and was key to creating bronze. So I’m rather surprised that there wasn’t at least some trade involving Olive Oil.

By this point, yes, Mimir’s body would become mummified and freezer burned from the mountain environment; after all, only his head was given the zombie treatment, not his body which would have been too high profile to take back. But the idea that his body was also resurrected through his head and his arms are doing the motions Mimir is unconsciously thinking of is hilarious
i love that in the 2nd Hafgufa mission, Atreus and Mimir gets awkward when the 2 Hafgufas made the bebes. But if completed with Freya, the commentaries became more sentimental. The writers clearly made this moment not to be hinted with any kind of 'budding relationship' between Kratos and Freya. They came in prepared :D
My favorite conversation is when Atreus asked why he wasn’t taught with spartan customs not because he thought he was weak it was because he didn’t want him to lose his mothers attributes and wanted him to be a survivor not a warrior
I really hope Mimir remains a character throughout the series, for however long it continues. I'd love for them to go to Eygpt and Mimir trying to remember all the God's names.
19:28 The way she talks about Hrimthur the Stonemason makes me think that she was absolutely smitten by him, I doubt they actually had a relationship or even another conversation but all the voice actors did such an amazing job for the game Edit: 1:40:00 Now all I can imagine is Freya ripping out Gna's spine and skull and then roaring like the Predator 😂😂😂
Mimir and Shakespeare seem to hand in hand a fair bit. His presence in the Macbeth story, and his time as Puck with the Goodfellows from a Midsummer Knight's Dream.
I get it now. Groa lied by omission because if Odin knew that only Asgard will fall and all the realms will survive, he might have escaped to Midgard or any other realm, thus preventing his death at Ragnarok. But because she lied about all the other realms getting destroyed, Odin stayed in asgard and tried to defend it with all his might and forcing the other realms to help him and inevitably failed.
She also lied about Gjallarhorn. It didnt exist yet, and because Odin wants to be in control and feared others may find it first, Odin had Heimdall make the horn. Groa was far smarter than Odin.
47:55 Nimue was one of the forging Nymphs am omong the Ladies of the Lake. Famous for mostly the mythology of King Arthur and his knights and famously Excalibur. Meaning Mimir is possibly from the area Arthurian legend originated. Aka: Wales/areas of Irish folklore.
He did say in one of his earlier stories that he was part of a group called "the Goodfellows" and that his job was to be an errand boy and jester of a Fairy King. I think he hinted at his identity being Robin Goodfellow, servant of King Oberon before going up north.

That bothered me a bit when atreus said baldur had no muscles. He was basically built like Brad Pitt in fight club but a little bigger. I would say he was in pretty damn good shape especially with how short he actually was
Baldur looked more like a mangy vagrant than a god(mostly by his own choice). I think that’s what he meant. It’s a question I asked myself a couple of times: does appearance dictate ability?
Im a huge fan of the Arthurian pantheon, and when Cory Barlog said that all pantheons exist, i was worried the Arthurian one didnt make it. But after hearing Mimir talk about The Lady of the Lake(Nimue), i got all excited that King Arthur, Excalibur, Merlin, exist. Or at the very least, yet to exist.
That scene where Mimir is on his own custom headstand is way to funny. As he writes his book with his brush in his mouth 😂😂😂 then started at kratos like it's everyday stuff lmao

Amazing story, he was still a God of War but this time around its a profound and transformational war he won between his nature and his strong will of protecting his son and eventually choosing protection rather than destruction.
Gonna be honest, I chewed through about 8/10ths of Mimir’s stories while stuck in Vanaheim because I couldn’t find the route to the ogre tossing boulders at you near the place with the dam.
I love Freya's story about Freyrs visit to alfheim. Her discription about how using a potent blend of Vanir herbs made him *wander*. Almost sounds like 'he was baked off his head and somehow ended up somewhere completely different'. Goodness the sheer volume of Norse lore they packed into this game is astounding. Also love the brutal conversation about how they'd kill Gná, I bet Kratos was thinking 'oh good there's three more of me now.' I love the Valkyries design.
This game is masterful with the serious moments, but I really think the comedic aspect is really under appreciated. They do such a good job with the funny moments.
Very well done. Appreciate the time it took to bring all these moments into one video. Just one question: the section with Kratos and Atreus learning about Faye in Vanaheim where the other frozen lightning is; wasn't the dialogue different if Kratos went through that with Freya? If so, I don't recall seeing that in this vid.

So after flooding the riverbed, I halted doing anything there until I got Freya back which was post-game. I was so disappointed that she provided no special dialogue anywhere except for the wishing well. I regretted not finishing the crater with Atreus. Now I can see what I may have missed with him.

