That's exactly the opposite of what a true petrol head would say. You're not a true petrol head unless you have owned a Datsun with a twin cam turbo conversion.
The Alfa Romeo symbol: The Red Milanese Cross was worn by soldiers in battle, dates back to the crusades. The Biscione (large snake) is an important symbol in Milan's history and was adopted by the House of Visconti (Milan's ruling family for nearly 200 years). The Man emerging from the serpent's mouth represents being reborn. The Crown represents Alfa Romeo's world racing champion status. Lastly, in the earlier original logos, the knots on the outside of the symbol was a tribute to the House of Savoy (one of Italy's oldest royal families).

You forgot about perhaps the most important car in Alpha history, that being the alpha P3 Typo B. The famous Tazio Nuvolari drove to victory lane at the Nurburgring GP in 1938 against the state of the art Mercedes Benz W25 and Auto union Type B in what could only be described as miracle drive, that’s because Tazio’s Alpha was 3 years old by that time and on paper had no business being on track that day
@@rak6437 So does BMW but they still EVERYWHERE. If you want a reliable car then go buy a Toyota, if you want a car with a unique soul you get an Alfa, Lotus, BMW or any other actual sports car. And seriously, Italian cars are just beautiful as fuck!
I feel like they just skipped things at the end of this vid. Alfa was making only FWD cars and losing money. Then they designed all new platform and engines with RWD giulia and that saved the company. James just casually name drops the Giulia with 4C.
Typical American’s, its always about them isn’t it 😆😆. I think I heard “GTAm” and almost chocked when I heard America - just to add, the “m” = “modificata”
I can’t believe you guys didn’t mention the Alfetta GTV6... The GTV6 had one of the greatest V6 engines. Had amazing performance and sounded brilliant... Despite the cars many weird faults, the GTV6 was truly one of Alfa’s greatest cars
Came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed this. The Alfetta coupe and sedan with the GTV6 had a long and relatively popular run. And the GTV6 is one of the most iconic Alfas Ive seen.
Huge oversight not mentioning the transxale series Alfas: Alfetta sedan, GT, GTV, GTV6, Giulietta, 75, 90??? Only the SZ was mentioned (based on a 75 chassis). Transaxle Alfas were in production from 1972 to 1992. There are perhaps more Alfetta's, GTV6 and 75 (Milanos) sold in the US than any other Alfa model, so why were they not mentioned!?

15:34 I’m almost certain that’s my dads old car he was so sad to get rid of, i never knew what happened to it only that it was driven to a breakers sounding just like this, everything about it is the same. I loved that thing😭
I was gonna say the same about no love for the gorgeous 159, but then I realized the sheer number of models they've had over the years, so it's understandable. And the video is already 20 minutes long so...
As a 156 owner for over 3 years, 45 000 km and 4 oil changes after, I’d say, keeping it is a lot nicer than keeping a VW golf. Still don’t know where the reliability issues stories came from. Video showed a petrol with rod knock - I can find plenty of VAG/BMW/Merc videos of rod knock...
I can proudly say I have owned 2 Alfa Romeo cars and loved them to bits. Literally to bits. 🤣 I am proudly Italian and will always be proud to own an Alfa as you are not a proper car driver/owner unless you have driven an Alfa Romeo.
My dad used to race a GTA in the North Suburban Sports Car Club, based out of the Chicago area. It had a predominantly red paint job with a black #7 on the doors, and it used to occupy a space in the family home garage. I still remember getting to sit in the car as a little kid.
From u/DonutNolan on the donut media subreddit: So I feel like it’s my place to say something here. No, Bart is not working at Donut anymore. I don’t think it’s right for us to go into what the reasons for that are, but I can say we’re excited and supportive of whatever Bart does next. Also, we are never going to do Science Garage without Bart, he’s part of that show’s DNA, but I can tell you we have new things in the works that will teach you (and me) about how cars work. I feel doubly bad about this because the last time I talked about SG on here I said it was coming back, which was true at the time, but I am sorry guys.
i've never heard of the 156 being unreliable.. my mums had 2 of them over the years and neither of them had any issues with barely any maintenance. its mainly their older cars from before it was bought by fiat which suffer with those issues
Alex Chapman you’re a lucky man. I drove my friend’s Mito QV in Mexico and fell in love with it. I couldn’t believe how good the suspension and ride quality was especially with 18” wheels. So much fun to drive. If Sergio had brought that into the U.S. instead of the 500, the Alfa Romeo story here could have been a lot different.
11:15 "the best selling spider was the series 2 Veloce" *pictured a series 4 with entirely different cam tail than the series 2. A few other minor inaccuracies with year models on the cat the Series 3 and 4 were powered by Bosch fuel injection not SPICA though the engines were essentially the same. The original name of the spider was Duetto but had to be renamed due to copyright issues (owners of the Series 1 still refer to them as the Duetto). A couple of other things not mentioned the body was designed and produced by Pininfarina (yeah the the same ones who made most the classic Ferrari bodies you know of) also the series 3 Quadrifoglio Verde was mechanically identical to the Graduate and the Veloce trims, the only difference was a body kit and bigger rims. Saw my two of my favorite cars in a video today, I had to say something.
The correct spelling is "kamm" as in Wunibald Kamm, an automotive engineer at Die Universitaet Stuttgart. BTW, the "Duetto" nomenclature was reserved strictly for cars with the 1600 engine (built for only 12 months in '66 and '67). Cars with the smaller capacity engine were designated "1300 Spider Junior" and those with the later, larger one as "1750 Spider Veloce." I owned both a '69 Series 1, "1750" and a '79 Series 2, "2000." They both were wonderful driver's cars!
Theyre GM derived and only have looks. Too heavy, no nice engines. Alfa's misses i would call them. Especially after the very good 156 in the contrary of what this guys says in the comment about it. It was the last nice car they made till the Giulia and 4C

