Would've liked to see you add water to this one in particular, as it's been sitting in the cask for 25 years. Water should definitely open that bad boy up pretty extensively!

You have to watch it with some of these older whiskys. It's very easy to drown them and the abv does not give you much to play with. I agree with you that it should be allowed to open up but in the glass for 10 to 20 minutes (something I've always failed to do).

Great review Ben! If the 18yo is anything to go by then these two ‘giants’ must be good indeed!
    Cheers 👌😊🥃🥃!!

I'm surprised it was so smoky - I've heard smoke notes can rapidly deteriorate when you get over 20 years old.

Tou Yube Good suggestion, I didn't consider that possibility.

Mark Wilson indeed, I would love to know how the smoke levels compare with the 10yo - would be interesting. Cheers Mark 😊🥃!

Almost 500euros... Thats a lot for a 25yo for sure! For example the BenRiach 25yo is half of that. For sure gonna buy the BenRiach 25 when I can afford...

    I've just bought a Laphroaig 25 for 375 euros (release 2018).
I'm not gonna drink it, unfortunally, but keep it for investment.
What will be the price in say 2025?

Because of people like you prices have been skyrocketimg last 10 years. Shame on you man.

it depends on the quality of that years bottling, but in 5 years the price wont change much because its a distillery that runs good and will be doing new 25 year old whisky every year, so there will be no shortage of this whisky in the market. In 20-30 years the price might go up 5x maybe 10x if it is and extraordinary bottling, but i dont think it really is worth it.
If you want to buy it to have something special to give to your kids or grand kids that is ok, but to buy it just to resell it to me makes no sense because the time of return on investment is so long.

Ben, there is no need to hmm, hmm, hmm repeatedly. We understand that the whisky is very good.

lorenz yacoubian I think Ben's reaction is pretty much what many of us would be doing if we were enjoying a whisky of this quality level.

You want the real honest reaction from a whisky reviewer or do you want him to constantly think what may be irritating to someone oversensitive about some mundane thing?

lorenz yacoubian let him hmm! I'm sure it's habit since it's so delicious