Mimirs homeland is Briton. The berserker bosses are also from Briton.
I just realised that when the Norns told Freya “nothing can be done to change your sons fate” they were being literal, if she did nothing, her son would’ve been fine, they really said it like “nothing, can be done, to change your sons fate” but because she heard it instead of reading it, she didn’t understand the subtlety of their words
I hope in the next game, Mimir will be the more mythological storyteller guy. In GOW 4 he absolutely nailed it. In Ragnarök, he didn't really gave the same storytelling vibes as the previous game and was more of a main friend character (which is ofcourse awesome!), but I hope they don't dwell on his true mythological character

I picture Odin watching Mimir's hand casually wave like it did when he talked, or suddenly trying to stop something from hitting his head that's not there, like, "...the hell?"
That would be amusing to see all day Long, Till Ragnarok comes
I could imagine the body would...decayed
Basically a glorious hour of Mimir commentary on Odin and Thor's K/D ratio against the Giants
My favorite conversation is when Atreus asked why he wasn’t taught with spartan customs not because he thought he was weak it was because he didn’t want him to lose his mothers attributes and wanted him to be a survivor not a warrior
than a sodier i think
We all should be survivors. Not soldiers.
I really hope Mimir remains a character throughout the series, for however long it continues. I'd love for them to go to Eygpt and Mimir trying to remember all the God's names.
There could be an Avalon saga event, Mimir is from around there after all
@@AndereundIch even better
@@elgordo2162 Kratos with Excalibur?
I don't see reason why Kratos should leave Mimir. Mimir is actually his family now.
19:28 The way she talks about Hrimthur the Stonemason makes me think that she was absolutely smitten by him, I doubt they actually had a relationship or even another conversation but all the voice actors did such an amazing job for the game
Edit: 1:40:00 Now all I can imagine is Freya ripping out Gna's spine and skull and then roaring like the Predator 😂😂😂
For all who didn’t know, the story at 6:15 is a reference to Macbeth, a Shakespearean tragedy. Pretty cool stuff!
Mimir and Shakespeare seem to hand in hand a fair bit. His presence in the Macbeth story, and his time as Puck with the Goodfellows from a Midsummer Knight's Dream.
I find it hilarious that Mimir has no idea what the hell an olive was. 😂😂😂
Ikr that shit has me dying no matter how many times i hear it
Rainbow Dash. Good to see you. Say hi Rarity from me please.
Well from Celtic lands to Nordic ones he has literally never seen an olive in his life
*”Smartest. Man. Alive.”*
Best scene here: 1:13:52
Asking 2 bald geezers about growing out your hair. Fucking cruel and hilarious!
how did i miss that Lunda is into Freya!?! best part lmao
I mean, Lunda’s type seems to be two legs and breathing.
Bisexual Icon lmao
If you were a dwarf woman and you saw the sister of the most handsome Vanir in Vanaheim, wouldn't you also be into her?
@@cxfxcdude Accurate.
@@ChaplainPhantasm No I. Her brother is amazing but Freya is terrible.
He also talks about Macbeth and the Witches being a real thing that happened
He calls his home "The Isles", as in the British Isles. Scotland and Ireland still had a strong Celtic culture during the time of the Vikings iirc.
1 hour and 43 worth of tales and somehow it still isn't enough for me😆😆 I need more
I need at least five hours of Mimir to have my fulfillment.
@@TheAbyssalStorm Yeah that would suffice 🤣🤣
Indo-European mythology is wonderful
Still twice as long as GOW 2018's.
If Mimir was my teacher. I could listen him the entire school day and I would actually be interested in his stories.
The story on KRATOS saying he tried to throw the blades away but they came back, is a fallen god reference.
Not only that, but they also showed that during the comics where Kratos traveled through Egypt. He tried to get rid of them, yet they always returned to him.
@Tyler Flory as much as he hates them, he would've been pretty screwed if he didn't have them. I think he's over it now and will probably do trying to get rid of them. They missed the opportunity though to have the blades be fancied up in this game by surtr. The blades of surtr with even more immolation damage and more moves would've been great
@@johndodo2062 oh yeah, I'm not denying that he made peace with the fact he'll never get rid of the blades, I'm just saying that at one point before all this, during his journey through Egypt in the dark horse comics, he tried to get rid of them, but every time he did, and fell asleep or let his guard down, they always appeared in front of him. At the point he is in Norse mythos, he knows he'll never get rid of them, so it's better to just use them as something more than tools of a slave towards a god, use them for a better purpose. Then again, that's my interpretation.

