  • This video will show you how to install LED Tail Lights on a MK7 GTI. The video goes over the basic installation of these Euro LED taillights with out any coding of wiring changes. This is for someone who is looking to install these LED lights but does not care if the amber turn signals work.
If you would like the amber turn signals to work you would need to install our adapter harness and perform coding to make these MK7 European LED lights function properly.
This video will show you how to install OEM VW Euro LED Tail lights on your MK7 Golf or GTI.

Hi Guys, just here to add my 2 cents worth and hopefully clarify what Paul is saying here for those folks who are considering this upgrade. Is it worth it....HECK YEAH!
Now here are some of the finer details you should be aware of when upgrading.....
I have just completed an install of the Euro LED tails, and the whole process is really super easy. First I started by replacing the tail lights with the LED tails, and this was very simple. Pay attention to Paul regarding the slicing of the drivers side rear inner connector, which I did using an exacto knife in one pass. No issues there. The rest of the connectors fit.
Once installed, the lights worked just like the originals. The tail lights and stop lights on the outer lamps are the same just the red sections work, and the inner lamps in the tailgate do not have brake light function just the tail light function. Reverse lamps work the same, no fog lamp capability. So yes, basically plug and play so that you can drive the car right away.
BUT....and this is kinda important....be aware that the LED voltage requirements for the tail lights are a bit less that what is needed for the standard incandescent lights from the factory, and as such without the OBDEleven coding (which is also SUPER easy once you understand the simple procedures) this can be changed without any problems. In short...you will need to change this eventually if not sooner.
You will quickly notice that the LED tail lights with no coding will illuminate BRIGHTER (inner and outer), and with the subsequent application of the brake, the LED's only light up a bit brighter on the outer. You will note that this is about as good as the original lights, as they themselves show little distinction between the running lights and brake lights. THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I UPGRADED TO LED's....I consider VW screwed up a bit here as the original light setup is hard to see or distinguish between tail and brake lights. A bit dangerous I think.
For the brightness.....This is because the light level for the original incandescent bulbs is set to 27 (dont worry what this means if you dont already know, once you get into OBDEleven programming you will quickly see what this means). Using OBDEleven, you simply reduce the DIMWERT (Brightness level) from 27 to 10. You can also set the brake light brightness from 100 to 127 in OBDEleven, and there you have it...now you will have the same brightness levels as the European Golf tail and brake lights using LED tails.
Now, in order to get the amber turn signals functioning....this will require the new wiring harness set (from Paul). This again is simple Plug and Play, and with me not being mechanically functional, accomplished the installation of the wiring harnesses in about 2 hours. Be aware that the harness set DOES NOT INCLUDE the wire for the rear fog light. This wire needs to be purchased separately and comes with the correction instructions.
To "code" the lights, including the rear fog light, the provided instructions from DAP are simple and straightforward. You will need (and love) the OBDEleven dongle and software (I use my Android cell phone with the APP from Google store). First study and familiarize yourself up from the internet about VCDS/OBD coding changes (took me about 4 hours to get a grasp on this and there are a load of site with this information), then connect and code your lights.
There is even an OUTPUT test that you can use to check you have it right, plus the OBDEleven KEEPS TRACK OF YOUR CHANGES IN A HISTORY FILE...and this can be sent to your e-mail. Sweet. You REALLY CAN NOT MESS THIS UP! Trust me, I did and went back to see the changes I made, then re corrected them. Easy. Below is one website that really helped me understand this, and when I did.....too easy.
    www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f197/mkvii-vcds-tweak-reference-thread-98034.html?
I now have a set of LED tails in my golf, with the correct brightness settings and rear fog light working....basically the factory setting as it should have been made in the first place. Yes....the fog orange light warning light on the speedometer works too :).
Paul and the folks are DAP have always been happy to help me through learning how to do this, and can provide all you need to complete the LED upgrade perfectly without a lot of fuss. Not knowing where to start when you want to undertake VW upgrades is easily solved when dealing with this company.
BTW, I am in no way affiliated with DAP....just a tinkering weekend warrior and a very satisfied customer wishing to help other overcome the "imagined terror" of messing with stuff like this!
    Good luck. Mark.

I know this video is 8 years old but I just bought these and am having some fitment issues. it seems the Euro tail lights have these odd tabs/notches in the bottom and I think it's causing me to get some pretty noticeable gapping between the lights, bumper and quarter panel. These things just don't want to slide fully into place. Do you have any tips on fitment? I thought they'd slide right in but I'm not sure if I need to shave down the bottom notch things or I'm just doing something wrong. Same thing on both sides.

    Hi DAP Team,
I really appreciate your efforts, helping VW drivers in the US make their cars look like the designers actually intended them to look (Euro-spec) and not how some cost-conscious accountant at the headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, "redesigns" them to make a higher margin in the US. Very frustrating, but then there is DAP...
    I have two questions:
    (1) Can you install the plug-and-play method (without rewiring), but actually change the coding, so that the inner tail lights behave like the outer ones, i.e. blink and light up while breaking?
    (2) What is the real difference between the OEM part and the Brauch Auto part? Just the stamp on the back or is there some real compelling reason to go with the OEM part?
    Thanks!

5:35 Wait, so without proper coding the lights won't actually light up brighter when you step on the brakes? Only the 3rd brake light above lights up, but the brake lights don't actually work? That's pretty impractical. If not illegal. Seems like coding is a must.

    • @Deutscheautoparts

They get brighter just not the one that the turnsignal was on for. Most people who install these want the amber turn signals which is no doubt the best option for visibility.
