That thing rips really good! Awesome review! I would consider this if it has good parts availability and on sale. It tracks way better than my Big Rock above 40 mph!
@@413RC that is what is so frustrating to me. They know it has common problems and they don’t fix the issues or stand behind their product. I bought it to have a bulletproof truck as my vintage stuff is fun but always need work. The big rock hasn’t been much better.😒
@@BriansRCStuff I know… I agree. But every rc does have its flaws and weak points and it’s limits as to how much bashing it can take. Some more than others unfortunately
Oh man I know exactly what your saying the very first time I ran my big rock barely 10 minutes of driving the rear drive shaft popped off. I popped it back in and 15 minutes later it happened again. Then the second time I ran it the steering servo completely stopped working. I mean I know all rc's have there flaws but for nearly 400 dollars I was very pissed off but mostly disappointed.
@@BriansRCStuffBuying a entry level rc and expecting a "bulletproof rc" is asking way too much. Also the wheel wobble and not tracking straight can be fixed by some shims and a new $25-$35 servo. For the money the big rock is a pretty decent basher but ofc at that money you need to do some mods and tweaking
Awesome video sir, per usual. This does look like a respectable offering from them. I’m genuinely impressed. Now I’m 41 yrs young, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what a “shabby” is…. Heard and used this saying for decades. 🤔🤔
This was actually my first real-deal hobby grade truck a few years ago (when it first came out). I was buying Amazon trucks just to get used to the hobby before I bought something nice. I will always remember when I threw that 3s battery in…it blew me away. I’ve been addicted to the hobby since. After the Thunder, I bought: Maxx (took forever from AMAIN, so I went to a local hobby shop and bought the ERevo) ERevo Typhon 6s Vortek Kaiju Rival MT10 Felony LMT Sunuva Digger A custom MT10 with a drag motor (2s, coggs with 3s but flies) Mad Van Team Corally Dementor Arrma Senton Maverick Truggy (name escapes me) And a bunch of WL Toys/ Amazon/Bang Good specials etc. I definitely recommend getting a car like this to see if you want to get into the hobby. It’s a great introduction and they are very good at getting you parts quickly.
I have had this same one for a couple months now. Great beginner car, amazing speed, lots of fun. The servo saver is my biggest gripe, it has loosened up over time and the turning radius is fairly poor now. Decent durability, I have broken a few things, but I'm running 3S, so at that speed and weight you'll break a few things. As you said, replacement parts are becoming more available. The shell is the weakest part, both of mine tore up very quickly. I am looking to replace the remote too.
Use shoe goo and thread tape for showers to preserve body shells. Cut the tape to fit, stick it to the inside and then spread the shoegoo over the tape until the body is covered. I do ALL my shells like that amd they last forever
Would you happen to know if the ESC can handle an 80c battery? I just bought a Thunder and aftermarket battery- still 7.4, 5200mah but 80c instead of the stock 30c. Ok to use or bad idea??
@@alanlo-557 Alan, It is ok to use the 80c battery. The c rating is just what the battery is capable of delivering without getting too hot. The higher c rating batteries get heavier because of the larger conductors and the like. Having a higher c rating does not make the motor and esc use more current for the given voltage, it just can handle more.
@@jimn6sxb644 it also seems "punchier" and maybe a tad faster (despite the extra weight of the heavier battery) but I'll have to run the stock vs 80c battery back-to-back to confirm that impression
Thank you, i was going to ask about the price, still can't believe its that cheap and that good! Appreciate the info, gonna order it tomorrow, what a deal! 👍
I know that you made this video a while ago but i just recently bought one for the sale price of $167 on Amazon. Its well worth that price but i wouldn't pay any more than that bc of it having plastic suspension holders that i replaced with original and then jad to replace that with aluminum. Most budget friendly cars that ive been looking at, have metal front and back suspension holders. That was an extra $40 but also well worth that particular part. Also i dont even bash as hard as you do and they broke on me twice bc of it being so nose heavy on jumps. Ive learned to control it now and its great! Thanks for the video but it definitely needs aluminum, brass, or some kind of metal fir the suspension holders and thats my only complaint so far. Thanks again!
I totally agree. I try to keep my expectations fair based on the price and what you’re getting for that price. I never expect budget bashers to be able to handle massive jumps
@@413RC hi, glad to see you are still around, is your car still alive? like the guy above i just ordered on Amazon, with international shipping it came to about 189usd...is Amazon getting rid of them? there are very few videos about them and most seems to be from a 2-3 years ago, would you recommend to cancel and go for the Hosim X08? that seems more popular/recent, and probably quite more solid, but they seem to have an issue with drag brake from about 1 year ago and im reading mix comments about it being fixed or not, this Thunder seems to be slightly bigger (truck version) and fits the big batteries, which one would you recommend? With shipping, and extra batteries i would end up paying about the same, thanks.
@@402Racing Depending on what you plan doing with your RC I dont really like the X08 due to the motor mount and cheap chinesiusm metals they use. Check out my Gorgon video if you haven't already
@@413RC i have not, availability its kind of an issue here (Mexico), my plans with it are basically what you did, light bashing on different surfaces, no crazy jumping. I'll take a look into those others just for research, btw i own a Hosim 1/16 truck and i like how solid it is, but it ended up feeling a bit small, i own another 1/18 wltoys so i wanted something that feels big and more "planted" to the ground. My ultimate dream RC is the Redcat Vigilante that is 1/5, anyway, thanks for repliying man.
Excellent review. I have one ordered. The thing that all brands can do 😅is have inventory of upgrade parts, preferably steel. Any hobby class car should otherwise I consider them disposable or become rat rods
fyi, is a very tight fit upgrading the servo, any servo higher will rub on the center shaft. i used a couple of washers to move mine out slightly lol i never noticed the body roll so much on the bugsta, same machine same size but less grippy tires. you can fit sway bars to these tho oh and loose dirt 100% gets in the gears of these - upgrade to steel pinion and spur (I laughed when you said it comes with a spare spur - the pinion is also made of butter) i dunno for sure but that "1/8" nitro looks like the 1/10 FTX Zorro, which is based on the VRX Octane, also FTX Outlaw the brushless vrx cobra is probably a better deal than these, 215usd
Yea I have a bezgar blade same car. Everything is spot on with servo and dust getting in places. Spur gear on mine got stripped all of a sudden. But all in all fun car.
@@ampg8862 all of my stripped spurs are explainable, motor moves, rock gets in gear. I've just run 8 battery packs thru my vantage on a plastic spur with steel pinion and its still going well, dusty as hell, but I used polymorph plastic to seal remaining gear cover gaps. I have a steel spur ready to go when it does die. with the washers, I put them between the servo mount (4 screws) and the servo to move the servo away from the shaft. the metal servo saver seems like an expensive upgrade I haven't bothered yet, instead I just removed the spring and glued one together seems to work okay. It doesn't seem to save servos anyhow, my 2nd hand bugsta came with a destroyed servo
@@ampg8862 also noticed someone had done away with that hellish e clip on a standard servo saver and replaced it with a snap ring on one of my 2nd hand cars. It isn't the only e-clip on these cars I might order some

