Thank you for this! I just got into PvP a few days back and was very discouraged due to weak targeting. I was focusing so much effort into targeting correctly that i would be a sitting duck for the enemies. I’m a controller player on the ps5 so i hope these settings work for me as well as they do everyone else. Thanks in advance bro!
Thank you! I'm a new player and didn't even think to check keybinds. I was looking through gameplay settings and was so confused why the tab targeting was so awful.
FF14 is the first and only MMO that I've experienced such a huge issue with simply targeting what you want. Let alone clicking a target and it never targeting, because of the various things that apparently block clicks whether it be some invisible hitbox on your HUD, markers, and whatever else. Through most of the game it doesn't matter since you're never really targeting much, but once you get into Frontlines and PvP is where you really start to wonder "how the hell is targeting so bad?" So many times someone will get away with 1hp just because you can't freaking target them.
Super helpful tips. The reason why I need something like this is that I'm quite frankly tired of diving behind enemy lines when I want to engage in the front with everyone else. REMEMBER EVERYONE, THERE'S A TIME TO DIVE AND A TIME TO NOT!
ok I thought I was crazy... I just hopped into my first PVP game and I was immediately noticing it was near impossible to target people effectively excited to see how these changes help! Edit: I doubled my damage compared to my first game. I was still the lowest in the game tho
God, I hope this helps. It's so frustrating trying to use certain skills during scrambles. if I try to break targetting and just let the auto-target find someone close, more often than not a summoner all the way in narnia clips me with an aoe and now i'm left wondering why my attack isn't - oh, I'm dead.
I had set up just a macro to target nearest enemy during pvp and had somewhat trained myself to cycle it into my rotations, but this looks like it'll help more 😃
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! As for your content idea, that's definitely one of the many things I'd love to get a video, or possibly series, out on. Just gotta find the time, lol.
Ok so this is helpful but why can’t Square just make normal functioning tab targeting like wow? Like I press Tab in pvp and it targeted someone way in the back line that’s completely out of range
Happy to help, and welcome! Swapping to XIV after over a decade of WoW was a really positive experience for me, I hope you're enjoying it just the same.
ok, I must be dense: what is the cone keybind? I set TAB to nearest (which I should have done a long time ago anyway), change option to Cone - but what is that "cone keybind" supposed to be? I don't see any targeting for "next/prev inside the cone". Am I missing something? 😢 EDIT: oh, derp. one of those things that become immediately obvious when you actually USE it. apologies. very, very nice. why this isn't default is beyond me.
is it just me or, option is gone? i dont see any of that on target setting. edit: nvm, thanks for the tips. went on here after doing first pvp. was annoying AFFF
Hello! I just checked, and the change was that they added the "auto-target settings" above it, and I have both of those options unchecked. Right below those are the same settings mentioned in the video, which I still have set to "Cone". Even with 6.1 and Crystal Conflict out, I still use the same targeting setup from this video!
Unfortunately I don't own a controller, so I'm not a good resource for that right now. I would certainly love to get one at some point and do a Crystal push using one so I can add that to my knowledge base. My buddy @johnisdead has talked me through it a little bit in the past since he plays exclusively with a controller. I'm not sure if he's got a controller-based targeting guide, but I am sure he'd be willing to answer questions about it if you checked that way 🙂
I'm sorry, but this doesn't work me. Lets say i'm being attacked by 3 enemy's and they're standing right in front of me - 1 meter away. When i press "targed nearest enemy" i'll get everything as a target, but not one of the 3 attackers... And sadly "targed nearest enemy" wont switch through targets rather keep it until i manual change it. When i switch through the targets with the regular tab i can easily spent 5 second to get the target that i want to and ... yes ... i'm already dead at this point. And yes, my target setting is not set to "from left to right" Anyone n idea? This is a cry of help =(
Dude this was a total game changer for pvp and pve. Thank you brother.
I love to hear it, enjoy! 😄
Still helping out new pvp players to this day like myself, appreciate the video dude.
Changing the tab to nearest took away so much of my PVP targeting headache.
This is great! Thanks not only for providing the info, but for keeping it short and clear.

Make a lot of sense man. I appreciate you, I was wondering why the targeting was so off

I actually have had a bad habit of just tabbing, but after seeing how smoothly you control targets (2:30 & 2:40) I actually want a second bind now.
Knowing how much you play Frontlines, and particularly how often you play ranged jobs, you're going to love it =)

Thank you so much, the standard tab targeting was driving me insane! ^^"
this made such a huge difference, wow
TY!!!! the targetting section was super helpful
Game changer video. I was wondering how to have more accuracy targeting ennemies and I was looking for a solution for 24 hours.
Thanks a ton, final targetting has been balls
I need to tweak those settings asap. I was trying to change how i target, and i didnt even knew those options existed. Great video
Whenever I upload videos, this is pretty much exactly the comment I'm hoping to see. I'm really glad it helped you =)
bruh this might change everything. thank you
Excellent video!
I play on controller, but I had no idea that cone ignored LOS, so thank you for pointing that out
I'm glad there's good value for controller friends as well =)

can you make a video about strategy? things like pinching, charging, retreating, and how/when to effectively put them into practice? great video :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! As for your content idea, that's definitely one of the many things I'd love to get a video, or possibly series, out on. Just gotta find the time, lol.
@@Calmlamity awesome! looking forward to your future videos :)
Now I just need someone to make this but for controller users ;')
Exactly
thank you for this
Nice video, I was having some problems with targeting in PvP and during fights I was kinda useless.
I hope changing up your targeting binds helps you as much as it did me :)

omg players are actually running the other way!!! lol thank you so much!!!
As a WoW refugee addicted to tab-targeting this was a life saver. Many thanks!

@@Calmlamity been playing it since January 2021, still no regrets.
Thou at times i miss my brutish orcs and double jumping demon hunters.

at 1:46 in video, that screen looks different now than what you show. SE changed the options. with the new menu, what would be best selections?

Mind doing a targeting guide for controller players?
Unfortunately I don't own a controller, so I'm not a good resource for that right now. I would certainly love to get one at some point and do a Crystal push using one so I can add that to my knowledge base.

Ok now I feel stupid lol
Lol dude your UI is MASSIVE
Lmao, TO BE FAIR, *was* massive. It's been shrunken down a bit since then 🙂
@@Calmlamity lol, hey, whatever works 😂
Tab targeting is so archaic and everyone knows it. Idk why ppl keep making games with it
