This technique is much more natural and realistic. I prefer this as it gives you more freedom to go back in and work the colors and get the affect you're after. Modulation is exaggerated and artificial and much more difficult to pull off correctly. Weathering is a matter of personal taste but I like how the mud reflects the environment this tank operated in but is not overdone and blends in with all the other weathering. Great work, awesome video! 👍
Thanks mate! When it comes to paint and weathering finishes everyone has their own taste and what they consider realistic or ascetically pleasing. I always try to air on restraint as its far too easy to over do it. Just like you mentioned modulation, though an impressive display of airbrush mastery, its a little too stylized for my tastes too. I try to keep the mantra of less is more to my approach. So far it seems to be working for me lol
Beautiful build. Just enough weathering and no rust!
Cheers mate! I try to keep my weathering pretty subdued as it's so easy to go overboard. And that is certainly the case for rust in particular as it can become an eye sore so quickly 😅
Im building the 2 from Cults 3D and the Experimental T1E5 with the spikes round the disc rollers! There 3D prints and doing the Caliope, DD the BARV and the mine flail! the lad has designed and put up! Im in contact with him just now helping with the DD making sure everything fits correctly. I've always wanted a DD and BARV ! Just a game changer this 3D printing, it's something i was always against in this hobby at the start, so bought one to see what it was like (Resin) 3 months later i was sitting with 3 resin printers going up in size's! now i can't keep off them there unbelievable for this hobby! Im away to print this Abrams X 1.35 the detail is outstanding and its a free model just now to download! Its really really nice! Want to compare it to Amusing hobbies when that comes! But yeah mate love your channel been a sub for years now nice work the leaves are always a nice touch!
That is awesome! I'd love to get my hands on a DD as its a holy grail Sherman for me! And all we had till now the only option I had was the older and extremely expensive and so be no more Resicast DDs. What is Cults 3D profile as I'd love to give it a look and maybe get myself one lol
But your right 3D printing has really changed the Modelling game for the better, as not only does it allow for modelers to create their own kits and accessories. But also I feel it has encouraged plastic companies to push the envelope on more out their plastic kits as they see that people are interested in more obscure subjects. Its nothing but a good thing for us the modeler as we get the best of both worlds now!
Also cheers for the sub, super glad you still find my stuff as enjoyable over the years mate!
Awsome machine, superb paint job. Great.
Thank you very much!
Top work Shane.....the crab looks superb 👍
Thanks mate! Glad you liked it!
I designed the original master parts for the T1E3 mine roller conversion, it's great to see it being built & to such a high standard 👍
That is awesome! You did a fantastic job designing this conversion as it would was a joy to work on! Hope you have more Sherman goodness for us in the future!
That's cool im printing all the 2 new STL 3D print conversion sets for them just now and the Experimental T1E5 mine roller there also awesome!
Yes you did m8, good to see you are still there as I wondered for a long time what happened, in anyway all the best and wish you a good healthy life ✌( Ansar )
Nice vid!!
Well done!! The Asuka Sherman kits are awesome as always!! The weathering and color modulation on the O.D. is superb. Nice touch with leaves and a nice attention to detail on the color segments of the tank's antenna. Don't forget to tie it down!😄 Very convincing and authentic. The figures are nicely articulated and bring the whole thing together. I like the addition of the leaves as well.
Always look forward to your videos, especially when it's a Sherman. This particular Sherman has that interesting mine clearing attachment.
Cheers!!👍🏽👍🏽🍻
Thanks mate! Asuka M4's are my favorite Sherman's to build! They just fall together! Though I have to admit that Meng's Jumbo that I recently built was a pleasure to build too. Glad you noticed the antenna mast sections! Its a detail I really enjoyed trying to recreate! And don't worry I will be adding a tie down line to the antenna, just waiting on some rigging line to arrive.
And don't worry I have plenty more Shermans on the way! I currently trying to source a resicast Sherman DD before they all disappear
Nice video Shane. Nice work.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Shane your sherman looks awesome buddy well worth the time and effort just amazing mate. makes me want to buy a sherman. cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Thanks Gary" really glad you enjoyed it. I put a silly amount of time into weathering this monster and I am super glad it all paid off!
Wow, this is probably your best model so far! Great layering and just the right amount of effects to give the model a lifelike look. Congratulations and thank you for walking us through the process. It was very interesting to see how it all comes together.
Thanks Michi! Super glad and humbled by your kind words mate!
It was quite the adventure this project. I say it took almost a month of painting and weathering alone! And I'm really glad it seemed to pay off! I really wanted to keep the weathering visible but not overpowering on this one!
Great job!! Looks great. Your right about working with Olive Drab. 4BO is another one that is great to work with. Look forward to the next one,
Ya 4BO is really nice shade to work with too. I'm gonna be doing a British Sherman next in the SCC.15 Olive Drab is a slightly richer hue to the American OD so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with
The M4A1 is my favourite variant. Just love the smooth sweeping lines of the hull. Next favourite is the M4 Composite, with that fabulous combination of cast and welded upper hull. Like you, I am using the AK Real Colors on the Panther I am building. Beautiful, smooth paint. A joy to use. And not as strong a smell as the Mr Color paints by GSI.
