Did my mods on the Adder. Took me a whole Sunday in the workshop. A screw on the trigger mechanism broke off and I had to drill it out (took 4hrs and 3 drillbits, none of which ended in my hand though 😋) Recommend to all who consider modding: when you have the trigger disassembled smooth the edges of the string catch. It is kind of Sharp edged. Your string will thank you. Furthermore I added a washer to the cross bar and some tape to the stock holder insert (whatever the proper name). Now everything is much more sturdy.
But the Viper/Stinger and Adder crossbows/magazines predate the Instant Legolas and Fenris. The earlier concept and prototype are even older. And the whole history /series of them is a great watch.
I am so glad for your success and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving hard-working man........ WHO CLEARLY HAS ENOUGH YEARS ON THE INTERNET TO SHOWCASES SKILLS!!!!!!!!!!!
As someone who has worked with a lot of trigger blocks and sears before... I'm biting my fingernails in fright watching you disassembling the triggerblock while standing up and holding it in your hands only! 😱
A word of caution, now that the safety is manually operated ,when changing the string it is paramount to engage the safety because any accidental press on the trigger will incur an unpleasant experience!
I recently built a 48 inch long throwing arm for a home built cross bow where I used two layers of three fiberglass rods per layer. The rods are typically used for marking the edge of driveways after it snows for the purpose of keeping the plow off the lawn. I lightly sanded each orange fiberglass rod. I then laid three for the first layer side by side and temporarily used tape to keep them tight to each other. I then ran super glue down the abutting surfaces. Once the glue set I flipped the layer and glued the seams on this side too. I repeated the process for the second layer. To laminate the layers together I first taped them together. I then every 6 inches tied a loop of perhaps 10 turns of string. However after each winding of string was made I soaked the winding of string with super glue. The end result is a fabulous, but cheap throwing arm. Depending on the power stroke's length you can have different draw strengths. The one I am using is roughly 80 pounds, but it could be increased if desired. I don't know what it could max at but if I guessed I'd say 115. Unless you like safety orange throwing arms its a good idea to paint the arm as I did with a quality spray paint that bonds well to fiberglass. If you want to feel real secure about the layers remaining in alignment I would soak your two tied areas in super glue and of course your string can't be a waxed string but I found any string does well especially after soaked in super glue.

Glad I have the five round magazine too, but yeah, it's not that easy to fill with the arrows because you always need two hands to hold the lever open and fill in the arrows. This fixed some of my questions i had. Maybe I will convert my Adder into a 180 pound version too! And i will build me a few broad head arrows. Greetings from Frankonia...
@@Lonewolf_rider There is a problem with these instructions, I ordered two of these 90 lb throwing arms to upgrade the strength of my bow for the grizzly in the area. Neither have string stops. I'm in a position where I decide if I should use the limbs or not. I may need to use the bracket from the 130 lb limb and then I won't be able to hot swap. Unless I use the bracket that has no string stop for the 130 lb limb... thoughts? How and where did yours break?
Liking the video. I might make some of my own on the Adder. I'll probably start with an overall review. There are some changes on the Siege which would serve an "Adder 2" model well for people who would like to stick with recurve bows. I'll probably add some more things such as the fact that since the stock doesn't house a recoil spring (like on the AR15) you can pop the back off it (the Adder actually comes with two butt plates for the stock depending on what you prefer; at least from GoGun) but inside the butt plate you've got a hollow cylinder which is perfect for string wax and then two separate cavities in which you can put disassembly tools such as Allen (hex) keys as well as spare red dot batteries. I absolutely love the modularity of the Adder system and think that it could be taken a step further, much like modern rifles where you can remove one part and swap it out for something entirely different. Such as different handgrips. Different stock systems (such as ones with a variable raised cheek rest), different safety systems (one from GoGun which is built to not be a 'safety on cock' system) and a reinforced cocking transport mechanism that allows the user to swap things out for something reinforced, potentially with a heavier draw limb (throwing arm) included. Or even heavier but more durable parts that use more metal rather than polymer so they really take abuse. If I had a job at EK archery one of the things I would do is gift 10 bows to 10 'guntubers' who have some military experience who aren't currently deployed and ask them to stress test them. I think that having the Adder (or Adder Siege) "1.0" as a starting platform and offering changes to it that you can buy with assembly instructions is the future of archery. A few enterprising individuals have already started selling non-EK upgrades for the Cobra and Siege platforms but if EK got on top of this they would be the *first* modular crossbow manufacturer. Long arrow mag designs have been created for these bows. Different loading systems have too. However they aren't sold by EK. If EK & Steambow (for the Fenris) got into that market they'd continue with their pattern of making better bows. If the idea caught on you could potentially even go to GoGun and 'build' (pick out parts) your own Adder or Siege at the checkout. You'd retain the warranty as all parts would be given the okay as they're all first party mods, more people would buy and a modular system makes it more difficult for copycat manufacturers to undercut the design. I feel that making a truly modular system is the future of crossbows. I've modded my old Armex Jaguar to have an underslung picatinny rail. I'll probably look for non-destructive ways to mod my Adder. But if EK started releasing 'tuning kits' that changed things up a little (heavier draw, precision buttstock, stronger levers with less play) I'd buy that.