My first car was a 1983 Alfa Sud 1.5 Super Hatch, I was given it by a family friend in 1996, it had been sitting in her driveway with a broken engine for a few years, I got it fixed by a mechanic, re-did the interior myself and she was then named Delorus, she was so much fun to drive, very temperamental and quirky (she would never start after a rainstorm, during the storm she would, but not after)...great car, still kind of sad that I sold her...
Had a 156 back in early 2000s i sold it at a good profit. Missed it for many years after and recently bought a giulietta 2.0 jtdm170 its a brilliant little car and it shares the same engine as my saab 93 TTid aero and that has just hit 270,000 miles ❤❤❤
I'm sorry V R C that is incorrect although it is a common myth. The GTAm was not a lightened bigger version of the GTA. The GTA was aluminium skinned. The GTAm was not. it was a full steel body car with fibreglass flared guards. The Am was for America where Alfa had just started in the market with the Giulia series. It also crossed over well into the Trans Am series where it ran in the under 2L class. There are a few giveaways. Firstly if as you claimed it was Alleggerita modificata (actually its supposed to be maggiorata, enlarged) then it would be the GTAM all in capitals. the lower case m is the giveaway for Trans Am. Secondly it ran with Spica fuel injection to accomodate the American markets where emissions were becoming a concern, as these were homologated as licensed road cars.
@@22copes I appreciate your point and your knowledge. But I have to remark that the Official Driver of Alfa Romeo of the 60s and 70s, who in first person has driven and won many races in the Giulia GTAm, said that the m stands for modificata in a very recent interview. ua-cam.com/video/v2otJDpB0Yo/v-deo.html
I have a 4C and a Cayman S. Cayman S too perfect to dive, makes you feel a pro until you drive a 4C which gives you another layer where it tells you are not a pro because there’s that imperfection in driving dynamics that gives the driver a chance to control it further. The Cayman is very linear in its controls but the 4C has pulses that you have to be ready to capture that moment. Once you have captured it it’s very rewarding.
The right side of the Alfa Romeo’s emblem represents the “Biscione”,one of the symbols of Milan, which is also the emblem of the Visconti family who ruled over the city during the Middle Ages.
The only problem with the Alfa Romeo 156/147/GT was (is) the the unreliable owners. With the correct service still is one of the most reliable car ever with the best looking shape even after all those years.Specialy with the Twin Spark engine is a gem. Over 400.000 km and still running like a charm on many owners hands here. Same applies to the other models of the brand too.
Absolutely true. I've had 3 Busso-powered 156s over the last 11 years - all have been super durable as well as beautiful and brilliant to drive. My current one - a rare 2002 GTA - is my daily driver and has done over 256,000km.

Yeah then the poor guy once hadn't the time to paint it, and died in a crash( it's true, not a joke, he actually died in a car crash the day he forgot to paint the four leaf clover on his car)
And since the day he died, Alfa decided to drop half of the White square e Stick to the triangle to symbolize the loss of Jano

I've owned my Alfa Giulietta 170 petrol turbo for 2 years and the Multi air unit went costing £1,400. But it's worth it. The noise she makes, how she looks.

Proud to have an Alfa Romeo Mito Quadrifoglio Verde SBK edition, 1/200 in the world.

Saw my two of my favorite cars in a video today, I had to say something.
lol now i understand why they wouldnt make the video! I guess its hard to keep track of so much history.
Pininfarina = Hyundai Matrix

GTAm stands for: "Gran Turismo Alleggerita modificata" which in English is "Grand Touring Lightened modified"
NOT America.
Gonna give a big fat dislike for that patriotic hubris.
@@PaulRudd1941 I'm 99.9999999% sure it's a joke.
That's a weird way to say america
