Jei made such a good point. The non-existent morale and economic depression from the war coupled with this monstrosity creates such a hopeless atmosphere. How they hell does humanity even get through this. The whole trailer just had me frozen in a state of awe. So much destruction and fear.
Jei's analysis couldn't have been more on point. I told my mom we've come a long way since the strings and the man in the costume. I grew up watching Godzilla movies and was down for the destruction. Godzilla taking Tokyo from 0 to minus 1 is insane. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Toho did look at the 2014 version like, "Nani?!"
This definitely takes you back to the 1954 Godzilla where he truly didn't give a F about humanity and is extremely upset at mankind and is looking for vengeance against man
Love the music in this trailer, I got nothing but dread from it, you can scream, cry, run, try to think, and nothing matters, Godzilla seems inevitable no matter what and that is scary, can't wait for this
For the West, it's Destructive Protector Godzilla. For the East, Horrific Destroyer Godzilla. I love this trailer because they're focusing on how horrifying it would be to be near Godzilla. We haven't even seen his atomic breath.
When I saw this trailer, I couldn't wait for yall's reaction! It looks amazing and even my mother, who hates going to the movies was like, "We can make an exception for this one." lol. Let's go!
The original 1954 Godzilla was metaphor for nuclear weapons and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Legendary Monsterverse is doing the more fantastically hero route like Godzilla of the Showa era. Toho is doing the more serious destroyer route and making Godzilla in unique ways like with Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth and Godzilla Ultima. Its the best of both worlds for me. Japan audiences actually really likes the American Legendary Godzilla.
@@parsman9914I think the monsterverse hasn’t felt right since KOTM but GVK really did it in for me, the grounded atmosphere that Gareth Edwards set up disappeared immediately and it’s never been the same, the same way Guillermo Del Toro set up Pacific Rim 1 only to be succeeded by Uprising. The new Monarch Show and Minus One seem to be a step in the right direction, but stuff like the new empire doesn’t really feel all that exciting to me
I mean I wouldn’t consider 2014 Godzilla a hero considering he is doesn’t really care about humans and has been shown to kill them if they do anything to threaten his rule.
I can’t wait for this film. I really hopes it shows general audiences Godzilla isn’t just monsters fighting monsters. And shows how Godzilla is so much more and terrifying.
Anyone saying that they’re making this as something to make up for the westernized Godzilla, the director himself is apparently known to be a fan of those movies. There are even nods to the 2014 movie in this movie trailer. Additionally and unrelated…this comes out a day after my birthday and I’m excited.
Yeah, it definitely seems like the director is paying hommage to them instead if trying to "fix" them or anything. I love both japanese and us Godzilla and it's nice to see the nods to Godzilla 2014 in this trailer since the movie is underrated imo, even though the original will definitely be the biggest influence on minus one for obvious reasons. Another proof that the director like the monsterverse as much as the toho classics is the short he made for Godzilla the ride, which is a clear nod to king of the monsters.
As someone who grew up throughout the 2000s watching the OG Godzilla movies, I can tell you right now “Godzilla Minus One” is the Godzilla movie that a lot of us need to watch, it returns the King of the monsters back to his Destroyer God routes. Godzilla was seen as a force of nature in the original Godzilla movies over in Japan, we need Godzilla to return to that apocalyptic fourth of nature that he once was in the OG movies. I love the monster verse for all it is, because they gave me a new incarnation of Godzilla that I will always love, but I need this Toho Godzilla.
the design, maybe...they seem to have adapted some elements ofthe Legendary Godzilla, BUT....what these guys must've meant is the fact that they kept shying AWAY from actually showing the star monster FULLY until the very last showdown with those mutos. they were just way too stingy with showing us Godzilla itself...the star of the movie. and THAT's ridiculous. the problem with the sequel and the one after that (Kong vs Godzilla) suffered from having way too many unnecessary HUMAN characters that take away much too much screen time and story portion from Godzilla and its kaiju gang. I truly hope this one won't let me down and actually delivers by NOT having too many humans talking and taking up time and focus from GOJIRA.