I think that’s the biggest take away. Set your expectations appropriately! My next video is going to be on the MT10 Rival and DAMN that thing takes a beating
If you would let Laegendary know, I had mine out and broke the lower front suspension arm making a turn on asphalt. If they could beef these parts up it would be helpful. I only got to run the car less than 10 minutes out of the box. It did track great.
I just got mine today and ran around the grass, asphalt, and sand. It held up and it handles great and is a blast! I am going to upgrade the shock towers and axle pin retainers. I like it!
Wow! Awesome video. Can you share or direct me to servicing the bearings for these? I am new to this and want to make mine last longer. Just got the laegendary truck and love it!!! Thank you sir for your time and for posting the 3S battery.
Hey there! While I don’t know the exact bearing sizes you can either check the manual or get yourself a digital caliper for under $20 on amazon and measure them. They should be fairly normal sized bearings
Hey thanks for the great video. I have this car and love it, just ordered the 3s batteries you linked for it. If i may ask where did you get your ramps from? I'm having a heck of a time finding curved ones -ty for any info.
I have had this truck for 9 months. I can say do not do anything extreme with it. it breaks very easy. I have replaced so many parts. And after market parts that are quality are non existent. how did yours hold up over time? Ok cool. I’ll give it another chance and just rip it around in dirt or at the beach. If it breaks again, oh well. Do you recommend a similar 1:10 that is more durable?
I bought a legend about 2 weeks ago looking at there parts list some parts are out of stock or I don’t see them make me think of returning it. The car runs nicely.
Dont do it. The parts you get from them are junk and probably worse then the original parts. I do not bash this truck at all cause it can not handle it.
Cool little first time buy, or just a cool little grab and bash truck, my only input, sealed diffs should be a must and adjustable servo saver, also different shock placement they seem a bit to exposed out front, I didn't see how they fit into the arm's but if they are just out front then they should try to set them in-between the middle of the arm's more just so they don't break their mounts, also it might be over kill but if they put good aluminum body shocks on their rigs people will pay the difference without a complaint, it's just worth it to have longer usage oh put shock boots on as well, that's something I wish I had when I started out, but other than that it seems like a solid little basher, just make sure spares get to us in decent time, glad to see these Amazon makers stepping their game up a bit, not every hobby grade rc has to be 350 to 400 dollars for a good bare bones rc, it just has to work and hold together at a good value.
awesome input! I will definitely let them know! I agree with all of those changes. After the video I was sending it 15-20ft high in the air in my back yard and its still kicking!
Would a dust net help. I like that it's upgradeable with 3 wire electronics vs the hosim that has a combined reciever esc. Thank you for the in depth review
Nice looking truck.. question.. When you pointed out the gears grinding and clicking, Both my wltoys started that 104009 once I started jumping them a bit and breaking cvds. How do you fix that noise? Both my 104009’s make the same sound now.
I would say fix check if your CVD’s are bent and are hitting something. Next I would check the differentials to see if the teeth are worn or possible the gears inside the differential are worn
My remote no longer binds after 1 use. I've tried resetting it a 100xs, even purchased a new remote. Sometimes I can get it to run without the remote and then it stops once I hit the throttle 🤷🏻♂️
If it's good for 3s is it good for 80c battery? I just bought one and bought spare batteries-- Still 5200 7.4v, but the aftermarket batteries I bought are 80c. Thanks! Edit: I watched this rest of the video. Thanks! Battery "C" parameter confuses me I think. You can buy an 11.1v 3s 50c Zeee or for $1 more you can buy the same with 80c. Wouldn't it make sense to spend the extra dollar??
i just got my thunder and it runs great. i have a question for you rc guys. i want to thro a 3s battery in it but they recommend a c rating of 30. laegendary is the only ones i see with a 3s battery with a 30c rating that still has that 5200 capacity. but i see plenty of 80c batterys that i can get two for the price of one laegendary battery. do they just say use 30c or is there a real reason not to go past 30?
Batteries deliver the power you ask of them. A higher c rating is just the current the battery can deliver without over heating and harming itself. The motor and esc will ask for and receive the same power with both batteries. You just don't want to ask for more than the battery can deliver.
I actually have 3 Of these cars, I upgraded 2 of them with better tires , the metal frame, 80a hobby wing escort an a 3650-3800kv redcat racing motor an a red cat racing 3650-4370 brushless motor, upgraded the shocks, an the one I kept original is still working great, I've went to a metal spur gear, an went through a couple pinion gears but that's the hobby, all around good car, I have over 31 r\c vehicles an boats, I'd say this car is about a 6 an a half out of 10. Until ya upgrade it then I'd say a good low 8

