*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
This is what I’ve been looking for. I have the big fish as well and wanted to add a motor, but will use the rudder to turn. A stable motor going forward is what I wanted. I love that you still have space. There is room there to add a fish finder if you changed out the control unit. I’m looking forward to your battery install and please post if you change out to a remote head. This is awesome and you did a great job on the video.
Sure appreciate the video. Do you think the skeg on the fixed motor is fighting the rudder? I have a similar set up and thinking about cutting off the skeg and putting on a safety cage. Any thoughts?
I doubt it makes much of a difference... I have a pedal drive kayak now (video coming soon). It has basically the same “skeg” on the drive, although maybe not as big and is in same location. Most prop style pedal drives have a skeg like protrusion to protect it, as you said. That being said I don’t see any reason not to give it a try, I’m always interested in mods and diys. Let me know how it goes!!!
I have a feel free lure 11.5 love your idea more than other DIY's I've seen how did you decide on having the prop 10 inches down from bottom of pod? I've been curious how far down to have the prop go without being "too" far. Thanks for the video
603 lunkerhunter might be a little different for the lure. I believe the lure is a little more flat bottom than the big fish. I’d make sure the prop clears the hull, and doesn’t create in cavitation in the water. Test it before you seal it up.
perfect. this is what i'm looking to do to my bonafide SS127. i don't need steering from the motor. I'm going to install a rudder and use the foot pedals instead. this way, it's more compact and i'll still have a useable dry pod.
I'm getting ready to do the same thing with a Hobie PA14. what size batter will last 6-8 hours of constant use. I gotta go up river 6 miles. Thats a lot of peddling and worse when the winds blowing.
30lb thrust trolling motor will draw around 30amps on high speed (5) 12-15 amp on medium (3-4). Battery size will depend on how much you need to use it and what speed you set it to. Probably 50+ amp/hr at least.
I just want to know one thing, 3 years later how did it hold up ? Any issues with flexing because it's only attached at bottom and not two points. About to start on a vibe shearwater 125 mod like this one .
The wires are ran thru the hull to a quick connect port in front and back. I linked the port in description you would need 2 males, 2 females. 1 male that connects your battery box to the boat. 1 that connects the trolling motor to the boat. I believe I used 8gauge wire if I remember correctly. I fished it thru the holes cut for the ports, it’ll be a little easy to fish the wires through if you stand the yak up on it’s end and let gravity help.
I am awaiting parts so that I may make the same type build. I believe I am going to build a battery box and have all my connections made on it. A female connector coming off the battery box, and trolling motor male connector to plug it in. I plan to remove the Minn Kota head and build a digital pwm speed control. The speed control will have a cable which will be in a tube and will sit in the compartment on either side of the Big Fish 120. Your video gave me the basis for this plan. Many Thanks !!
Great job. Ive got a Lure 135 and poured my epoxy and used a 2x6 on top as a base. Ran a couple screws down to give the epoxy something extra to hold on to. How long did you allow your epoxy to cure. I was thinking 36hrs would be enough and planned to drill my hole this evening.
Would a Minn Kota PowerDrive 55 w/ i-Pilot fit through the opening? Would it be an issue to make it so the trolling motor could rotate in the pod without it flooding the kayak? Thanks
I doubt it. I haven’t seen that one in person but, I’m guessing it’s with spot lock/gps. Either way I doubt any 55 will fit. The 30 is already pretty snug.
Awesome video bro! I was looking for this exact video because I own a 3waters big fish 105 and was looking for a way to put a motor in that same spot. My only question is, do I need a rudder?
Can I please ask what adhesives you used for the starboard? Will that adhesive also stick to polyethylene board? Thank you!!!! I’m needing to get this adhesive soon! Thanks again!!!
There's going to be too much strain on the short section of shalt where the seal is. Better to have a longer shaft with support higher up to stiffen things up somewhat.
Bought the center pod for a bf 120 w a endura c30 when I got on it water started to pour in from the sccupper holes and didn't feel stable at all I'm probably pushing the weight limit of 400lb did u have the same problem
Not really. It will come in and out that’s how they work but, you shouldn’t get more than a little in it. You can plug them with scupper plugs that can be bought or a cheaper option is foam golf balls. Works great especially in fresh water when you don’t get many waves over the bow or sides.
They come with this model of kayak. You can buy replacements on 3waters kayaks website and possibly Feelfree kayaks website. Hard to get one at the moment because of covid-19.
Great question! The rudder steering is going to give you a much tighter turning radius, plus now it can be sealed water tight. Also this was mostly a modified version of some others designs so it’s really going to be up to you individually what works best for your setup.
Bipedal Hominid Nice! I use to have a 14ft Carolina Skiff with a 15. Looking hard at the BF108 and the FeelFree dorado now. Really like the pedal drive options.
Great video , keep up the good work 👍👍 I'm from the 3waters owners group . I have the 120 as well
Glad you liked it. The Bigfish is a good platform to fish and mod on.
@@NewAgeAngler I agree I've had mine one year and love that thing.
I know Im kinda off topic but do anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
I have a big fish 120 as well and have been wondering how mounting a trolling motor would work and you answered all my questions, nice job
What shaft clamps did you use to ensure the motor is stationary and doesn't twist side to side
I’d like to know too.
that is AWESOME i cant wait to see how u installed that plug

@@NewAgeAngler I Thanks for the input. I notice the bixby's don't have a skeg. Let you know shortly. Thank you.
Cut the skeg down to about a 3/4 inch finger. It could be my imagination but I think it helped, especially in reverse. FYI.
This is what I have in mind I want to be able to raise the motor up into a well and control the steering using a toggle control.

I put the epoxy on after drilling, it was probably close to 36hrs...Maybe 48
Very nice, I will add though that if you wanna use a 3 blade, just put the blade on after you run the head through the kayak...

Can you tell me wy you din't passed the wires inside the box and passing the wires where they were before ,,,notting outside the box ????????
Awesome idea

I’d go with a marine epoxy. I don’t recall the brand but most marine grade epoxy should work fine. Usually take 24-48hrs to fully cure
Can you make a video how you installed the plugs?
Video of how you installed the plug to hide wiring?

How down does it stick out from bottom of sonar pod. I was told at least 12” to 16”
Thanks for the vid. Do you use a rudder to steer?
Yep!
where you found that box?
Great video buddy
what is that metal clamp called that is attached to the shaft?
Great video, thanks! Do you know the size of the propeller unit? Diameter and length? Just curious to see if it will fit my FeelFree Lure 11.5.
The minn kota endura c2 30 will fit in the lure 11.5 and up.
Torque doesn't make it flex?
Nope

how does it steer
With the rudder system. It’s foot steering.

And here I was thinking I was the first to come up with this idea lol.
Why not just keep it in 1 piece so you can still turn it with the trolling motor tiller?
