I don't know how much you'll be able to show us, but I'm really looking forward to seeing "your first proper session" in February. I want to see this place in action!

the studio looks really amazing. i love the colors of the floors and the acoustic panels etc. i think you've achieved the funky functional non-sterile but professional non-office-like vibe. well done.

Definitely agree with gobos + leaving the walls bare. More options for u and your clients

Very cool design, particularly the control room. My setup is much more modest. I have a Home Depot crankable standing desk with my Arturia Keylab 88 MKII on the top, and a keyboard drawer below. There's a Presonus compressor mounted on a small shelf, where my SM7B connects and a MOTU interface mounted under the worktop, my Ableton Push 3 sits on a small shelf. But I would love a nice big studio like yours ;-)

I imagine it's no small task but i think adding a "drumbrella" type panel that you could lower from ceiling would give you some cool options

How fun with the organ/keys restoration projects!

If you got an AC unit above the guitars, blowing down hot air on them, you will eventually dry them out,. they are going to need some work and the neck relief will change. Nice build! bet that room sounds cool when you are done.

id suggest you use a lot of lighting and hide the bulbs / bounce it a lot and then have all of them on fairly dim then youll get good coverage without any bright intense spots. its wild how dim you can go and still see everything with this approach in my opinion

1 vote here for guitars on the walls. I've done it in my studio, couldnt figure out a better way to store them and have them ready to use, without too much floor space. Happy Holidays!

shoot in 60fps when doing handheld videos like this, it makes it way easier
for us to see things when the camera is panning

If you want, you can also look into the option of having a "drum-brella" like they had in Barefoot recording (eric valentine) amongst other places. I think it would be a really fun build:)

The Jaspers racks are really nice for keyboards. I've got two of the rectangular racks and a few of their other tiered stands, and its so nice to have them. You can adjust the tilt of each synth and they are modular, so you can move things around easily.

As I just spent like the last 18 months laying cables for 15 synths and 10 effect pedals - all connected via 1/4 patchbays - and the sheer amount of power-, audio- and MIDI-cables (in total: at least 350) is pretty overwhelming, I wonder ... aren't you taking "setting up a synth corner with everything hooked up" a bit too lightly? Where are the MIDI connectors and MIDI to CV converters? Do you have a proper MIDI clock to rule over all of that? This has been quite a nightmare for me 😣
Also when they upgraded our 5 story apartment house with a spiral escape staircase at the side of the building, they used steel modules - each with something like a "flower pot" in the center that fit into the one below, with one stair attached to it, which then could be rotated and screwed tight to form a staircase. Maybe a better option than building a 5m tall steel monster and then wondering how to erect it without anyone dying 😉

I’m going to just re-setup my rig I had in my last studio, I’ll have a separate patch bay in the rack underneath the synth shelves, I mainly just use one thing at a time, so clocking hasn’t been too much of an issue for me so far.. maybe one day I’ll get something a bit more elaborate but I’d rather do more of a cv based setup in that case.. as for the spiral staircase we have a plan for how to brace the central pole while we construct the treads etc.. watch this space!

@@idea_farmWell for now, I'm using a hardware ERM Midiclock (the small one, not the big Multiclock with individual time offsets per channel) going into a MioXL hub and an CV.OCD by six4pix to convert clock and MIDI to CV. That allows me to remote-control even my "CV only" gear to some degree from a hardware sequencer or DAW at the other end of the room.
So far, I've been able to route and address everything without any nasty MIDI loops or doppler effects, even though I'm using 3 hardware sequencers (2x Polyend Seq and a Squarp Hapax). I'm quite happy with that setup, but it took ages to finetune - like: which synth acts as the master keyboard and which only listens ...

take a look at some Par 16's Mains voltage, the 12v ones are a pain in the bum. LED MR16 bulbs; narrow for the guitars and wides for the floor, this will sort the lighting out in the booth. dead light, easy to hang. - just a thought! r Gott nytt år