LOLLLL! It’s not too shabby. So it’s still a little shabby 😂
Shabby like cool ya dig
Shabby means: trashy, uncared for, poor condition
Sweet video! Cool to see what the Blade is like. Great review thanks
This was actually my first real-deal hobby grade truck a few years ago (when it first came out).
I was buying Amazon trucks just to get used to the hobby before I bought something nice. I will always remember when I threw that 3s battery in…it blew me away. I’ve been addicted to the hobby since.
After the Thunder, I bought:
Maxx (took forever from AMAIN, so I went to a local hobby shop and bought the ERevo)
ERevo
Typhon 6s
Vortek
Kaiju
Rival MT10
Felony
LMT Sunuva Digger
A custom MT10 with a drag motor (2s, coggs with 3s but flies)
Mad Van
Team Corally Dementor
Arrma Senton
Maverick Truggy (name escapes me)
And a bunch of WL Toys/ Amazon/Bang Good specials etc.
I definitely recommend getting a car like this to see if you want to get into the hobby. It’s a great introduction and they are very good at getting you parts quickly.
It’s easy to get addicted to this hobby! Lol
Absolutely! Maybe if they redesigned it or used a better material it would hold up.
I might pick up another if they are still $110!
@413RC Going to be ordering it soon. I'll let you know what I paid, Such an insane deal.
Good video and the dirt looks fun, ordered one yesterday,
I know that you made this video a while ago but i just recently bought one for the sale price of $167 on Amazon.
Have you looked at the Arrma Gorgon or Arrma Boost lineup? They are around the same price and you get the part availability that comes with buying a name brand.
My ultimate dream RC is the Redcat Vigilante that is 1/5, anyway, thanks for repliying man.
...and here I am owning 3 of Laegendary rc's. I currently own the Sonic, the Tornado and surprisingly my favorite of all of them...the Triton!
Nice!! These are great for the kids. Can’t wait to see your new blx unboxed n rippin!!!🤙👍🏻

