HDAs are known as Houdini Digital Assets -- essentially a fancy word for a node. All the nodes that come with Houdini are pre-built and packaged nodes. However, Houdini gives you ultimate control over your 3D workflow by letting you have the tools necessary to create your very own nodes.
This is super helpful for all types of artists and will help you stand out in your ability to create awesome projects.
Give it a watch if you're interested in leveling up your Houdini knowledge.