A lot of content to parse through here - here's a little guide to make it easier. :D
00:00 Atreus Kratos and Mimir Part 1
11:15 Freya Kratos and Mimir Part 1
50:00 Atreus Kratos and Mimir Part 2
1:15:52 Atreus and Kratos on FAYE
1:29:35 Freya, Kratos and Mimir ENDGAME
Loved the list, truly appreciated the work to make it. Perhaps next would be the difference between Atreus and Freya dialogue when participating in side quests. Such as the song of the sands, getting Lunda’s orb, getting the elf journal, etc?
@@st5299 So THAT would require another 65 hour playthrough - don't think I'll be doing that one
Fair enough. Sorry for the troublesome request. However upon watching the vid, I think you might have missed a few. Such as Mimir telling Atreus and Kratos about the four soul parts.
@@st5299 Not technically a boat or sled story
Ah I see, thanks for telling me about that.
i feel like mimir reminds me of orkos from gow ascension
someone who knows kratos past and the things he's done, who he can confide his feelings and call friend, who will counsel him on how to move forward
and he's like the best uncle ever besides iroh
That bothered me a bit when atreus said baldur had no muscles. He was basically built like Brad Pitt in fight club but a little bigger. I would say he was in pretty damn good shape especially with how short he actually was
To be fair, the only definition of "muscles" Atreus has is of kratos
Baldur looked more like a mangy vagrant than a god(mostly by his own choice). I think that’s what he meant. It’s a question I asked myself a couple of times: does appearance dictate ability?
@@TheCorrodedMan Yes and no.
@@GameLover45408 I see what you mean. Zeus may have looked ninety but he was also a brick shithouse of the Nth degree.
Baldur look like ragnar lothbrok from vikings
Im a huge fan of the Arthurian pantheon, and when Cory Barlog said that all pantheons exist, i was worried the Arthurian one didnt make it. But after hearing Mimir talk about The Lady of the Lake(Nimue), i got all excited that King Arthur, Excalibur, Merlin, exist. Or at the very least, yet to exist.
Yeah dude that was sooooooo cool. I enjoyed the MacBeth easter egg in Alfhiem too.
we’re most likely going to delve into the irish/arthurian pantheon next, despite people’s wishes for egyptian
That scene where Mimir is on his own custom headstand is way to funny. As he writes his book with his brush in his mouth 😂😂😂 then started at kratos like it's everyday stuff lmao
8:04 Atreus asks to make an instrument and learn music
Kratos gets PTSD of Calliope from Chains of Olympus
I think my favorite is 4:28 when Mimir sits in awe at the relationship development they’re getting
Edit: Alright now I remember hearing my Grandma’s joke from Kratos and Mimir was hilarious😂
Jaw must hurt after making this compilation. Thank you for your dedication mate!
I still love that Kratos' guess for Brok's riddle was the closest
Amazing story, he was still a God of War but this time around its a profound and transformational
war he won between his nature and his strong will of protecting his son and eventually choosing protection rather than destruction.
Gonna be honest, I chewed through about 8/10ths of Mimir’s stories while stuck in Vanaheim because I couldn’t find the route to the ogre tossing boulders at you near the place with the dam.
Did not expect the fangirling Sigrun and the shieldmaidens did at the end there to Freya about Gnà. Almost as savage as old Kratos there.
When Freya was taking about Hrimthur, "He whispered in my ear..." Tell me why I thought she would finish with, "This is my swamp." 🤣🤣
Thank you for putting these in order dude, its so nice to hear half a story end and hear it be picked back up right after
Even though i have beaten the game twice, I still come back to these videos just incase I miss something. Good work bruh. 💯💯
This game is masterful with the serious moments, but I really think the comedic aspect is really under appreciated. They do such a good job with the funny moments.
Mimir's voice actor went off in this one, he so fucking good!
Indeed it was but I didn’t do that
@@VideoGameSophistry hey just a quick heads up there's a scammer that replied to me pretending to be you in this comment section. They've replied to new comments on this video.
Mimir is talking about Macbeth. at 7:05
Finally someone else posted this too!
at 14:17 i like how kratos said guest cause in greece to treat guests very well and it was a big no no to harm them
i love how atreus ask if mimir like to be in front of kratos, kratos just casually said : we tried
sound like a bunch of bros trying doing stupid stuff with each other
3:41 this is actually explained in a comic made that takes place before GoW 4! Nice little detail
Holy crap that was beautifully created and well put together
7:30 I I realized halfway through Mimir was talking about Macbeth😭😭
Arreus: how do i get muscular
Kratos: i lift things up, and put them down.
I can speak for everyone when I say this, thank you for making this
I really needed it because I ran out of stories gling thorough the game ti get platinum
Can I just say that EVER single voice is so well casted and pleasant to listen to. I wish there was a 24 hr version of this video
Thank you so much for this, I was waiting a full comp. I really hope you make the full full (2018 and GOWR) compilation one day ♥
UA-cam rules make that sort of impossible unfortunately but just watch THIS when your done here. ua-cam.com/video/uG2bR8B8UOc/v-deo.html
just add this one and the old one in a playlist
When I got to the Crater in Vanaheim and Atreus was giving his dialogue relating to what we were doing, I thought it would be so much cooler if Freya were here instead as she could share more knowledge and information about the region. So after flooding the riverbed, I halted doing anything there until I got Freya back which was post-game. I was so disappointed that she provided no special dialogue anywhere except for the wishing well. I regretted not finishing the crater with Atreus.
Now I can see what I may have missed with him.
10:00 "...Means yew've got the strength of a gawd no matter what, lad! But if yew want the _physique_ of one, yew betta' start picking heavy things up...and puttin' 'em back dewn!" 😄
"I would've beaten you"
Mimir: "the ghost of Sparta? Nahhhh"
I don't know how they'd work this into a topic of conversation but I would have liked to see Kratos talk to Atreus about Calliope
47:55 knowing gow games is all about Mythology with a twist, I looked up this lake nymph mimir speaks about "Nimue"
Turns out Nimue is actually the name of lady of the lake from the Mythology of king Arthur and the Knight's of Camelot. Mimirs homeland is Briton.
The berserker bosses are also from Briton.
Hello I truly appreciate your content and the time n effort you put into it Especially this video
I’ll tell you one thing. Stories sometimes are for entertainment.. but SMS made these stories educational! It’s everything i ever wanted!
14:15 oo, I feel Kratos took that dangerous tone at the implication since Greeks were all about hospitality of one's guests.
was worth the wait
I hope in the next game, Mimir will be the more mythological storyteller guy. In GOW 4 he absolutely nailed it. In Ragnarök, he didn't really gave the same storytelling vibes as the previous game and was more of a main friend character (which is ofcourse awesome!), but I hope they don't dwell on his true mythological character
I never heard the line where atreus asked mimir if he would prefer to face forward, i love these conversations definitely one of my favorite parts of the game made traveling the realms so enjoyable
46:46 ''The hell's an olive''.
I thought mimir learning broks riddle would be as hilarious as it tortured him. Now that I’ve finished the game…I really wish we didn’t have to learn the answer like that
“What about you brother, any pre-fimbulwinter foods your aching for?”
“Olives”
“The hell’s an olive?”
6:43 I believe he’s on about Macbeth
The fact Mimir mentioned Nimue gave me the most ridiculous hope that Arthurian legend would be the next storyline for the God of War series. There aren't any gods in Camelot, but plenty of sorcerers.
And mystical creatures and weapons
So long as it’s a land with a god of war, then it’s fair game.
I thought he was describing Macbeth.
@@nathangaspar4989 He did mention that story as well. Separately.
@@acgearsandarms1343 I remembered that as soon as I posted the reply.