Excellent review. I have one ordered. The thing that all brands can do 😅is have inventory of upgrade parts, preferably steel.
Any hobby class car should otherwise I consider them disposable or become rat rods
also known as an FTX Carnage (they just released a new version of that) or VRX Sword
fyi, is a very tight fit upgrading the servo, any servo higher will rub on the center shaft. i used a couple of washers to move mine out slightly
lol i never noticed the body roll so much on the bugsta, same machine same size but less grippy tires. you can fit sway bars to these tho
oh and loose dirt 100% gets in the gears of these - upgrade to steel pinion and spur (I laughed when you said it comes with a spare spur - the pinion is also made of butter)
i dunno for sure but that "1/8" nitro looks like the 1/10 FTX Zorro, which is based on the VRX Octane, also FTX Outlaw
the brushless vrx cobra is probably a better deal than these, 215usd
Yea I have a bezgar blade same car. Everything is spot on with servo and dust getting in places. Spur gear on mine got stripped all of a sudden. But all in all fun car.
Also tried to upgrade the servo saver with aluminum and it won't fit correctly. How did you use the spacers exactly?
It isn't the only e-clip on these cars I might order some
That rig is ripping, bro!
It’s really not a bad option for the price!
I bought 2 of these this weekend at Big Lots, $39.99 each. I have no idea why they were there, but production date on boxes were both 1/24. Both boxes sealed, and everything inside in good order. My lucky day, I guess.

There are so many cheap RC cars out there that take a beating. Like you said, just understand the limits, and they are so much fun. My only RC’s I haven’t broken are the HBX 1602 varieties I have. Even let kids bash them at the skate park. Never had either of them apart or repaired 🤷🏼♂️😂
It did track great.
unfortunately Laegendary seems to be discontinuing this model

Lol! Not every truck can handle that! I try to test vehicles within their limits lol
I have had this truck for 9 months. I can say do not do anything extreme with it. it breaks very easy. I have replaced so many parts. And after market parts that are quality are non existent. I have finally decided to trash the truck and now just have used it for the esc and motor on a amoril buggy.
The wheelie bar is challenging to put on
This might be a silly question but do you think this is better than the hosim x07? His one seems to be more of a hobby grade then the x07
I would choose this over the Hosim x07. More hobby grade and easier to work on. I like the design much better
@@413RC awesome thank you! After watching a few more videos I decided that also so I appreciate you confirming that! The floating motor on the x07 is a bit questionable to say the least

@@413RC was the part the tire connects to. The metal cup/spindle part.It just bent. Well same with this car parts are limited cause always sold out. But I found an outlet that ya can get the parts for this car, they are on the site ali express. The parts say compatible but they are the actual parts
Hey man, the Tornado is a Xingelong or Hosim 9156 or 9155. Lots of parts are available for it. It can be prone to breaking, but it’s easy and cheap to fix. I have 3 of them. I converted one to brushless for me, and the others my kids bash around.
Its definitely not in the same league as the Thunder truck
how did yours hold up over time? I got one today and it broke it in about 5 minutes...i did a wheelie and it rolled backwards and one of the rear suspension assemblies ripped from the chassis and the whole wheel/shock went flying form the car...the part that broke seemed extremely weak..i'm just wondering if your's held up well and if you had to replace anything...I ordered a replacement car, but if you found that it's super fragile, I might just return it...I don't want to have to fix it all of the time...
Mine held up pretty well for light bashing and speed runs. It’s definitely not durable enough to send over houses or off skatepark jumps
Ok cool. I’ll give it another chance and just rip it around in dirt or at the beach. If it breaks again, oh well. Do you recommend a similar 1:10 that is more durable?
@@druunderwood the Arrma Gorgon with a brushless system is pretty fun. It’s 2WD though

This vs the Legend. Thoughts?

i just got my thunder and it runs great. i have a question for you rc guys. i want to thro a 3s battery in it but they recommend a c rating of 30. laegendary is the only ones i see with a 3s battery with a 30c rating that still has that 5200 capacity. but i see plenty of 80c batterys that i can get two for the price of one laegendary battery. do they just say use 30c or is there a real reason not to go past 30?
C rating has to do with the “punch” a battery has. I don’t think you would have any issue going higher than 30C. Just watch your motor and ESC temps
Batteries deliver the power you ask of them. A higher c rating is just the current the battery can deliver without over heating and harming itself. The motor and esc will ask for and receive the same power with both batteries. You just don't want to ask for more than the battery can deliver.
Where did you get the ramps
