Other than the "50 cents closer to broke" this song still is right on time. If in 1978 when i first heard it, i just might be able to breath😂. And count the sylibles but you can replace that line with [sev-en dol-lars clos-er-to-broke] same count, fits right in because thats what i do when i play this song😊

I saw Randy Stonehill at Kempsey New South Wales Australia back in the 1970's. This song was brilliant. I can play this song on my guitar which is great. The morale of the song is do not smoke. Both my grandmothers died of smoking. I rest my case.

He went to a mens advance at warm beach camp, back in the early 2000 my dad bought his cds he signed them, thanks for the costumes, I did for him in the 80s! costumes, yes now i get it, at the time, they where just cloths.

When you sang that lung cancer song up in Larry's office, just after you wrote it, I thought it was one of your best songs.

The first time I heard that was in Larry Norman;s office. Randy had just written it, I think, and did it live for us. I liked it, for one, because I hate cigarette smoke so much. It sounded like a hit. His coughing in person was better than on the record.

.60 cents a pack--that was cheap even when I bought this album. But no matter how old it is, the song is still a terrific and cleverly-written and catchy message that is important and makes us laugh. And I think God smiles when we laugh at things that He's hoping we'll learn. And that definitely glorifies Him. Mr. Stick-in-the-Mud.

Nigel, It could be used of God to get a Christian that smokes to see what it's like from His perspective or just from a health/habit persp..And if they were to then give up smoking & live a longer life worship & obedience their life would then glorify God more.Christian songs can be worship or they can teach us about Jesus or how Satan/sin has tricked us..drawing us to God.

Smoking for me is kinda like Ramadan. I tend to do it for about a month a year but that month varies. Anyhow this song is hilarious. And i know its true. But for some reason I just feel like smoking a cigarillo and blowing smoke rings while i listen to it. But im completely broke so ill probably spend my last few euros on toilet paper. Maybe some food.
