Ironically, I got an extension similar-looking to the one you’ve got here but for my first electric guitar, a Stratocaster. That extension wasn’t really necessary. In July 2024, I wonder if I’ve still got it; that Strat is in storage, and I haven’t searched in its case for years.
In theory, such or similar extension could also be useful for other guitars and basses. I've heard the occasional complaint of this or that instrument being bit neck-heavy, and this extension clearly counteracts this tendency. Maybe it also depends on the position the individual player prefers for his instrument. Me, for example, I am a tall guy, and I have no issues reaching the far end of a long scale bass, but I know of shorter armed musicians who have. So, instead of working around this by buying short scale basses or ukuleles, an extension might just be worth trying! ;0)
Great colour - slightly jealous :-). It is a shame Gibson didnt mass produce a strap hook and supply it with the bass. Hmmh - so I have never notice lack of access to the 24th frets on my Steinberger - you got me intrigued now. I will check it out. But I dont use my thumb in such a way when accessing them (I reach across with thumb in middle of the neck where most of the teachers suggest it ought to be for leverage). I will check it out later. Saved your video to my playlist - so hopefully others will find it. Thanks for sharing. Und gut arbeitet. Ich liebe es wenn ein plan funktioniert!
Well, it is a bass, the 24th fret isn't actually the most important one it has, I guess ... ;0) As for the thumb position: I have a less than optimum left hand position, since I broke my forearm years ago, even abandoned the guitar for this reason. These basses should in fact come with a decent strap hook. It would cost them just cents if they mass produced them. I first wanted to have a clear laquered wooden Steinberger, but these appear to only be available as custom mades. Then my local dealer had this 'hot rod yellow' one in stock, besides a white and a black one. In comparison, the yellow had more 'visual punch', so I instinctively took it. Glad I did. :0) Have fun, Stephen!
do you sell any of this to USA?, I try to understand the language on that ebay page but "NO CAN DO". I didn't understand it. Please let me know I need two of this item.
Hi Doug, that is in fact a good idea. I need to find a little web space for to upload the pattern, once I re-traced it. I might as well make some of these and put them on ebay, since I start getting requests.
@@martinkopplow if you ever sell one on eBay I will be the first to buy. I’ve seen other DIY strap hooks on here and yours definitely is one of the only ones I’ve seen that looks like it could have come stock on the base because it fits so well and looks well made.
@@dougwarren6134 so I just set up a small production run of these strap attachments, but ran out of sheet metal and had to re-order. They will be available as a kit, including the nuts and screws needed, some time in June. Maybe I'll even put a how-to video here on youtube.
@@dougwarren6134 I promised I'd make some more of these for all the unbalanced Steinbergers out there and hooray! here they come: www.ebay.de/itm/234035430746

@@bustanorms2028 That could in fact be the case. The guitar has a bit shorter neck, and so the center of gravitiy might be more in the body part, while the bass is a little more neck-heavy. Anyway, in my current band, I am not using the Steinberger very much, but do play an acoustic bass, to better match the style of the band. The differences in handling between the minimalistic Steinberger and the bulky acoustic couldn't be bigger!

Is there anywhere you can post a tracing or pattern? I can’t do metal work and my friend said he would help me out if he had a pattern.

move the strap button beside the bass body, that solve the problem,no need for string extender
That's what I tried first, of course. It solves the tilt issue, but not the balance problem. That's why I went all the way and made the exteneder.
@@martinkopplow8392 ok maybe it work only on guitar,