@ Joerg Sprave, would you be able to get a new Adder Mark 2 in production that already has all these upgrades? All these upgrades seem pretty essential if you are to market it as a premium product. I absolutely love the concept of the product though. People would be willing to pay more for a higher quality system.
Hello and welcome to the crossbow channel! I'm so old, I remember when this channel was about actual slingshots ... just kidding Jörg, I get it, you've gotta eat ;-) Congratulations on the commercial succes of the "Adder" I hope EK Archery and Steambow know and appreciates the big part you've had in making it a succes!
Joerg thanks for being there. I admire your concern for people to feel safe in their homes. You are tireless in products your ingenious thinks of every day. Have you thought of how to use compound pulled on the adder so the operator does not feel the draw weight. and component parts to face the force of 180 lbs?
Anyone who has taken apart the adder to mod it will agree with me how well engineered it is, how sturdy it is- especially at it's price point. It is an exceptional peice of kit. The fact its upgradable by - like me - an eejit with zero engineering experience is awesome.
Mate the content of your video is amazing, good work i really enjoyed it, but if you can fixed the lighting, so we can see every thing clearly is much appreciated. Thanks
It would be haunted by your ghost since he accidently killed you with just a casual gesture he made with a contraption just to show you its features. You did not wear a safety t-shirt.
Which leads me to my challenge! Can you make a belt to feed bolts through your invention? You can try either modern or medieval technologies! Imagine how much you could make by inventing a universal belt which could be used in multiple devices...
Obviously a parts kit with these little pre made especially the stiffening bar would be handy Especially for the Heavier bow weights, Being able to buy steel replacement parts would be great
I absolutely LOVE the Cobra ADDER! in its Version 2 configuration, and the Millions of Hours of R&D that Joerg has spent developing it, to get such a GREAT!! Product to Market, You Are Awesome Joerg!!!. I can see at least two or three areas inside the trigger Block I would Check for possibilities for more Mods. to increase accuracy at a further distance to target. Any Movement in Any gun while shooting/ pulling the Trigger, will pull the Point of Impact off Target, thus throwing off accuracy, 1. Reduce trigger pull weight by changing to a Light trigger spring, I am Not sure how stiff the oem trigger spring is. This may Not be needed. 2. smooth the Sear and Trigger contact points with some Very Fine sandpaper to polish this contact area. 3. add a Adjusting screw behind the trigger arm (this would reduce trigger pull length But I see the the posts for the Safety and Trigger would No longer Line up properly if adjusted, this may be a problem) at the rear of the trigger housing drill and tap for a 4-40 Allen screw so that this is adjustable to your liking to remove the Trigger travel, or trigger pull length, be cautious here as you dont want a Hair trigger just a Less pull length to the point of a Great Trigger release point that is expected. These three things will make a Much more accurate shot of the Cobra Adder, If you have a Long trigger pull length or a Heavy trigger pull weight due to a heavy trigger spring, or a Gritty or rough trigger pull due to a stamped steel edge of the Steel trigger and sear being Rough and Not Polished Smooth, these all can throw Off Accuracy. I Like to check for all these issues on Airguns By doing a trigger Pull test Several dozen times. I make sure the gun is Empty NOT loaded. Dont cock the gun, just pull the trigger several times, maybe latch the trigger, then pull the trigger, DO NOT DRY FIRE, Do NOT Cock The Crossbow!!! and watch what would Happen to what would be the Barrel End or Rail End to see if it Rises and sinks or any MOVEMENT of gun, during several Trigger Pull Tests, if you have to overcome any of the trigger spring weight or trigger pull length, or a rough sear contact, and pulling the trigger makes the X-bow's end, Move up or down during the Trigger Pull that will Throw off the SHOT accuracy. Pulling the Trigger should NOT move the Guns at all and throw off accuracy at all, if it does then the trigger needs work. This is a Job for when the Warranty expires. Movement of gun while pulling the trigger would be much More noticeable when taking free standing shots, while pulling the trigger. I check for this on all my Airguns, as I am after as Much accuracy as possible, and the Best accuracy Possible at the furthest distance to target. Humm what about adding a "Under the Bolt RAIL" of both sides, an attachment that has two alum. Square Tube for light weight, that slides either backward and forward out of the way, to get a cheek weld and a Short shoulder support, leave it forward out of the way pull it back into operation.