Thanks mate! The A1 is probably my favourite too. I've got about six of them in the stash lol 😆
The Ak real colors are so nice to work with, I've got more colors on the way to try doing some of the camo patterns on M4s
Looks cool.
Thanks mate!
Pretty cool beginner friendly and easy to follow how-to. Just noticed one thing, the right track (looking at the tank from behind) is put on the wrong way around (visible at 27:03) :/
Thanks mate! I only noticed that too with the tracks. Its not a biggy I don't have the sprockets or rollers glued in place so I can careful swap them out for the right racing. Thanks mate!
Hello all happy tuesday, lets see what suprise shane has 4 us 2day 😁✌
Cheers mate, hope you enjoyed it!
Outstanding work
Thank you very much!
Hi Shane
Great piece of work mate, and techniques!!
I’ve finally tracked down and now just waiting for my T1E3 mine roller kit.
They don’t appear to have Stahlhelm products here in Australia, and the chances of finding any old Verlinden kits would be a million to one.
Luckily Bold Division have released their own ‘Aunt Jemima’ kit which curiously they say to use Tamiya’s old 35190 Sherman as the host.
My plan is for an Asuka so will just have to wait and see.
Thanks for sharing your fantastic video tutorial ❤😊
The Stahlhelm & BoldDivision kits are the same, BoldDivision bought the master & released there own one. The conversion was also designed to work on both Asuka & Tamiya kits.
Hey mate! I believe the BoldDivision T1E3 is a licensed rerelease of the Stahlhelm models kit. So my older build video of for this roller should prove helpful for your project. But it is a great kit and ready to go with minimal cleanup and is a joy to put together.
As for the kits, if don't want to use the old Tamiya M4. Asuka Models M4 Fay would be a prefect base model for a M4 T1E3
@@longlance67 Thanks mate, and another subscriber told me the same thing about the kit release.
Asuka kits are one of my favourites now, couldn’t bear the thought of building an old Tamiya Sherman kit again 😂
Love you work and thanks for your reply.
Hi shane, your sherman looks awesome love the colours you are using; I've ordered some of the ak real colour paints. Also, the colours you are using as quite a few modellers are saying they are really good to use. Keep up the fantastic work you are doing. I always look forward to you putting up another video, buddy. Also, what airbrush are you using and what size needle? Cheers Gary 🇬🇧.
Thanks mate! The AK real colors are a joy to work with! They go down super smooth and level and build up beautifully. The Airbrush I am using it a Harder and Steenbeck Evolution with .3mm needle which prefect for most jobs. As it does both fine line and wide spray jobs really well
@longlance67 Hi Shane
Thanks for getting back me think I need to buy one of those airbrushes. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Hi Shane, love your videos. Is there a reason you are using laquere paint for airbrushing?
Greetings
Thanks mate! Glad my Sherman rambling aren't too nerdy lol
As for lacquer paints and my favoring of them of late. It really boils down to two main advantages I've found using them with my airbrushing setup. I tend to get finer finishes with each paint coat than I did with other paints through the airbrush. And secondly it seems to be a lot more resistant to moisture/damp painting conditions, as I live in the west of Ireland and one of the rainiest places in the county at that. And found that airbrush acrylics such Vallejo the paint struggled to dry or even ran off in some extreme cases.
So far I don't seem to suffer as many problems with lacquer paints and my favor of them in my own projects have grown as a result.
hope that helps explains my thinking behind my paints. There really isn't wrong with acrylics but I can only really spray them in warmer weather in the summer without fear.
Good golly! How long did all of that take? Very impressive!
Thanks mate! I think this project took about three months of work on and off
Nice work shane, looks amazing! Just a couple of questions really, first, did you use the rubber band tracks supplied with the kit and if so, how did you get the paint to adhere to them properly? I just finished an Asuka model firefly Ic in a winter whitewash scheme but the paint has flaked off the tracks quite badly in some places, but I'm not sure why, I used a solvent based primer as advised in the instructions but the only paint i could get to stick was the vallejo and AK mud pastes
So in answer to your question, I did indeed use the kits rubber tracks. Its strange you were having issues with them as unlike Dragon DS tracks I've never ran into issues with Asuka tracks yet. I tend prime them with Mr.Surfacer rattle cans. But in this build I just painted directly on top of the tracks using Tamiya acrylics thinned with Lacquer Thinner. And weathered them with AK/Ammo enamel effects without issue. I am not sure what could have caused those problems. Perhaps the primer didn't bind with the tracks and caused it flake off under stress ?
@@longlance67 yeah, now you mention it, it's about the last use I'll get out of the can so I'm now wondering whether it mixed properly what with there not being much left, very strange!
Where did you get your mind? Detector At
I got it from stahlhelmmodels off their web shop
Hey thanks for the info great mile great work
