The story of this album is really sad, the original singers name was Syd Barret who was in the band for the first 2 albums. While he was in the band he had a lot of mental issues and did an extreme amount of hallucinating drugs. Eventually he was too messed up to perform and they kicked him out. No one from Pink Floyd had heard from him till 1974 when an overweight man with a shaved head walked into the studio and saw them play. They realized it was Syd and went to talk to him and play a song they made dedicated to him. He was so out of his mind he just said “it’s ok” then left the studio. And they felt shame for what had happened to their friend Syd. That they wrote this album to be about him. Although welcome to the machine and have a cigar are metaphors about the music industry and how labels abuse the bands. But wish you were here and all 9 parts of shine on you crazy diamond were dedicated to him. That encounter they had with him was the last time they saw him. Syd Barret unfortunately passed away in 2005 due to cancer. R.I.P Syd Barret.
Dark Side was my favorite until I heard Wish You Were Here, then that was my favorite until I heard Animals. Animals has been my favorite for decades now.
Song 1: I miss my friend Song 2: F*ck the industry Song 3: Seriously, f*ck the industry Song 4: I really miss my friend. Song 5: I wish we could have hung out one last time
You are ready for instant gratification. Pink Floyd has long intros to develop a mood. As great as dark side of the moon is and it certainly is a great album.I think this is their masterpiece.
Animals "rocks out" more so than WYWH. WYWH is more of a tribute album (as others have said, to Syd Barrett). However, the man who wrote the songs (bassist and singer Roger Waters) has said that the overriding theme to WYWH is loss and absence. Hence it is more reflective. Animals was their next album. Roger took his concept for Animals from the George Orwell novel Animal Farm. If you are unfamiliar with that novel, Orwell takes human characteristics and assigns them to Animals on a farm. Dogs are security, pigs are politicians, etc. Roger used Dogs, Pigs, and Sheep to represent businessmen, politicians, and the working classes, respectively. He wrote his most searing lyrics in Animals, which is a stark contrast to WYWH. It truly is a masterpiece. David Gilmour is in a class all his own, IMHO, and you will see that when you listen to Animals. Much more emotive guitar work. Great reaction! Keep going down that rabbit hole.
if you never listen to The Dark Side of the Moon album and then you listen to this album you would think it was the greatest album ever recorded and produce keep in mind those albums came out years apart
These last two videos gave been a great watch and I'm looking forward to more Floyd on your channel. Nothing wrong with preferring Dark Side to WYWH. For me, it depends on the day and I assume that's the case with a lot of people. You still have two more Floyd albums which a lot of people have listed as better than the two you've done. Animals should be next, then The Wall.
The thing with Pink Floyd is that you need to have patience. Just lay back and keep that seat belt fastened because they will try to throw you out of your chair.
What you FAIL to understand is PINK FLOYD are about the MUSIC -From the very first Note NOT the first lyric. But you are a product of this time -Speaking voices [No singing required] are first and a THUMP THUMP THUMP is all that is required
This is not true. Other than weed, Pink Floyd pretty much stayed away from drugs. Especially after what happened to Syd. Of course I can't say the same for their audience.
wait you hear the band Led Zeppelin I would start with their first album and work your way through it's spectacular it's on the same level as the Dark Side of Moon album. but different ...all are welcome in the rock family
No, you can't take The Floyd to deep. They are past deep. The band finally faced their Syd Barret issue. Something that had been brewing under the surface in their prior albums. From here on it gets laid bare. Roger's concept and lyrics get dark and desperate as the band plumbs the darker side of the human condition. In the prior album they laid bare the stress and fears that a typical touring rock 'n' roll band encounters. It touched the Syd issue particularly towards the end. Here, the album gives Syd a proper send off. But two songs, "Welcome To the Machine" and "Have A Cigar", argue what drove Syd to the drugs that sent him back to Cambridge as a recluse. Syd did not like being sucked into the machinery of the music business. He just wanted to play music.
Floyd has many instrumental sections in their songs. You have to chill with the need for lyrics all the time. Your used to the horrible nonsensical songs that come out these days. You have to let go of lyrics to enjoy actual music sometimes. What expectations did you have? Don't think you are ready for Floyd. You seem to look at the instrumental parts as just being long, like you just waiting for it to finish. So you are allowed to not like them, just stop being phoney for the purpose of likes and subs and viewership
Another work of art imo that makes my top 20 albums of all time. The composition just blows me away. ❤❤❤
You will definitely like the next album, ANIMALS.

Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here were both amazing albums!

As about a succinct and accurate summary I’ve come across.
Comments complaining "your voice is loud and i cant enjoy the music" type shit are absolutely bollocks.
Your reaction is what we are here.
This album is a dedication to their former band member who lost his mind and left the band.
Nope, you nailed it, the industry. This one will grow on you.

If you liked Shine on You crazy Diamond, you really need to check out the Pulse 1994 live performance...the shows opening song!!
You're gonna go crazy over Pink Floyd The Wall. It's probably their best with a personal close second being Animals.

@@fredtello i reacted to it a couple days ago. The Dark Side of the Moon is better imo.
Just a couple: DSOTM '73 and WYWH '75.

NO album is like DSOTM.. this comes in 2 nd for me . Check out The Wall next . DSOTM is something extra special . Just the facts☑️
I hear the similarities between Pink and Parliament on parts of this!
saludos desde España,vamos por ANIMALS,para mi el gran infravalorado.
You might call this one a slow cooker...tales a long time, but I think worth the wait

1000% agree
Keep in mind that these albums were conceived, written, recorded and consumed on copious amount of mind altering substances!

Dedicated to Syd Barret founding member who died.
Welcome to the machine. The music industry eating up artists.
i figured that was the message.😂
From the time when music was still good....
Trust your instincts
Next ..Comfortably Numb live @ Pulse 🤍
The machine is the pipeline of consumers being pumped out.
The machine is the music industry, in which the artists are merely cogs.
Go look up who the song is about "Shine on You Crazy Diamond "
Patience

Next should be Animals then go back to Meddle (you ready for a 23 min song?) then the wall
In the second part of the reaction the smartphone did won against the album. It's a shame.
You should have listened to their "Animals" album instead.
Perhaps reactions can wait until after the texting.
React to Pink Floyd - The Wall full album