I have the adder 130lb crossbow its awesome but I don't have the equipment to make it 180lb. Hope joerg can bring out 180lb weapon I'll buy it straight away :))
@joergsprave Excellent informative video on the mods to help improve the Adder! I will find the manual safety and reinforced lever mods immediately useful for my Xbow. Similarly to what a few others have been asking, I was wondering about any updates on the 150lb throwing arm that was briefly mentioned earlier this year. I do think this would be a much more reliable option for those of us who aren't very experienced in weapon crafting and don't want to shatter the throwing arm and other possible mechanical failures in our xbow.
Suppose you had a block of wood or something similar with a hole drilled through the centre and at each end of the block a deep groove sawed so that if you insert an arrow in one end with the vanes slotting into the groove of the block then insert the broad head into the other end of the block so that the arrow head lines up with the vanes of the arrow. Would that make it easier to align the arrow to the tip? Does this make sense?
Such Innovation, Nothing else even comes close to the Cobra Adder!!! Great additions, I would Love to see a Sniper type Bench Rest Bipod shooting. at 50 yards, 75 yards, and 100 yards with this setup. definitely need a 3-9x40 Mil-Dot scope with Adjustable Objective, for those distances. My thought For a More tactical Version is to use a EXPANDABLE Gun Rest that attaches to the Front Lower Rail, they are used for a Standing Shot the expandable Post goes from the Bottom rail to the ground while standing to support the gun through the shot. Humm maybe a different attachment Point due to the Cocking of the Cobra Adder.
Hi Joerg, long time fan and creator. I just had an idea that you might like. Well more for those fans who want an actual magazine. Could you make the instant legolas in two pieces? The rear piece with the trigger assembly attached the crossbow, but then the rest of it, say from an inch in front of the release, removable and instantly replaceable with a fully loaded one? I just pictured cutting it into two pieces and making the magazine part clip in and out. Then you could have different sizes and different bolts ready to go. Thanks for all your awesome contraptions. You are one of the great creators of our time and it is a pleasure to watch you.
I had to pause as soon as you said file in some grooves into the limbs. Not sure but that seems like a really bad idea. When you Nick your bow limbs that adds a point where stress is focused. Just mark the sides of the limb with a paint marker.
I just ordered one and I’m wishing that I had gotten the new magazine. I didn’t because I figured 2 more shots wasn’t worth the money. But now I’m realizing it probably could be modified for 18 shots.
It would be nice to have all these upgrades optional from the factory. Not including the safety, that should stay automatic but the rest of what you have done, they would be perfect upgrades (at a cost of course) from the factory.
I love this! Please do more videos like it! Why not just make arrows out of those big nails? How about making really heavy and hard arrows and see if you can penetrate concrete?
Do a video about cheap slingshots on ebay! It take's a year for a kid to afford your slingshots so do a video for beginners that just wanna try it out at a cheap price
Love the Adder and would definitely buy one if it was 150 draw weight. In North Carolina all crossbows must have a minimum of 150 lbs. Please make a crossbow legal in my state.
The Vaping Sportsman No brainer, no disrespect. Order the kit with two 90lb limbs.Follow the procedure exactingly in this video and badda bing badda boom badda bam....wadda ya got?! A Hog Nailer!
@@ewhyte8059 I get exactly what your saying , but I already own a Barnett crossbow with cams and a self cocking device. With that said , I would rather it come stock with the appropriate draw weight without modifying it myself. Thanks
I don't mind waiting until warrany expiration to start modding. After all, need to familiarize with the stock equipment to know how its operations feel like, including its bolts, though purpose bolt crafting and fletching is a necessary survival skill.
The Mods I think we're worthwhile was 1.buying Dyneema string 2. Buying the V2 Magazine ..... 3. Tightening up the sloppy Stock Might convert it to manual Safty too !!! Thanks and bye .....bye 😅
Jorg, an idea for your next version of this weapon, put the mag underneath, so the bolts are fed from below. Less of a limit on the size of the mag and it won't get in the way of your sights. Just an idea from another engineer. Love the videos.
How would it be cocked?. It also has to withstand all the energy from being fired. An arrow sized hole in your crossbows frame is going to be a liability. Finally gravity fed mags are more reliable.