100 minutes of this. Hell yeah
Hræsvelgr’s screech gets me every time.
All I can say is Thank you for this.
5:06 "Of course you're not." I love that line.
Atreus: "... I might get even stronger than you one day."
Kratos: "If you don't, I have failed."
*hardest trap Beat intro*
Did Atreus inherit the Giant's gift of sight or is that a rarity even amongst their people?
Both
Freya being flustered when Lunda called her fine is great. I agree with lunda tho
That "physical or magical..." had me rolling 😂
GoW story is simply amazing. I hope someone make a movie out of it
Who else felt as ease just listen to the stories. Sometimes it replaced the music when I clean. Just enjoying them talk makes me feel like I'm not alone in the room.
Mimir: What about you, brother? Any pre-Fimbulwinter foods you're aching for?
Kratos: Olives
Mimir: The hell's an "olive"?
The single funniest exchange in the entire game for me xD
(Also Kratos's reaction to Atreus thinking he's finally growing a beard)
11:02 this is so relatable. My mother gossips like a fourteen year old girl in prep school and then after telling us something juicy or embarassing suddenly goes “But don’t tell her I said that”
9:41
Its funny that atreus wants to have muscles because hes a god, but doesn't wanna work for them. 😂
5:37 reminds me of my brother, he’s eleven years my junior so when he started to have his first whiskers me and our dad teased him quite a bit.
god-tier dialogue all throughout the whole thing. pun intended.
50:34 Something that bothers me: the fact that it says that Odin heard a voice telling him to get the Mask and “rewrite his fate” sounds an awful lot like Athena manipulating things. Of course, the times might not coincide, but it’s a damning coincidence
It's interesting how the rift and Athena share the same color....
@@FierceDeity35I didn’t notice that. Perhaps she, in some way, manipulated events in both Greece *and* the Nine Realms. She was affected by Kratos opening Pandora’s box. Perhaps that fear stayed with her after her death, maybe said fear spread to the Nine Realms, tricking Odin into the actions he took
OMG I never heard the little awe at 4:30 from mimir when kratos says "If you are not I have failed"
