Great video as always, Nathan. I fully agree with you on starting with a spinnong setup but i fish just about everything on casting setups., even my wacky rigs on a bfs casting medium light setup. I would defnitely encourage someone to buy a m/heavy casting setup asap because it is also very versatile, especially here in my home province in South Africa. We fish dams with a LOT of grass and structure so you need a strong rod to land the fish. However, your knowledge about fishing is way more than mine so i am not going to argue with you.

I love my bait casters but I do think the spinning rod is more versatile, they’re a must have.

I have been chasing that icon rod since you’ve first talked about it in your past videos. Every time I try to purchase one it’s been sold out on several sites I order from. May have to settle for the core series.

Kinda like shooters, it’s common knowledge that the guy with just one rifle can shoot the eye out of the bullseye!

My all purpose rod for 9 years is a medium spinning rod with a stradic. I got the 3000 size because I like the T handle. I use it for everything. Catfish, bass, bluegill, crappie, tilapia.
I like the cashion rods, I do wish they had cork handles

I'm a KastKing guy. They have great sales and amazing stuff for the price! I got a Centron combo, Sparticus 2 rod and reel, Royale legend rod and Royale glory reel and now the Valiant Eagle gold edition reel for my BPS megacast rod. You can get a good combo for under 80-100 bux. I use my gear 4 times a week and never had any issues. 2 of the rods even came with extra tip sections. For budget fishermen you really can't lose!

Kastking and Piscifun for me. You’re right, you can’t beat the combos for the price! I stopped buying Penn, Daiwa, shimano. I actually just bought two of the new Black Rovers!! Genuinely, you can use any fresh water combos for saltwater, just make sure they get rinsed off. I’ve gotten so many anglers to switch over to these brands lol I should be a salesman for them. Fiblink makes some great surf rods as well. Done with the expensive stuff. Penn reels alone are past $140 depending on the reel.. with that money I’m getting multiple reels, a rod and line from kastking and Piscifun😅😅 great brands, quality equipment

@@NoName-ux7ot Yep. I even have their sun shirts and pliers and scissors ect. The 1st Sparticus rod had a small crack in the cork handle (cosmetic damage) so I messaged and sent them a photo and they told me to keep it and sent me a full brand new rod and extra tip so I actually have 2 sparticus rods and 4 rod tips for the price of 1. Awesome customer service! I never tried piscifun but heard good things also.

I got back into fishing this year after over two decades away. I have my old rod yet but wanted to get a second rod so I purchased a KastKing because it was inexpensive.
I've only used it once so far but I noted this difference; my old rod (Daiwa Samurai Graphite, 7' medium) pulling a Jackhammer feels every little click of that bait. The new rod (KastKing Royale Advantage, 7'-3" Medium-Heavy Fast) I had to check my bait several times to see if I connected it wrong. You don't feel so much as a wiggle with that thing.
It was only one outing so I'll give it more of a chance but my 30 minute use review had it feeling less comfortable in the hand and definitely far less sensitive.
(Note: both are two piece rods)

@@MonkeyButlerLabs I have the medium fast 7ft and use it for crankbaits and stuff. I can feel alot of movement and if I hit bottom. I never owned daiwa. I have just owned old super k mart specials before owning my Kastking rods. 😂 I use a chatterbait and stuff like that on the Sparticus 2 mh 6.8 and can feel it vibrating as I retrieve it. Mine are all 2 pc also. I dont got room to transport 1 pc rods.

Love me some Cashion Rods, the Icon series is the lightest and most sensitive rods at their price point imo

I agree Nathan! My setup is a Daiwa BG 3000 that I picked up for under $100 on sale and a St. Croix Triumph rod also under $100. It's the most expensive stuff I've ever bought as all I used to have was Bass Pro rods and Shimano Spirex reels. I liked the Spirex because I was hung up on that trigger they had! Took me 60 years to stop using a trigger reel and pin the line against the rod. LOL If my BG dies, I may switch back to Shimano but, I'm gonna splurge for a Stradic. My buddy has several $300-500 rods and reels but, hardly fishes. He's so worried about his stuff getting dropped or dirty! I have 2 rods but, only because I have a drop shot rigged and, having to go from any setup and tie on and off a drop shot is a pain. LOL

I'm not sure about the newer production but circa 2005-2006 my dad picked me up three USED stradics (the old white body ones, 2000 size) from a guy that was upgrading. It's 5am in the morning, year 2024, and they are going in the boat as soon as i'm done with my coffee. One has a handle that is getting sloppy. One is missing the antireverse lever (I just leave it locked anyways) and the third is functionally perfect. I havent fished every weekend since I was a teenager... but they have a LOT of miles on them. They have treated me very very well. Clean/oil if they feel funny and keep fishing.

Nice video! I think irrespective of how much, the same philosophy w/ rod + reel holds with dress shoes - you get what you pay for, so get the best single pair you can within your budget. Question for you - with the 15lb braid, I'm assuming you use the Alberto knot for thinner dia leader (e.g. 8lbs) and the FG for larger - you mentioned up to 30. At what FC test/dia do you switch knots?