@@parallelsandtangents938 370 fps is very optimistic. I'm thinking 300-310 fps for the 180 lb variant using the original bolts, which is not recommended as they will be too light. The bolts should be increased in weight in direct proportion to the draw weight, thus keeping the speed roughly the same at 270 fps.
Greetings from Canada, I love your channel but I also have kids that love to watch content like this, I guess what I am getting at is that it disturbed me a little that you didn't use your vice or any other PPE when you cut the nail with your grinder. I can tell you that a grinder makes a very nasty dirty wound and I lost the use of my hand for over a month just by being careless for a moment.
@JoergSprave We need to get Steambow to make the regular bolts along with their broadheads. The quality of the Steambow bolts over the standard bolts is marked and substantial. I fired all 5 of the (blue vane) bolts that came with my Adder into the best quality crossbow target I could find (supposed to handle 450fps) and I immediately wrecked every single one of them! Firing all 5 of the (green vane) Steambow broadhead bolts (multiple times each, repeatedly) into the same target has yet to damage them in the least. They are all literally still good as new! If you could help to make this happen that would be amazing... Thank you for all you do. Your inventions have literally changed the world!
it's either what you just mentionned or the broadhead energy repartition is better on impact because of the bigger head which prevents the bolt from breaking pre-maturely. I have no experience with the orange aftermarket bolts though but I've heard they were tougher and cheaper (after some adjustments).
I have a Cobra RX already and feel it should be made clear that the 5 or 7 shot magazines will NOT fit it directly out of the box even though it appears to be the same crossbow. I've not ordered a magazine yet because I'm looking at how to go about it. The crossbows are essentially the same but with one fairly major difference which is the that the rear rail where the sight sits on the Cobra is part of the sling attachment loop and the grip itself. They're all one piece, so in order to get these magazines to fit I believe you'd have to get a rear section from an Adder or cut the existing rail off the Cobra. It doesn't look like a difficult job and nor would it affect the structural integrity of the whole crossbow but I don't think it can be done any other way because I've yet to find a conversion kit or a loose rear assembly from the Adder itself.
I just watched an entire video about how to modify a crossbow that I don't have

Me too, fingers crossed.
Great tips! I realized most of them! I love the double stacked magazine so and I need also to build this heavier bolts!
Definitely the second best “Black Adder” I have ever seen. Now I await the “Baldric” edition. I bet you have many cunning plans on what that could be.
Superb guide Jörg, thanks!
I don't even own a crossbow lol, but still watched. Love your vids! Maybe I'll pick one up some day...
Sir, I often watch yours slingshot Channel and I liked so much this Channel thanks and when you laugh ha ha ha
You selling the 180lb modded version then?
I hope they start manufacturing a 180ib drawstring bow as a single package along with heavier bolts designed for it, I reckon they'd sell well.
Can in just say i like watching you work.. and i also appreciate you slowing down to explain what you're doing...🤣😋👍
You should dip the cut ends with resin/epoxy to prevent the limb from splitting
Would that have an effect on the limbs moving separately as they are bent to full draw🤔
Crusader approved

@@Altair00rion yep. Also make sure she has snackos too.
I had to pause as soon as you said file in some grooves into the limbs. Not sure but that seems like a really bad idea. When you Nick your bow limbs that adds a point where stress is focused. Just mark the sides of the limb with a paint marker.
Juan johnson I have to agree with that logic. It’s tempting fate.
A new model with every plastic peaces replaced by aluminium would be great!
That are you can have it all replaced by steel :)
Yes, an aluminum one with higher power
I like the lateral play elimination mod. I hope the OEM has taken notes.
12:12 Jöerg, I recommend switching to decaf.
Love your channel.
Thanks
This version is great too who would of thunk it
I don't mind waiting until warrany expiration to start modding. After all, need to familiarize with the stock equipment to know how its operations feel like, including its bolts, though purpose bolt crafting and fletching is a necessary survival skill.
I am going to need to get more ripped and buff for the upgrades.
Mein lieber Gott, das ist ja unheimlich geil!
The Mods I think we're worthwhile was 1.buying Dyneema string
2. Buying the V2 Magazine .....
3. Tightening up the sloppy Stock
Might convert it to manual Safty too !!!
You should sell the bolts and arms pre-made i would buy it
I`m just waiting for Joerg to shoot this up graded Adder through the chronograph, how much faster are the bolts
For the 180 lb draw and by my rough calculations the fps is bumped up from 270 to 370 using the standard bolts.
It doesn't look like a difficult job and nor would it affect the structural integrity of the whole crossbow but I don't think it can be done any other way because I've yet to find a conversion kit or a loose rear assembly from the Adder itself.
ur hand looks better thats good bro love from australia
Yes, one more week and the docs will pull the stitches.
