The reason as to why Keto is found at the bottom of the list is because when people start a keto diet, they quickly realize that 50 years of dietary recommendations were pure garbage.
I gotta admit, cutting sugars way-down in my life at age 63 totally increased my energy levels, my cognitive levels, my sleeping improved, my body pains from old injuries decreased by 90%, and I just feel better all day, each day. Sort of my own minor miracle.
Same thing is happening to me at 67. I now know I have been poisoning myself since my very first trip to the candy store over 6 decades ago. Also…almost overnight my miscellaneous “reward-seeking” urges have dialed down from 8.5 to about a 5 making it easier to avoid distraction and to remain “present”. Unbelievable.
I think that a lot research needs to be done about ‘what is good for the planet’ . I read that 60% of fruits and vegetables are wasted at home, then you have also the waste by transportation and in the supermarket. In homes ‘only’ 10% of meat is thrown away. Then you have all the transport fuel because the vegetables and fruits comes from all places in the world, they take more place in the transport system compared to meat and people eat more of them because they are less nutritional dense than meat. Meat comes also from all places of the world but can be more cost effective from the view of transport and nutritional density. Monoculture and poisons destroys the land. The farming of animals has undoubtedly a heavy impact on carbon footprint, but I think it is to simple to assume that plant based diets are automatically better for the planet. Also it is automatically assumed by a lot of people that persons on a ketogenic diet (with plants) eat more meat. The amount of meat can be the same as on a standard diet, but the carbs and sugar are replaced with fats from animals, nuts etc.)
When you go keto/paleo & use intermittent fasting & once a day eating with a short feeding window. Your meds go away, you don’t need many doctor appointments. You live a great life, loss weight & supper healthy & sleep well and live well & all indications much lower risk of most diseases. You don’t generate much money for industry.
If your financial advisor gave you losing advice year after year you would dump them. Never take nutrition advice from a doctor. They have been wrong again and again and again….
They keep talking and asking questions about LDL as if they have never heard of Dr Paul Mason. Normal LDL not harmful, LDL damaged by excess glucose is harmful. Do a simple youtube search please!
Pointless to have Episode 125, which is part 2 of the interview, and part 1 unavailable. I assume it is Episode 124, but that doesn't come up in a search. Searching on Gary Taubes is useless here in that part one of the interview doesn't result.
What?! Alcohol is not a food group? It is what makes a champion's breakfast. It is water and vegetables. It is pretty much a soup. Or bread if you are talking about beer.
He seems to be unaware of the harm that monoculture crops does to planet. If he had a deeper understanding of the science presented in ‘The Sacred Cow’ he would never grant ‘for the sake of argument’ the proposition that meat eating harms the planet
I'm on a low fat 70% starch plant based diet and my hgb A1C is 4.8 . CRP 0.3 Now I weigh what I did in high school. Lipid profile is excellent. Arthritis went away.
That's a correlation that doesn't imply causation. It also had nothing to do with keto. If you want to infer causation then cite a RCT with keto diets as the dependent variable and mortality as the independent variable.
I was very disappointed by the low information level of this particular podcast. For example, the implication that all dietary "carbs" have a similar impact on carbohydrate metabolism completely flies in the face of current knowledge, as does the implication that all dietary fats are equally beneficial for human health simply because they are not insulinogenic. (It is also pretty widely understood at this point that there is more than one type of LDL, and that each type has a very different implication for CVD risk.) More generally, it strikes me as superficial at best to focus solely on dietary composition as a means of avoiding metabolic syndrome and its consequences, given all of the current interest in various types of short-term fasting regimens. (It also seems to be a sign of having a non-scientific agenda IMHO to ignore the potentially disasterous impact of cattle ranching on climate change by way of the deforestation of the Amazon in the process of arguing for the superiority of a "meat" based diet.)
We know when animals are moved through various paddocks they actually improve the soil and land. As with growing fruits/vegetables if done correctly the food will contain minerals/nutrients. Both ways need to be managed in a sustainable way:)
"(It also seems to be a sign of having a non-scientific agenda IMHO to ignore the potentially disasterous impact of cattle ranching on climate change by way of the deforestation of the Amazon in the process of arguing for the superiority of a "meat" based diet.)" ? Given that the topic in question is human nutritional health, the issue of good or bad mass production techniques for either plant or animal farming has to be irrelevant. If techniques are bad (in that they presumably? do planet wide damage) they should be changed or abolished of course. But that says nothing at all about the nutritional merits of the produce no matter it be plant or animal based. It's worth noting that the world wide mass production mono-culture farming techniques used for grain production are absolutely NOT sustainable. They are rapidly depleting and destroying the planet's soils. As pm Stff suggested, sustainable farming methods include increased diversity (not mono-culture) and with animals being an integral and essential part of the equation.
The environmental issue was initially raised by Taubes, not me. I would agree with you that it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand, leading me to wonder why Mr. Taubes would be raising it in the first place.
Gary Taubes is a legend. He's saved so many lives, and continues to fight for the truth despite the constant hate.
Low carb didn't just change my life, it saved my life.
Me to
Love Gary Taubes.

I could listen to Gary all day! So smart, so charming to go with it. The interlocutor is good, too.

@@josephhuether1184 When my body pains ~quit and my thinking abilities came back, it was unbelievable to me also.

well questioned, thoughtfully answered. time well spent. thanks
I have found that possessing a degree is not a true measure of actual intelligence.

Good catch. Uploading E124.

The 5 food groups include keytones and alcohol. Your body can make atp from alcohol. Enjoy your life!
Not likely LDL, but clotting factors.

Being human harms the planet. Goodbye

Dude, trying to be unique or humorous is quite different from making an exhibition of yourself.
Have some leafy crabs if you have to.

Still peddling the same crap I see.
How so?
Glad you believe that dullard... More meat for me.
